THIS IS HOW SHE GOT HERE present shows annually to the public as fundraising opportunities for the center. Most recently, Andriello performed a revival of her original, one-woman show, “Tomatoes on a Windowsill,” depicting Andriello’s life of growing up in an Italian-American home with a strict Italian father, zany relatives and relations, opera, and pasta. “Our mission in life has always been to elevate consciousness and inspire,” said Feren. As the talented couple pursued their theatrical careers, they also studied the works of the great mystics and spiritual teachers of New Thought.

“We realized that we could combine our talents — singing, acting, writing, teaching, directing and producing with our spirituality. When the ministerial path called us to Kauai six years ago, we followed it,” Andriello said. “This show is in celebration of CSL’s sixth year on Kauai.” The cabaret’s live accompaniment and musical direction will be provided by pianist Carrie Fox. “How I Came to Me …” will be performed two times, Thursday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Aug. 30. Prior to the performance, between 6 p.m. and 7:15, audience members will enjoy a pupu buffet and drinks, which are included in the ticket price. Tickets are $45 and must be purchased in advance. Seating is limited. Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 7:30 both nights. CSL Kauai is at 4-1579 Kuhio Highway in the East Kauai Professional Building, Suite 101. For tickets or more information visit www.cslkauai. org or call 431-1700.

Sanson said. “I can’t wait to see what the coming year will have in store for me.” The Aug. 24 event, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., is a fundraiser for her tuition, and will also feature performances from dancers from the Kilauea Studio. Food trucks, a silent auction and drinks will be available. Tickets are available at Healthy Hut, Kilauea Studio and at the door. Cost

is $15 for adults, $10 for keiki ages 12 and under. “I’m really looking forward to performing at the fundraiser at Anaina Hou. I have faith that we will be able to raise enough money so that I can go back to Kirov next year,” Sanson said. ••• Jessica Else, staff writer, can be reached at 2450452 or jelse@thegardenisland.com.-

It was created and will be performed by the Rev. Rita Andriello, and produced and directed by Patrick Feren, Andriello’s co-spiritual director of CSL Kauai. “My goal is to inspire us all to be authentic, embrace and forgive our past, and to be present to all the possibilities in the now moment.” said Andriello, a professionally trained actress and singer with more than 30 years of performance experience. “I’ve had a deep relationship with musical theater since I was 8 years old. Still, I managed to miss both. Lani didn’t even flinch when I said we would run to the ATM and get cash, as she pointed us in the direction of the liquor store. That’s the kind of trust you don’t want to disappoint. After changing my mind about pancakes to avoid being reprimanded again, I went with Over the Falls, which is custard French toast, an old favorite, topped with pineapple, coconut and whipped cream, and made with Portuguese sweet bread. It was definitely a big step-up from pancakes, and worth the $11. Original and outstanding. Good thing Lani made it clear I should not order pancakes. Over

the Falls is a new favorite. My wife went with the Hang Ten Special, and opted for two scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns. For $12, it covered the basics of what you would expect when we’re talking eggs, bacon and browns. The Kings Reef Omelet, at $13, and the Hanalei Quesadilla, $12, are popular for good reasons, and you’ll likely please Lani when you order them. This is not a menu overloaded with so many selections you can’t make up your mind. After some three decades of serving breakfast, they have a system, and it works at Wake Up Cafe. They

You’ll find it just off Kuhio Highway, just down from Tahiti Nui. Remember, no lunch or dinner here. We’re talking breakfast only. In case you were wondering, the pancakes are $8. he 12-year-old protagonists of “Good Boys” have mastered the use of lingo like “lit” and “burn,” but they are foggier on just exactly what a tampon is and swear that a nymphomaniac is someone who has sex on land and on sea. They are tantalizingly close to young adulthood and yet tragically far away. “Good Boys” (three stars out of four) mines that gulf between childhood and adolescence like few films have before. To be fair, few have even tried quite like this. “Good Boys” is rated R which means, as its marketing has playfully highlighted, that its young stars — Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. NFL TEAMING WITH JAY-Z ON ENTERTAINMENT, SOCIAL ACTIVISM BARRY WILNER AP PRO FOOTBALL WRITER

The league not only will use Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to consult on its entertainment presentations, including the Super Bowl halftime show, but will work with the rapper and entrepreneur’s company to “strengthen community through music and the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative.” Inspire Change was created by the league after an agreement with a coalition of players who demonstrated during the national anthem to protest social and racial injustice in this country.
