LAUGHING SO MUCH IS ILLOGICAL CYNTHIA & ED JUSTUS SPECIAL TO TGIFR!DAY

“S

tar Trek - Fun with Kirk and Spock – A Parody” by Robb Pearlman, is 64 pages of pure laughs. For all you original series Star Trek fans, geeks, or those who have just laughed at it, this book is for you (and your friends)! We love Star Trek! Yep, we’re geeks, we own a bookstore, whadya expect?! And if you are like us, we love all of the hokey qualities of the show, too, and this book gladly lampoons them. Using the primer language format (including the same illustration style and color) as the children’s series

“Dick and Jane” makes this book hilarious from the very first page! This book boldly goes where no Star Trek book has gone before! The book references numerous episodes, lovingly poking fun at the series, its characters, and the many dubious situations they find themselves in. Join Kirk, Spock and the rest of the crew as they are facing the Gorn, encountering Khan, fumbling with Tribbles, or visiting with Space Lincoln. “See the Enterprise. See the Enterprise go boldly. Go go go, Enterprise! Go boldly!” “See Kirk fight. Fight, Kirk, fight!” “Uhuru has one Tribble. Now she has many Tribbles!” “See Spock. See Spock push down his feelings. Down, down, down!” “See Sulu’s sword. Sulu’s sword is sharp!” “See Khan wake up. Khan is cranky!” This book is not only fun but it can be used as

film previews These are some upcoming films being released this week in theaters: Z San Andreas - Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’s Brad Peyton steps into disaster movie territory with this 3D film surrounding an earthquake that hits the West Coast. Rated PG-13. Z Aloha - Bradley Cooper stars as a defense worker who teams up with a pilot (Emma Stone) to stop a sat-

ellite launch in this romantic comedy from Cameron Crowe. Rated PG-13. Z Survivor - After being mysteriously framed for a terrorist bombing, a Foreign Service Officer must evade government capture and death by a ruthless assassin in order to stop the real perpetrators’ master-and much deadlier-plan. Rated PG-13. ••• Source: Rotten Tomatoes

a real primer for your kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews starting them off right, through the world of Star Trek! As soon as folks walk into our bookstore and see this book, they either laugh right away, or they break out into a big smile; in

either case, they have to buy it, either for themselves or a “Trekkie” friend. Of course, we have one for ourselves. ••• Ed and Cynthia Justus are owners of The Bookstore in Hanapepe.

‘LOVE LIFE’ ON JUNE 6

P

ositivity is key at the upcoming Love Life event. And whether that upbeat expression is displayed in hip hop, hula or swing, dancing is a stylish way to spread those positive vibes. “Everyone really walks away feeling inspired in a positive way, they’re stoked to be exposed to cool things happening,” said Lila Metzger, Love Life Creative Festival & Allstyles Dance festival director. The seventh annual event isn’t just for dancers. The event launched in 2009 as a way to inject a positive, drug-free and suicide-free culture in Hawaii by inspiring a love for life through creative expressions such as dance, music, visual art, fashion and food. Plenty of painters and

other artists will be at the June 6 showcase at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center, as will entertainers, a fashion show, vendors, and food trucks. Special guests include Style Element Crew B-boys Remind, Crumb, Artson’s Maui’s all female Ambersand Dance Co., and KUGA performers. A hip-hop arena will be the site where 3x3 dance battles take place as will a final Monarchy 1x1 Invitational B-Boy battle. Tickets are $10 in advance and are $15 at the door. Children age two and under get in for free. The main festival starts at 4 outside runs until 9:30 p.m. All-styles dance showcases in the main theater will be at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Info: Kuga808.com
