Meet The Band Kapena, considered to be one of Hawaii’s premier island bands has more than 20 Island Music CD’s to their credit. Although the band has been through some changes, its founding member, Kelly Boy De Lima is still the band leader. Kapena continues to be an institution that embraces what islanders fell in love with when fans first heard the unique sound of their “electrifying” Kapena music. In the early 2000’s, Kelly Boy introduced Hawaii to the next generation of Kapena, his three children—Kapena, Kalena and Lilo. With the next generation came a new, fresh Kapena sound. Kelly Boy’s three children have gained success of their own, writing new original music and being nominated and winning multiple Na Hoku Hanohano awards. This new Kapena band offers a diverse new package for the old diehard Kapena fans as well as a new generation of Kapena fans.

Kelly Boy has been bringing that feel good island music to the world for over 30 years! His genuine personality, captivating stage presence and timeless music has made him one of the hardest working musicians in the business.
Kapena DeLima has been a member of the group Kapena for over 15 years. He began as the group’s keyboardist at only 11 years old and is now the drummer and musical director. In 2013, Kapena won his first Na Hoku Hanohano award for “Engineer of the Year”. The following year, Kapena took home his second Na Hoku Hanohano award for “Contemporary Album of the Year” for his first solo CD titled “Cast Your Cares”.
Leolani “Lilo” DeLima has been with the group Kapena since 2009. In the past few years, she has become well known as one of the only regular gigging female bassists in Hawaii. Lilo began playing bass in 2006 when her dad, Kelly Boy DeLima, pushed her to start playing duo with him in Waikiki. Lilo has gained success of her own as a songwriter, as well. Her first single, titled “I Am A Queen” got her a Na Hoku Hanohano award nomination.
Kalenaku DeLima has been the keyboardist and vocalist in the group Kapena since 2006. She has held the lead female vocalist role in the “Aulani Starlit Hui” since the opening of the hotel in 2011. Kalena grew up singing Hawaiian Music and playing ukulele with her father in Waikiki. She released her first Island Reggae single entitled, “Hideaway” in 2010 and with that release she earned her first Na Hoku Hanohano award nomination.

All about Hospice
T
he Board of Directors, staff and volunteers of Kaua‘i Hospice would like to extend a warm mahalo for your support of the 27th Annual Concert in the Sky! Founded in 1983 by a small group of dedicated and passionate volunteers, Kaua‘i Hospice has developed into a professionally staffed, Medicare and Medicaid certified organization with a supportive cadre of 80 specially trained program volunteers and hundreds of general community volunteers. There is a fundamental belief that hospice is not about how you die, it’s about how you live. Kaua‘i Hospice is the only hospice care provider on the Garden Island. Kaua‘i Hospice is respected, well-known and has a sterling reputation from
more than 30 years in our community, and we want to reframe the way we open people’s minds to who we are and what we do. When you select Kaua‘i Hospice, the focus of medical care shifts from searching for a cure to providing expert pain and symptom management. This special kind of care enables you to enjoy the best quality of life possible during this time. The earlier you call, the more we can do to help. Many people believe that hospice care is unavailable or inappropriate until the last days of a person’s life and that’s simply not true.
A great deal can be done many months earlier to improve quality of life. We can provide: • Expert pain and symptom management • Emotional and spiritual support • Assistance in organizing a patient’s personal affairs • Support for the caregiver Each Kaua‘i Hospice patient is under the care of a hospice team composed of professionals who can address not only physical but also emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and families. Kaua‘i Hospice provides care to anyone medically eligible who requests it, regardless of ability to pay.
We can do this thanks to the support and generosity of the Kaua‘i island community we serve. Contact Kaua‘i Hospice today at 245-7277 or visit our website at www. Kaua‘ihospice.org to learn more about our valuable programs. Kaua‘i Hospice is a proud participating agency of the Kaua‘i United Way.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA! We wish you and your ‘ohana a safe and happy Independence Day.
