The EIC Chief Executive

The Chief Executive Welcome to the January edition of the Monthly News, and on behalf of all at the EIC, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year. As we start 2015, the year of the general election, we are beginning to see the political parties launch their respective manifestos and make statements relating to the energy sector. It will be interesting to see how the differing viewpoints play out in terms of investment into the sector and we will be watching this closely. The New Year also saw the results of the UK’s first ever capacity mechanism, resulting in a capacity contract being awarded to the Trafford CCGT power plant underpinning the project’s long term future. EDF’s West Burton and Cottam plants also secured a three-year capacity contract that includes money for refurbishment and upgrades. EDF Energy is planning to invest £600 million a year in its existing nuclear stations and last year announced that it expected to extend the life of Dungeness B by 10 years. EDF Energy will also be the first to build the next generation of new build power stations followed by Horizon Nuclear Power and NuGeneration. Six major companies will be updating EIC members on forthcoming plans and potential opportunities at the EIC Nuclear Showcase event, taking place on 10 February in Manchester. For the majority of our members involved in the oil and gas industry, the ever decreasing price of oil is at the top of the agenda. While to date we have not seen any operators cancel ongoing developments, new projects proposed especially those in the upstream sector will see certain delays in moving forward. It is more important than ever to now utilise your EIC membership to the full to identify those developments and markets that will represent continued opportunities for your company in the near future; utilise EICDataStream to keep track of the projects where work continues and maximise opportunities via the EIC events programme which covers both the home and export markets. The expectation from industry is that the Middle East and fields located offshore in shallow water regions will see continued investment on new developments, where fields can still be commercially viable at a price of between US$25 and US$40 per barrel of oil, so this could be an opportunity for your company to look at new markets in which to do business. A recent EIC event looked at the opportunities in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. This region will see significant investments in trans-national pipeline developments, as the countries look to secure gas from producers in the East. Pipeline developments along with proposed LNG regasification facilities will play a key role in diversifying Europe’s supply. These midstream developments will see investments upwards of US$22 billion and will provide significant opportunities. Opportunities do not just exist in the midstream sector. Offshore gas discoveries have been made in the frontier exploration region of the Black Sea, while the downstream sector will see estimated CAPEX of US$5 billion. Forthcoming events will focus on opportunities with Wood Group PSN (17 February) as BP have awarded Wood Group PSN a five-year EPC contract for six UKCS upstream assets and the onshore Forties Pipeline System facilities in Grangemouth. Shutdowns and turnarounds are another key area essential to maintain levels of production, while also reducing loss of revenue for the operator. ESSAR and Amec Foster Wheeler are speaking at the EIC’s Shutdowns and Turnarounds Showcase (21 January) to explore plant shutdown and turnaround processes and opportunities, and finally following the success of the Northern Region Contractors Showcase, the EIC is planning to link major contractors based in the Southern Region to EIC members on 11 March. London based procurement teams from the likes of Aker Solutions, Bechtel, Genesis and Petrofac will provide an update on future prospects and challenges they are facing and seek feedback to help shape their longer term activities with the supply chain community. Despite the current uncertainties and challenges, the demand for energy remains strong and the EIC is committed to delivering high-value market intelligence and market opportunities to our members. EIC Sector Analysis

Sector Analysis The UK’s nuclear past delivers opportunities for the future The New Year has started off with some big news for the industry when a consortium comprising of companies Amec Foster Wheeler, Areva and URS was stripped of its waste management contract six years into the 17 year agreement. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) then announced that it would be introducing new simplified management arrangements at the site. Transition to the new arrangements is expected to take place over the next 12-15 months. The nuclear decommissioning industry in the UK is now worth £3 billion a year, with £1.6 billion of this being spent in the supply chain supporting 3,500 companies. Waste management and decommissioning is therefore a strong and assured market within the UK. Decommissioning of all the Magnox reactors and subsequent advanced gascooled reactors (AGRs) is estimated to cost at least £70 billion and is scheduled to last into the next century. Decommissioning activity in the UK in 2014 resulted in the award of one of the largest UK government contracts ever put out to tender. The £4.2 billion contract awarded to Cavendish Fluor Partnership (CFP) by the NDA in September 2014 to become the new parent body organisation (PBO) for site license companies Magnox Limited and Research Sites Restoration Limited (RSRL), represents the scale of investment into the nuclear decommissioning industry in the UK. The 14 year contract will see the 10 Magnox sites and the Harwell and Winfrith research facilities delivered to an agreed and defined point for each, either interim end state or into care and maintenance. As part of the contract award, high importance has been placed on cost and schedule. Cavendish Fluor has made it clear that minimising costs is an integral part of its efforts, with more than £1.5 billion of savings expected as the partnership begins to introduce its decommissioning plans and takes all the sites through the final stages of their decades-long programme of work. Under the 14 year contract, a vast amount of work needs to be done. These works vary from reactor operations at Wylfa until it ceases operations in December 2015, to defueling plants such as that completed at Sizewell A in August 2014. It is unavoidable however that projects will yield unexpected problems and setbacks, an example being dealing with the fuel element debris at Bradwell. Nevertheless, Bradwell and Trawsfynydd, the ‘Lead & Learn’ sites, are due to enter care and maintenance stages in 2015 and 2016 respectively, 12 years earlier than planned. The rest of the Magnox sites will enter this stage by 2028. As the decommissioning programme enters these next stages, opportunities for UK supply chain businesses to win contracts to provide their goods and services for the sites are abundant. The decommissioning industry in the UK has relied upon the strength of relationships www.the-eic.com

between PBOs and SLCs and the supply chain with the innovations, technology and know-how that is available in the domestic market. The NDA has identified a clear plan to help develop a broad and sustainable supply chain and support greater opportunities within it, as ultimately, more than 95% of the annual expenditure by the NDA is on contracts for goods and services. A key part of the supply chain are small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The UK Government, PBOs and SLCs are committed to providing the SME community with greater access to the numerous procurements awarded across the sector. However, the nuclear sector in the UK has challenges to overcome to meet future targets and continue its role as a nuclear hotspot. Questions have been raised about the resilience and capacity of the supply chain in the UK and whether it can support a nuclear industry in resurgence, not only in decommissioning but in proposals for new-build by EDF at Hinkley and Sizewell, NuGen at Moorside and Horizon at Wylfa and Oldbury. Coming from a period of two decades with no newbuild nuclear plants, to a point where decommissioning activities are gathering pace, work to keep existing reactors running is ongoing and potential for the construction of five new nuclear power plants, there is unease about whether the domestic supply chain can keep up with the volume of goods and services required over the length of the projects. A proven track record especially regarding safety is a prerequisite to be able to win contracts from operators and large contractors, difficult for many small businesses who lack previous experience and could struggle to meet the high standards required in the industry. Following the absence of new nuclear projects, arguably the biggest problem the industry faces is a massive skills shortage. The award of the parent body organisation competition to Cavendish Fluor Partnership sets up a new era for the nuclear decommissioning industry in the UK. Though challenges within the sector are still prevalent, opportunities for supply chain companies in the future are hugely promising. SMEs are essential to strengthening and providing resilience in the sector, bringing new and innovative technologies to a market that has always been at the forefront of technological advancements. Where the nuclear decommissioning market in the UK will be in 14 years’ time when the contract with the Cavendish Fluor Partnership ends is hard to predict, but with work taking place across the nuclear sector in new-build, life extensions and decommissioning, there arguably has not been a better time to be involved in the nuclear industry in the UK. Many offshore oil and gas operators are seeking an alternative to limit switches for the control of surface Xmas tree valves, due chiefly to issues with reliability and functionality; limit switch technology can only provide valve status information in terms of fully opened or closed with no facility for continuous feedback as to actual valve position. An alternative approach is to infer the valve position by trending the pressure in the hydraulic lines. However, frequent transmitter blockages compromise accuracy and further errors are derived from inherent differentials between open and closed pressures. Incorrect valve position indication and control can lead to process failure, shutdown and, most importantly, can have significant negative implications for site safety. Equally, reliable, accurate, continuous measurement of valve position enables the monitoring of speed and uniformity of movement providing diagnostic insight as to the condition of the valves and hydraulic feeds. ABLE Instruments & Controls Ltd was approached by a major North Sea operator to design and implement a solution to the problem and, as a result, developed a universal valve position transmitter, the v-Trakka. The v-Trakka can be retrofitted to most types of surface Xmas tree valve and provides an accurate and repeatable analogue output which tracks the physical position of the valve. The 2-wire, EEx d loop powered transmitter delivers a compact, lightweight design and the robust 316 stainless steel cover renders the v-Trakka immune to the effects of the harsh offshore environment. Over time, the v-Trakka design evolved in response to operator feedback from observations while in use offshore: it was noted after several weeks of use that repeated opening and closing of certain valves, to which the v-Trakka had been fitted, caused the valve stem to

The consequent shaped flux field provides more reliable and precise switching of the reed-chain resistive ladder sensor. The stainless steel cylinder cover, which offers protection from physical damage and the frequent mud washing that takes place on the decks above the valve locations, has also undergone design revision. Rotork Midland has introduced SMART-LOC, a new high integrity modular concept for pneumatic actuator control assemblies. Constructed in 316L stainless steel, the SMART-LOC system is suitable for the control and sequencing of process valve actuators in oil and gas applications. Compared to traditional fabricated panel mounted assemblies SMART-LOC offers a lighter, stronger and more compact alternative, together with significant capital and operating cost savings. Complex, labour intensive arrangements using panels, pipes and additional fittings are eliminated and replaced with a fully assembled and tested interface block, ready to be fitted directly to the actuator. Delivering best in class flow characteristics, the units will interface with all types of pneumatic actuators.

Ejector solutions provider Transvac has announced the launch of a suite of online software for ejector sizing and screening. In a bid to make the technology more accessible to engineers across the oil the gas industry, separate programmes for gas and liquid driven ejectors have been released, including a new super-high compression range of liquid-jet ejectors, capable of gas compression ratios of up to 150:1. Peter Ainge, Marketing Manager, Transvac, said: “It has been fascinating to see how our clients are beginning to use the online tools. We often see clients logging in and playing with process conditions to see how an ejector will work for them – and it provides instant results, which is what everyone wants. It allows engineers to try out unlimited process scenarios without the need to engage our technical sales team until they are ready to do so.” Also known as jet-pumps or eductors, ejectors are typically selected for gas compression and liquid pumping duties, which are used in the industry for extending life of mature wells, enhanced gas-lift and flare gas recovery. Transvac’s ejector solutions can offer a valuable helping hand to ageing facilities, struggling with depleting reserves and changing conditions. With no moving parts and no maintenance requirements, ejectors are ideal for use offshore, subsea and in unmanned locations. Gary Short, Research & Development Director, Transvac, added: “We can move very quickly from concept, through to CFD modelling then on to full scale performance testing on our flow loops. Our new ejector performance curves can then be incorporated into our online software.” Visit: www.transvac.co.uk

Overseas Exhibitions

The bi-annual Brasil Offshore exhibition focuses on the importance Brazil will play in meeting increasing global energy demand. The exhibition brings together keypersonnel within engineering, operations and procurement providing a unique opportunity to suppliers of goods and services worldwide. Brasil Offshore is the third largest offshore exhibition in the world, considered one of the most relevant trade shows within the international offshore market, attracting visitors and exhibitors from 38 countries and covering all aspects of the Brazilian offshore industry. Brasil Offshore is the perfect platform for UK companies who are new to the market, those in the process of acquiring Brazilian companies, setting up manufacturing facilities, and those with fully fledged operations and experience in the market. Oil, Gas & Petrochemical Engineering Exhibition (OGA) 2-4 June 2015 Kuala Lumpur TAP funding £2,500 for eligible SMEs OGA 2013 attracted more than 29,000 visitors, with a sold out exhibition boasting 2,000 companies from 72 nations. The Government of Malaysia aims to increase its aggregate production capacity by 5% every year up to 2020 to meet domestic demand growth, while sustaining crude oil and LNG exports to overseas markets. Improved contract terms are on offer to encourage teams of operators and service companies willing to take on the challenge, as Malaysia looks to become the energy hub of Asia with plans to develop 100 marginal fields and conduct four offshore enhanced oil recovery projects. As Petronas ramps up its spending and the Government’s energy authority opens up new opportunities, Malaysia continues to grow as an attractive target for UK companies. Event Report Basra Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference 4-7 December 2014 At the request of UKTI and following on from the success of the 2013 event, the EIC organised and managed a small UK Pavilion for the 5th Basra Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference. While the event did not fully mirror the 2013 event in terms of space and take up, something that can be easily explained by the current political unrest that continues across Iraq as a whole, one could nevertheless see that the level of visitors both in terms of numbers and quality remained high. Two of our exhibitors, EIC members Goodwin Valves and Voith both reported that they had a series of excellent meetings with potential customers and were both extremely confident that the outcome from the show would be very successful. The next show has been scheduled for March 2016. Contact Mark Gamble: mark.gamble@the-eic.com

POWER-GEN Europe 2015 9-11 June 2015 Amsterdam TAP funding £1,500 for eligible SMEs The EIC will be organising and managing a UK Pavilion at POWER-GEN Europe for the first time this June. The European power system is changing notably to enable a low carbon economy and a fully functioning internal electricity market without impeding on security of supply for the 532 million European people served by the grid. With Europe being home to some of the largest utilities and project developers there appear to be distinct regional opportunities for operators that strive to either develop or acquire key assets despite the difficult economic environment. Furthermore global opportunities in the power sector are paramount with many countries investing in thermal plant seeking European expertise. EICDataStream is tracking 345 active projects and 270 future projects in the power sector including T&D (transmission and distribution) and energy storage. POWER-GEN Europe provides a wealth of opportunities for you to promote your products and services, raise your company’s brand awareness and connect with key industry decision makers under one roof. EIC Connect Oil & Gas 2014 hailed a success as the major global oil and gas operators announce a bright future for the UK supply chain to a record number of delegates Major operators and contractors joined over 900 delegates at EIC Connect Oil & Gas in Manchester for two days of conference sessions, supply chain briefings, a full exhibition and over 700 one-2-one supplier-buyer meetings.

the two days as delegates listened to Amec Foster Wheeler, Bechtel, Centrica, Kentz, Shell, SOCAR and Tengzichevroil explain what opportunities lay ahead and how interested each company is to work with the UK supply chain.

Keynote speaker, Lord Livingston, the UK Minister for Trade & Investment, opened the event with a speech highlighting the importance of the oil and gas industry, given the supply chain alone in the last 12 months is responsible for exports valued at £35 billion.

The exhibition, which this year saw over 70 UK companies promoting their products and services to a very interested audience saw a steady stream of delegates circulate throughout the two halls in search of networking and sales opportunities.

The session was supported by Matthias Bichsel, Executive Director, Shell and Robin Watson, CEO, Wood Group PSN who proceeded to outline their respective company’s expectations for the industry in the next 10 years and the outlook for UK companies. Both commented on the issue of tackling the increasing costs facing the industry and spoke optimistically about the future, whilst outlining the importance of having a strong domestic industry that supports innovation.

Sponsored by Hertel, attendees were invited to a Networking Hour during the afternoon of the first day of the show to further discuss business. An evening reception was also held at Cloud 23 in the Hilton Manchester Deansgate hotel, exclusively for speakers, sponsors and exhibitors to further network over drinks and canapés. Over 200 guests attended the reception which was sponsored by Siemens.

These themes were further developed throughout the conference programme as panellists from ConocoPhillips, Premier Oil, Shell (Prelude), Worley Parsons, SNC Lavalin, to name but a few, explored the challenges facing the major oil and gas operators, the emerging markets for growth and the opportunities coming up for the UK supply chain.

The latest EIC Insight Reports, which provide an overview and brief analysis of global contracting activity within a defined sector were brought into focus by the EIC’s team of oil and gas sector based analysts who were available throughout the two days to take enquiries and answer questions from delegates. The three reports on Upstream, Midstream and UK Shale Gas launched at EIC Connect are now available to EIC members and provide valuable insight into emerging opportunities and growth areas.

The upstream conference session, with speakers from ConocoPhillips, Premier Oil, global contractor SNC Lavalin and Decom North Sea, provided an optimistic outlook for the industry with heavy investment expected in both upstream and decommissioning activities in the foreseeable future – £470 million was spent on decommissioning in 2013, with £14.6 billion forecast to be spent between 2014 and 2023. The focus of the Midstream session was LNG liquefaction, for which global production capacity could rise by more than 400mtpa by 2025. Speakers from Interfax, WorleyParsons and Shell provided an overview of this sector and current developments, including Shell’s Prelude project – the largest FLNG project currently under construction.

As EIC Connect Oil & Gas wrapped up for another year, we are already looking ahead to next year. The EIC returns to Abu Dhabi in June for EIC Connect Middle East 2015, followed by a return trip to Manchester Central in November for EIC Connect Energy 2015, which will cover all aspects of power generation. To register your interest in either event simply visit: www.the-eic.com/eicconnect For additional information please contact: Charmaine Atkinson, National Events Co-ordinator Tel +44 (0)1642 379 975 Email charmaine.atkinson@the-eic.com

Export Showcase Emerging Europe Export Showcase Tuesday 20 January 2015 EIC Conference Suite, London The EIC is tracking 398 active and future projects across Eastern Europe (excluding Russia) with a combined estimated CAPEX of US$420 billion. Power projects dominate these figures, with 11 nuclear plant developments and expansions each worth over US$5 billion alone. The region’s midstream sector is the second most prominent with a series of pipelines planned with the strategic aim of enhancing Europe’s energy security. Despite comparably less investment and activity, the region’s upstream sector is newsworthy, with a series of shale exploration projects; Poland and Ukraine are set to be the region’s leading shale markets in terms of the number of potential projects as well as the domestic political support, existing infrastructure and beneficial upstream experience these two countries have to offer. While opportunities are vast the practicalities of doing business in the region vary greatly. Join the EIC and UKTI at this Eastern European Showcase for an overview of the region’s energy sector, details of where the main opportunities lie and the support available to companies looking to do business across Europe. Sector Showcase Shutdowns and Turnarounds Showcase Wednesday 21 January 2015 Leeds United Football Club, Leeds Owners of commercial facilities, manufacturing processes, and industrial plants view maintenance of their assets as key to their effective operation. While most routine inspection, repair, replacement and minor maintenance work can be done while the plant is in operation or online, there are times when a plant has to undergo a scheduled process outage for the major maintenance work, namely a shutdown. This is a crucial time where it is imperative that everything goes to plan. The aim of the event is to bring together owners of some of the major plant across the UK to highlight what is involved in the shutdown and turnaround process; to hear about some of the key challenges faced by these owners and how our members can help to solve them, along with identifying forthcoming work scheduled. Register your interest with Jennifer Hole.

This event will feature a panel of speakers who will provide an update about the nuclear industry as a whole. Representatives from both Sellafield and Magnox will talk about decommissioning, the role of the SLC’s and how suppliers should engage along with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority who will outline their priorities and plans for the future. The event will also cover nuclear new build with speakers from Horizon, Alstom, Jacobs and the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre identifying where progress has been made, the anticipated timescales, where opportunities lie and how the supply chain should engage to ensure that they can secure their place in the industry in the future. This showcase will be preceded by a brief evening reception the night before. It will be a fantastic networking opportunity which will set the scene for the Showcase. Acting as an ice breaker, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to meet with the speakers and other industry peers who have a focus on the nuclear industry in an informal setting. Managing Legal and Contractual Risk in the Middle East Tuesday 27 January 2015 Yas Island Rotana, Abu Dhabi

Office News

Let me start off by wishing all EIC member companies and colleagues located here in the Middle East a very happy and prosperous new year. The two largest events in our calendar were in November where we had ADIPEC once again exceeding all expectations in terms of exhibitors, conference delegates and visitors, hotly followed by our very own EIC Connect. Looking forward to this year, we have been fortunate to secure additional space for ADIPEC which is scheduled to take place on 9-12 November, so please make sure those dates are entered into your new diaries. Another date to note is 2 June which is the date chosen for our next edition of EIC Connect Middle East scheduled to take place at the St Regis, Sadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi. This year’s event promises to be even better in terms of engagement between the UK supply chain, regional national oil companies as well as international oil companies. We have gathered together a very prestigious advisory group to assist us in ensuring that we secure the content and programme to suit everybody’s wishes. Exhibition space is available so please go to the website for details: www.the-eic.com/EICConnect/MiddleEast From an office perspective, 2014 was concluded with a visit to the Basra Oil Show where we were able to host a small group on the UK National Pavilion and while Iraq continues to face its various challenges, the show proved that for the oil and gas sector especially, the market is extremely vibrant and offers numerous opportunities for those UK companies who can find ways to exploit them within the current environment. Later this month we have linked up with members Andrews Kurth to deliver a showcase on Managing Legal and Contractual Risk in the Middle East. The day will cover everything from available business models, employment and taxation through to agency agreements, registrations and business ethics. Meanwhile, our programme of training events moves on and once again, we would urge you to let us have any ideas that you may have on topics and subjects that we could offer. Having successfully delivered these in the UK to our membership, we are keen to replicate this achievement here but this can only be made possible with input from you, our members. Finally, we cannot finish without mentioning our Golf Day which will be taking place next month on 19 February. Once again, we will have a full house of 104 golfers all competing for the EIC Middle East trophy which was won last year by Lloyds Register who we are pleased to say will be defending their title. While the playing capacity is full, there are still a number of sponsorship opportunities available plus places for the evening prize giving and raffle can also be secured. For further details, please contact Julie and Helen at the office. Terry Willis, Director, Middle East, Africa & CIS Contact: terry.willis@the-eic.com

Regional Comment

Iranian stalemate continues When President Hassan Rohani spoke on Iranian state television on 24 November, he did not deliver the momentous news that many had been hoping for. There was no nuclear deal with America, and therefore no lifting of debilitating economic sanctions. The deadline for an accord (the second this year) passed with only an agreement that Iran and the so-called P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) would keep talking. They set a new target to reach an outline political agreement by 1 March 2015 and a detailed deal by 30 June. The nuclear programme has become an almost solitary symbol of national pride for the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with much of the country’s ruling elite, though not necessarily for the wider population, whose pockets are hurting. Thus far, Mr Khamenei has given unenthusiastic support to the talks and, by extension, the prospect of rapprochement with America. He previously set down red lines that made agreement difficult and soon after the extension was announced, he declared that the world’s colonial powers had failed to bring Iran ‘to its knees’. The extension keeps Iran’s nuclear programme frozen. Under an interim deal, its centrifuges keep spinning but the stock of fissile material has been diluted from 20% enriched uranium to 5% – pushing back the breakout capacity to make atomic weapons (though Iran denies any such intention) – in exchange for limited relief from sanctions. US officials reckon time is on their side, as sanctions and falling oil prices continue to put pressure on Iran.

Cambodia prepares to go all out on licensing front Cambodia is planning to open an international bidding round early in 2015 that will include offshore and onshore blocks. The government hopes this will attract some industry heavy hitters although many players are focusing on Myanmar. Cambodia has six offshore blocks in its territorial waters but only one, Block A, is currently seeing much action, due to the country’s low oil and gas activity. KrisEnergy formally took control of Block A from Chevron last year. Alstom scoops 600MW hydro contract Alstom has won a contract worth US$67 million to supply three 200MW units including pump turbines, motor generators and balance of plant as well as handling the design, delivery and installation and supervision of the project to the pump storage hydro station in Hainan Province, China. One of the goals for the company is to increase production from aging fields by means of Baker Hughes’ new artificial lift technology. Because the company will become a dominant player, the merger will require approval from the Department of Justice’s antitrust regulators.

If your company is interested in South America, there are several opportunities in 2015 to visit the region with a trade delegation or exhibition. The EIC, in partnership with UKTI, has launched the overseas delegation focusing on Brazil Construction & Maintenance of Offshore Assets. This delegation will coincide with the fourth UK-Brazil Energy Showcase to be held in Rio on 10 March. Previously this event has been a remarkable success as it succeeds in gathering key contacts from the Brazilian industry. The following week, from 16-20 March 2015, we will be heading to Colombia, to link UK companies to oil and gas opportunities in Bogotá and Cartagena. More details can be found on the EIC website. Looking back at 2014, EIC Rio increased the training programme with 17 courses and trained more than 240 people. This initiative has been well received by members and the local industry. In a difficult year for the Brazilian industry, we are proud to have put together five Business Presentations in Rio gathering 240 attendees. We will be focused on improving our programme in 2015. Since the office layout has been refurbished, we would love to receive your visit and comments. The year ended in Rio with a brilliant Business Presentation: Opportunities with Odebrecht Oil & Gas (pictured above). Business Director, Mr Aloysio de Mello, shared the history of the company, its robust portfolio with recent new contracts and very inspiring scenarios pointing out opportunities in Brazil, Mexico and Angola. The presentation was followed by our now traditional high profile year-end cocktail that gathered 71 members. If you need support in taking the next step into the South American market, please feel free to contact us. Clarisse Rocha, Head of Americas Contact: clarisse.rocha@the-eic.com

Petrobras business plan to be released in Q2 The Brazilian state-run oil company is only expected to release its business plan for 2015-2019 in the second quarter. CEO Maria das Graças Foster has indicated that there are too many uncertainties in the market which have direct influence on the company’s investment forecast, such as exchange variations, low hydrocarbons demand and the corruption probe which greatly tarnished the company’s image. Petrobras’ US$220.6 billion investment plan for 2014-18 was released in February last year. Brazilian power sector to receive US$74bn by 2018 According to projections from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), the country’s power sector will receive US$74 billion over the next four years. Estimates are based on projects which have already obtained power purchase agreements as well as projections from the federal energy planning company EPE. Generation projects will require the bulk of investments, especially hydro power plants (US$21.7bn) and wind farms (US$13.6bn).
