GORDON BRYCE RSA RSW (b.1943) Gordon Bryce was born in Edinburgh. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art, where Sir Robin Philipson was Head of Art and Sir Williams Gillies was Principal. He moved to Aberdeen, where he was appointed as a lecturer in printmaking at Gray’s School of Art in 1968. He then became Head of Fine Art from 1986 to 1995, before devoting himself full time to his painting. Following in the Scottish Colourist tradition, Gordon has developed an outstanding reputation for his landscapes and still lifes. He has held exhibitions worldwide, and has achieved multiple awards over the years. Gordon has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 1986 and his work can be found in public collections worldwide.
JOANNA CARRINGTON (1931-2003) Joanna Carrington was born in Hampstead, London and the niece of Dora Carrington (Bloomsbury Group). In 1948 she went to Paris, studying under Fernand Leger and from 1949-1952, she attended Central St Martins, London where her tutors were Keith Vaughan, William Roberts and Louis Le Brocquy. Whilst there, she was awarded the Queens scholarship. From the 1980’s, exhibitions in London and France became regular events and her work keenly sought after by both public and private collectors. Her last solo exhibition was held at Thackeray Gallery in 1999 and the Gallery continues to work exclusively with her Estate as well as dealing privately in her work.
VANESSA GARDINER (b.1960) Vanessa Gardiner was born in Oxford. After completing a Foundation Course at Oxford Polytechnic in 1978-1979, she moved to London to study BA Hons in Fine Art at Central School of Art & Design. Her style of painting is very distinctive, inspired by the cliff edges and the sea, linear and architectural, capturing the enduring elements of the land and sea. Vanessa has held solo exhibitions since 1991, in London, Exeter, Bournemouth, Gloucestershire, Dorset, Bath and Greece. Her work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show for the last four years and her work can be found in Private and Corporate Collections worldwide. Vanessa has been represented by Thackeray Gallery since 2013.
ANTHONY GARRATT (b.1979) Anthony Garratt was born in Sevenoaks, Kent. He studied at Chelsea College of Art and then Falmouth College. Having worked as a designer for a few years in London, he was then able to take up painting full time. He became Director of Jamaica Street Studios in Bristol where he was based for several years. In 2011, Anthony was featured in the Television Series, ‘Show Me The Monet’ and furthermore, in 2012, Anthony was invited to be one of twelve artists by the BBC to paint the Diamond Jubilee River Pageant. He has exhibited work both publically and privately for over a decade now, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and impressive outdoor installations Four Tresco, and Four Angelsey. Anthony has been represented by Thackeray Gallery since 2011.

IWAN GWYN PARRY RCA (b.1970) Iwan Gwyn Parry was born in Anglesey, Wales. He completed a BA Fine Art Degree at the Cardiff Institute from 1989 to 1992, where he achieved a First Class Honours. He then went on to undertake a Masters in painting at the Chelsea School of Art and Design from 1992 to 1993. Since 1994, Iwan has been a Fine Art Lecturer at Bangor College, which he continues to do today. His work can be found in many public collections, including the Contemporary Art Society of Wales and Anglesey County Council as well as many private collections in the UK and worldwide. Iwan Gwyn Parry has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 2009.
MICHAEL HONNOR (b.1944) Michael Honnor was born in Dartmoor, Devon. He left Devon to study English at Oxford University and then painting at Hornsey College followed by a year at Byam Shaw School of Art, London. In 1978, Michael returned to Dartmoor, basing himself on the edge of the Erme Valley. It was at this time his involvement with Dartington Hall began and he set up their renowned print workshop, where he remains Director of to this day. Michael has exhibited widely in the UK and his work is in many public, private and corporate collections worldwide. Michael has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 1988.
ELERI MILLS (b.1955) Eleri Mills was born in Wales and grew up on the family farm, developing her love and understanding of the ‘land’. In 1977, she went to Manchester Art School to study Art and Design. The time in Manchester gave her a new perspective and deeper understanding of the history of Wales, which clearly inspired her work from then on. Eleri’s work has been exhibited throughout Europe, the USA and Japan. In 2009, a 4-piece installation was exhibited at the National Assembly for Wales. In 2010, Eleri won the Creative Wales Ambassador Award by the Arts Council of Wales, which took her to New York for a Residency. Her work has been exhibited at Thackeray Gallery since 2000.
ALBERTO MORROCCO RSA RSW OBE (b. 1917-1998) Alberto Morrocco was born in Aberdeen to Italian Parents. At the remarkable age of 14, he attended Gray’s School of Art where he was taught by James Cowie and Robert Sivell. In 1950, Alberto was appointed Head of Painting at Duncan of Jordonstone College of Art, Dundee. During this time he started to explore colour in a serious way, he was most renowned for his depiction of Italian Life – clowns, beaches, figures and melon sellers becoming his ‘signature’ objects. He was awarded the San Vito Prize in Rome, 1959, Honourary Degrees from Aberdeen and Dundee Universities and in 1993 was awarded OBE for Services to the Arts. Alberto Morrocco exhibited with Thackeray Gallery bi-annually from 1970 until his death in 1998. The gallery continues to represent his work today.

LEWIS NOBLE (b. 1967) Lewis Noble was born in London. He has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996, with solo exhibitions around the UK since 1997. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us. His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface. Lewis has won the Vickers Art Award, amongst others, and his work can be found in both Public and Private Collections in the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and Asia.
ANN ORAM (b. 1956) Ann Oram was born in London. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art between 1976-1982. Ann became a part-time lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art between 1983 and 1985, and again in 1991 to 1993. She was elected to RSW in 1986. Following that, she was a visiting lecturer at the University of Northumbria in 1988. Ann has had solo exhibitions since 1985, throughout the UK and Europe. Awards Include: Carnegie Travelling Scholarship, Royal Scottish Academy Student Exhibition 1980; Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship to New York, 1981; Largo Award, Edinburgh College of Art, 1981; Andrew Grant Major Award, 1981 & 1982; May Marshall Brown Award (RSW), 1991; William Gillies Award (RSW), 1998.
GARETH PARRY RCA (b.1951) Gareth Parry was born in Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales. After leaving school he went on to study at Manchester College of Art in the late 1960’s. Following that, he worked at a local mine for two years before starting to paint once again, embracing all that came his way, illustrating, or undertaking commissions as varied as landscapes, portraits and still lifes. Gareth has exhibited over many years in both London and Wales and his work can be found in Public and Private collections. Gareth has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 2007.
MATTHEW SNOWDEN (b.1969) Matthew Snowden was born in Heswall, Merseyside in 1969. He studied at Withens Lane Art College in 1989 followed by Industrial Design (BA Hons) at Teesside University from 1990-93. He has had solo exhibitions from 1999 around the UK. Private and Corporate Collections include: Europe, USA, China, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, National Library of Wales, Williamson Art Gallery and Museum. Matthew has been represented by Thackeray Gallery since 2015.
ETHEL WALKER (b.1941) Ethel Walker studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1959-1964. She is a highly established Scottish Artist, famous for her interpretation of light and weather. Her work is collected all around the world. Ethel exhibits regularly in both London and Scotland and her work is in Private Collections Worldwide. Her awards include, The Anne Redpath Award, The Glasgow Herald Painting Competition, the Alva Computers Purchase Prize, The Whyte & Mackay Group Award, the Scottish Provident Award, Barclay Lenney Award and Mabel McKinlay Award. Ethel has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 1982. 36
