Aloha! I am delighted to welcome everyone to the 2014 Kaua’i County Farm Bureau Fair! We all look forward to this annual event as it brings us together for fellowship, food, fun and learning. Over the years, the Farm Bureau has collaborated with many organizations to bring us this wonderful event. This year, we pay special tribute to one of its partners, the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources’ Cooperative Extension Service, in recognition of the milestone it has reached. It is just amazing to think that for 100 years, the Cooperative Extension has provided our community with science-based information and educational programs in agriculture, home economics, leadership development and youth programs such as 4H. The work of this organization also helps to protect our natural resources and support our efforts towards sustainability. Indeed, we are truly grateful for the numerous contributions the Cooperative Extension Service has made to our island community throughout the last century. I would also like to extend a big mahalo to the members of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau and all of the volunteers that work tirelessly year after year to ensure the success of the Farm Fair. This year’s theme “Back to Our Roots” honors our past and serves as a springboard for the future.
