Welcome to ‘The Klub’

I

t may not be Joe’s on the Green anymore, but the Klub at Kiahuna still offers the same great menu, friendly service and is home to one of the most

beautiful sunsets on the island. The Klub at Kiahuna opened its doors on July 1 after former owner of Joe’s on the Green, Joe Batteiger,

retired in June. His manager, Brooke Jacobsmeyer, decided to continue where Joe left off and added a bit of flare to the already successful

Kiahuna clubhouse. “We kept the same staff, kept all of Joe’s favorites on the menu, added specialty burgers and now we’re only serving local beef as well as local produce,” said Jacobsmeyer, owner of the Klub at Kiahuna. The Klub offers locally-sourced beef from Makaweli Meat Company on the Westside and farmto-table greens from Kailani Farms on the North Shore. “Originally, I’m from a really small town so It’s important for me to keep everything on island as much as possible,” she said. “The quality is a million times better than what I can get off-island. There’s just something about the freshness of the produce and the tenderness of the meat.” That farm-to-table quality is on full display on

Always a local favorite, the Loco Moco is made with a half pound of Makaweli beef, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, onions, brown gravy and two eggs. Both are $13.95. If you’re in the mood for lunch and in the mood for a burger, The Big Ronald, $18, just might be enough (and more) for your hunger. The half pound Makaweli beef burger is grilled and topped with onion rings, mushrooms, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado and served with chipotle aioli, barbecue and teriyaki sauces. Live entertainment runs everyday — starting from 5:30 through 8 p.m — with local music performed by Kalani Kaiminaauao, Uncle Kirby and Michelle Walker on Friday nights. The newest addition is dinner, which is served from 5 to 8:30 p.m. “Before when it was Joe’s on the Green, they just did a light fare menu that ran until 7 p.m.,” Jacobsmeyer said. The New York Strip Steak, $27, is a full pound strip of

Makaweli beef with a shallot butter and served with fresh veggies and your choice of baked potato or rice. Also worth trying is the fresh fish entree (market price) that’s prepared from locally-caught fish that is grilled and served with veggies and rice or baked potato. If you’re looking for fresh greens, the Klub offers a House Salad that comes with Kailani Farms mixed greens red onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded carrots and your choice of dressing. Located at the Kiahuna Golf Club, the Klub at Kiahuna is open daily from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. It may not have the same name, but the Klub has the same great taste as its predecessor. “The service is going to be spectacular, the view is gorgeous,” Jacobsmeyer said. “My employees serve nothing but aloha when anyone comes here. We want to make sure everyone has a good time.”

of Kauai, all are invited to join this organization that has been around for more than 50 years. It’s not necessary to audition. All are welcome who enjoy singing and are willing to attend Monday evening rehearsals from 7:30 to 9:30pm. Directed by Lois Ricciardi and accompanied by Virginia Shepherd, music consists of a range of great holiday music — “some familiar with new arrangements, some with exciting rhythms, some beautiful and inspiring, and some quite funny!” Membership dues for the season

are $30 and includes use of music. Scholarships are available for students age 25 and younger. It’s considered a a great way for students to enjoy more musical experience. Kauai Chorale, which combines about 80 voices into one beautiful sound, is preparing for two concerts that always draw big crowds and are a must-see for many during the holidays. Concert dates are Saturday, Dec. 17, KCC Performing Arts Theater at 7:30 p.m and Sunday, Dec. 18, St. Regis Grand Ballroom at 5 p.m. So if you have the desire to sing, to be part of a group that loves to sing, Kauai Chorale is perfect for you.
