Here & ThereAgain Again Here & There
Here & There Again 9 - 26 OCTOBER 2018 From the industrial docks to the coastal beauty of the Welsh coast, Gareth Parry creates a collection of stunning paintings for his upcoming exhibition at Thackeray Gallery, Kensington, London, ‘Here and There Again’, 9 - 26 October 2018. His seascapes, industrial landscapes and interior still lives, whilst inspired by his local environment of Wales, are more about weather and the natural elements than the place alone. Parry creates extraordinary energy, manipulating the atmosphere of each painting, by the application of thick impasto paint. His work is full of colourful textures, creating paintings that possess great freedom and expression. Gareth Parry has been with Thackeray Gallery for 15 years. He has exhibited over many years in both London and Wales, and his work can be found in both Public and Private Collections both in the UK and Worldwide.

BIOGRAPHY Gareth Parry was born in the slate quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales, in 1951. After leaving school he went on to study at the Manchester College of Art in the late 1960’s. Following that, he worked at a local mine for two years before starting to paint once again, embracing all that came his way, illustrating or undertaking commissions as varied as landscapes, portraits and still lifes. For many years he painted en plein air only: “the best training I could ever have had”, before reverting to studio work based on sketches and memory, which he thinks of “as the companion of observation”. His landscapes and seascapes, whilst inspired by his local environment of Wales, are more about weather and the natural elements than the place alone. He works predominantly with a palette knife, creating extra-ordinary energy and light with the paint. He lets the paint ‘do the work’, creating paintings with great freedom and expression. Gareth has exhibited over many years in both London and Wales, and his work can now be found in both Public and Private Collections and has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 2007.
