ANNE-MARIE BUTLIN

Tuesday 4 July
Please join us for a special evening of cocktails created by the Head Cocktail Maker of Rules Restaurant, London, Brian Silva.

NEW WORK
My flower paintings attempt to capture the quiet transitory moments which make any planted space such an oasis of calm. Sometimes I want to convey the abundance of nature by creating a tapestry of marks and colour; and at other times I want the image to be simpler, emphasizing the unique shapes and elegant structures of a plant by blocking out the background.
With our current climate concerns, garden design is increasingly naturalistic in its use of plants, and I try to reflect this in my paintings, drawing inspiration from my own small space but also visits to gardens like Chelsea Physic Garden, Oxford Botanic Garden, Great Dixter and Sissinghurst. More recently I’ve been really drawn to wildflowers both in urban spaces and the countryside.
