Trying to make sense of the current opportunities in the energy sectors

What has become abundantly clear this year is that globally the number of energy projects that have been proposed and are under development has increased significantly, and I see no signs of a slowdown in the near term. Why is that?
EICDataStream and our team of analysts are a good place to start in navigating your way through the opportunities and challenges that may exist in entering a new market.
The climate emergency is a huge contributing factor for the increase in project proposals, especially for the clean growth sectors. Governments around the globe have announced ambitious plans to reduce CO2 emissions significantly in the coming decade, the most notable of which in recent weeks was made by the Biden administration. The decision being made by Biden to rejoin the Paris climate accord just 107 days after it left and following this up with an announcement to reduce CO2 emissions by 50-52% from 2005 levels by 2030, is a clear sign of much needed leadership.
What about the role of oil and gas? Well, it will continue to have a major role and that despite the removal of support from numerous governments and financial institutions. Recent reports announced show that new oil discoveries need to be made with some urgency to ensure that supply can continue to meet demand in the coming years.
The UK of course has its own ambitious plans, which is to reduce CO2 emissions by 78% from 1990 levels. So how can these plans and those of other countries be realised? For governments it is not just about the setting of policy and regulation in the new emerging sectors, they are also now providing significant funding towards the new sectors and I cite examples in the UK, Norway and Netherlands where significant capital support has been made available to carbon capture projects under development. Developers and operators are also showing ambitions to diversify existing portfolios and you only have to take a look at the oil majors, and how they are making the transition into becoming energy majors with several of the players now making investments in offshore wind, solar, hydrogen and carbon capture projects to see that an energy revolution is beginning. Also driving the increase in project proposals is the everdecreasing cost of commoditised renewables such as onshore wind and solar PV which are now being even more widely adopted across the globe, and with costs of offshore wind continuing to come down proposals are being made in more and more countries, many of whom have extremely ambitious plans. For the supply chain though a word of caution when looking at all of these ‘fantastic’ new opportunities. Be aware of the regulations and policies that are being developed in countries. Energy transition projects and establishment of these sectors around the globe will often see a requirement for a high percentage of local content to be used in developments. It is important to understand when looking to enter these new markets what the local content provisions will likely be and to get a clear picture of the advantage of being based in country or outside country.
Gas has always been seen as having an important role to play in the energy transition as the fuel of choice to replace coal, and this will continue to be the case. For example, the importance of gas in the future of UK power production as back-up to renewables has been highlighted recently with the new gas fired power plants announced, which if all units proposed are built will see capacity of a combined 3GW (Teesside and Peterhead). Unlike previous plants though these new facilities will include carbon capture plants to capture the CO2 emissions produced. 2500 2000

As for the downstream sector, we see that traditional refineries are working on decarbonisation and due to the demand uncertainties brought on by the pandemic are looking at integrating petrochemical units or converting existing facilities into biorefineries or terminals. What is also clear is that the biofuel market is set to grow as countries are urged to include bioenergy in economic recovery post-COVID to create jobs while addressing our environmental challenges. In my opinion what we can be certain of, following all of the recent uncertainties, is that the energy industry across all of the sectors is going to see significant capital investment in the future, and that the EIC is here to support your company in navigating the opportunities and the challenges in the future. Inside this issue... June promises to be an actionpacked month for the EIC, with the long-awaited Energy Exports Conference due to take Mark R isley place on screen from 14-17 June, and the publication of the EIC Survive and Thrive Insight Report 2021. Now in its fifth year, the Survive and Thrive report series tracks and studies the growth strategies used by EIC members to excel during a crisis in an energy industry in transition that has had to both rebuild and redefine itself. In the inaugural edition in 2017, we spoke to companies reeling from the 20142016 oil price crash and highlighted the ways these companies grew in a turbulent market. Five years on and much has changed in the world both in the energy sector and beyond, but no more so than last year when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. With a record number of participants in 2021, the latest report studies the strategies EIC members put in place to not only survive the crisis of last year, but also to thrive. Key findings from the report show that diversification is the number one growth strategy used by companies, with many looking outside of energy to de-risk their portfolios. Companies made moves into new energy transition sectors, such as CCUS, hydrogen, energy storage and floating offshore wind, although tentatively and not as core pillars of their business – yet. We also attempt to explain what energy transition means, with many participating companies not 100% sure on the energy sector’s hottest buzzword. Exports were once again the least used strategy, with many looking at new overseas markets as too costly, risky and time-consuming to utilise in an uncertain market. With the Energy Exports Conference just a few weeks away, we hope to see many of you at this flagship event to hear some of the world’s top energy companies talk about export opportunities in lucrative overseas markets. Decarbonisation, without sacrificing reliability or efficiency The journey to net zero greenhouse emissions is underway. As the energy transition increasingly takes centre stage, particularly with COP26 in November, it’s incumbent on all companies to ensure we meet critical targets. This focus is driving one of the top trends impacting our industry today, ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance. While ESG isn’t a new concept, more organisations are laying out roadmaps and targets, taking a holistic approach to sustainability. There has been a continuing shift towards tackling environmental and social issues, which has been amplified over the last year as the pandemic hit us. As the world ground to a halt and travel plummeted, we were inundated with stories of how air pollution had significantly decreased as well as images shared globally across city skylines previously marred by smog. This focus won’t change as we see travel increase.
As companies continue to ramp up ESG in support of the energy transition, it is important to understand the changing landscape for business investment as well as attracting new talent. Investors are increasingly analysing a business’s ESG performance as a deciding factor; and candidates are becoming progressively aware of organisations’ core values when applying for jobs. EthosEnergy is no different, our recently launched ESG programme follows the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and will weave and integrate into every aspect of our business; this is part of our energy evolution. Sustainability will change how we do business in a fundamental way, we must shift all aspects of what we do; it’s not enough to watch the game, we have to be playing.
We need to be more conscious as humans about how we impact our planet, and businesses are no exception.
This energy evolution is not and will not be an easy journey, it’s a long-term goal and will take effort and resources to get to where we need to be. The change of energy is challenging across a number of areas; transportation, storage and stability of supply.
We already see B2B and B2C have less difference than traditionally, the same drivers shaping the decision making process. This is especially prevalent in younger generations, and as our industry sees these generations move into decision making positions the importance of ESG factors increases. There needs to be alignment between business, social and environmental factors to achieve success.
We need to be investing in new processes, energy types and ways of improving availability to support the energy transition. At EthosEnergy we have already developed a suite of life extension and emissions compliance solutions to support current assets in meeting targets. We reduce the environmental impact of current assets to make them more efficient, this allows for life extension and minimises the requirement for replacement.

It’s not simply about cost reduction but a significant impact on CO2 emissions across two fronts; one where avoiding production of new equipment and emissions during the manufacturing process, and the second avoiding or postponing the recycling of aged assets. Hydrogen (H2) represents a key enabler for the energy transition and EthosEnergy strongly believes it will drive future global energy businesses considering the pressure that, not only the European Union, but all major countries are putting on decarbonisation. The decarbonisation of the power generation sector can be achieved by increasing the share of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. However, these renewable sources provide a fluctuating electricity supply which needs to be balanced by other forms of reliable, affordable and sustainable power generation. The introduction of hydrogen as a fuel in gas turbines can be the solution. Hydrogen gas turbines would complement the intermittent nature of wind and solar power, easily being used as a vehicle to energy storage. Hydrogen can be produced via electrolysis (green hydrogen), using excess renewable power or by steam reforming of natural gas, which is also carbon neutral if CO2 capture technology is added (blue hydrogen). Reforming, coupled with carbon capture and storage is the first step to create sufficient hydrogen supply in the short term and enable the creation of a hydrogen infrastructure.

Green hydrogen will progressively grow; the European Union under COM/2020/301 is committed to the installation of 40GW of electrolysers by 2030. The global hydrogen production by 2028 is projected to be 3,5 Mton/ year of blue H2 and 0,6 Mton/ year of green H2 with Europe and North America contributing most. If we consider the average H2 consumption for one E class 40MW gas turbine operating base load is approximately 0,03 Mton/year, while an F class 170MW is about 0,1 Mton/year, thinking of 100% fuelled gas turbines in the short term is unrealistic. The availability of green hydrogen is limited due to its high price if compared with natural gas (about 5x more). With current technology setup, producing 40MW with a gas turbine fed by 100% green hydrogen would imply the installation of 10km2 of photovoltaic panels. From the numbers above, it’s clear that in the short term low hydrogen blend fuels (less than 25% volume) would be available on a large scale. Many infrastructure companies are developing solutions to blend low percentage hydrogen with natural gas into existing pipelines.
We have recently invested significantly in our hydrogen programme and have partnered with the Polytechnic University of Turin for the research and development of technology to allow conversion of 40MW size gas turbines to accept a hydrogen blend. As the energy industry spotlight increasingly centres on hydrogen, it is more crucial than ever that we collaborate with our trusted partners across various sectors to achieve this common goal. Part of COP26 is to ‘bring governments, business and civil society together to drive action across sectors of the economy to reduce emissions’ and we believe fundamentally in partnering to achieve goals. Although the energy transition will be a long-term journey, success will be realised by the steps we begin to collectively take as an industry through research and action.
Working innovatively with our partners to discover more efficient, reliable, and sustainable solutions to protect our people and planet. In our journey through the energy evolution, we are taking steps to provide multi-frame retrofit solutions: • Assess the current capability to burn hydrogen blend fuel into the existing TG20/W251B8 and FR6B combustion systems (target from 25 to 40%). • Assess the capability to reduce NOx to reasonable levels (25ppm@15%O2) by means of water/steam injection. • Develop a multi-frame retrofit solution that can interface with both engines able to burn from more than 40% H2 blend. The development of retrofit solutions for existing gas turbines will be crucial for the implementation of hydrogen gas turbine technology.
The first steps can be achieved with relatively small modifications to existing combustors, allowing co-firing of hydrogen at low blend rates. A 25% blend rate represents a reasonable, short term goal. Increased field experience will enable further developments, such as new types of combustors allowing up to 100% of hydrogen firing without the need for diluents for emission control.

HVPD KRONOS® MONITORING SOLUTIONS IMPROVE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY In the wake of COVID-19, existing upstream and downstream facilities will need to bear the strain of increased demand, and maximising plant uptime will be of utmost importance. HVPD’s partial discharge (PD) monitoring equipment and expertise provides the best early warning indicator of electrical insulation deterioration in MV and HV networks. With site access restrictions, live data concerning each asset’s condition is now more critical than ever. HVPD has responded to the pandemic by increasing remote site support offerings, from guiding at-site personnel with PD monitoring system installations through to remotely configuring software, performing routine data analysis, and monitoring PD data during the commissioning of new plant installations. HVPD offers continuous PD monitoring solutions for the complete HV network: • Rotating machines – with PD sensors placed in either the machine’s terminal box or remotely at the central switchgear using a patented technique; rotating machines located both in and out of hazardous gas zones can be monitored for PD. In addition advances in hardware and software de-noising technology have enabled monitoring of motors driven by variable speed drives.
• Power transformers and bushings – with a wide range of adapters for attaching to bushing test taps, the HVPD Kronos® Monitoring Solution can detect PD which emanates from the main windings and bushings of in-service transformers. • Power cables – sensors are installed to monitor cables and cable accessories, potential failure sites can then be located along the length of the cable using on-line cable mapping. • Switchgear – by connecting to pre-installed PD sensors or the retrofit installation of sensors, the HVPD Kronos® system allows PD monitoring of air insulated switchgear or ultra high frequency PD monitoring of gas insulated switchgear. The HVPD Kronos® monitoring has an easy-to-use web interface that collates asset insulation condition across the network to help operators make conditionbased maintenance decisions. Member news ABB to power world’s largest seawater desalination project ABB technology is being used to build the world’s largest desalination plant in Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The US$500m development will have the capacity to process over 900,000 cubic metres of seawater per day, enough to meet the demands of over 350,000 households.
Approximately 45km north of Abu Dhabi city, the Taweelah project will be the first reverse osmosis independent water project in Abu Dhabi which will desalinate seawater for supply to local communities and industry in the area. It will also set new benchmarks for its size, efficiency and cost by utilising the lowest amount of energy per cubic metre of water produced. As the world’s largest desalination plant, it is estimated to supply 909,200 m³/day and is scheduled to become fully operational in the fourth quarter of 2022. The plant will play a critical role in meeting the region’s peak water demand, which is projected to rise by 11% between 2017 and 2024.
ABB is working with SEPCOIII, the EPC contractor of the plant, to ensure power supply continuity, boost system operational efficiency and reduce maintenance costs. Challenged to provide safe, reliable and stable power supply to the operation of the seawater desalination equipment, ABB is delivering 30 panels of UniGear ZS3.2 medium-voltage switchgear and 250 panels of MNS® low-voltage switchgear with digital capabilities. To optimise operations, the MNS switchgear delivered has incorporated intelligent devices with a data interface to enable remote operation monitoring and condition-based maintenance of the switchgear. ABB has also delivered a wide range of low and medium voltage motors and variable speed drives to ensure reliable and energy efficient pumping in the plant. The ACS580MV medium voltage drives match the speed and torque of the motors to the pumping demand for maximum energy savings.

AEG Power Solutions, a global provider of power supply systems and solutions for industrial, critical infrastructure and innovative power electronic applications has announced that it will provide eight Thyrobox DC 3 systems to supply power to the electrolysis process of the hydrogen production plant built by MPREIS in Austria.

Amarinth, a leading company specialising in the design, application and manufacture of centrifugal pumps and associated equipment, has fulfilled an order to overhaul and install new mechanical seals on 10 API 610 VS4 pumps for use at the upgraded ADNOC operated Bab field.

Ashtead Technology has created a new role to head up its increasing activities in renewable energy. The integrated underwater technology and services company has appointed Scott Stephen to oversee the firm’s growing presence and enhance its service offering to support the global renewables market.

Based at Ashtead’s recently opened Thainstone technology centre in Aberdeenshire, UK, Mr Stephen has been promoted to the role after four years with the company latterly as an asset integrity business development manager and formerly as NDT sales manager.
Archirodon, the EPC awarded the Bab field upgrade, approached Amarinth to review whether new pumps would be required, or the existing pumps could be updated and integrated into the new oil train. Amarinth proposed that the seal support systems on the existing pumps be changed to Plan 71 nitrogen seals, which would be suitable for the higher concentrations of H2S, and that the pumps be fully refurbished and certified for use on the upgraded facility. It was agreed that the upgrade and refurbishment would be completed within 27 weeks from purchase order to commissioning as a longer shutdown would mean losing some £1m per day in production capacity, and this was all done during the global COVID-19 pandemic and country lockdowns.

Eaton launches advanced digital MCCB platform
Power management company Eaton has launched its most advanced digital moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB) in the UK. Combining IoT connectivity, maximum onsite safety, predictive maintenance and Class 1 energy metering in one compact smart device, Eaton’s digital NZM MCCB platform has been designed to enable building digitisation and decarbonisation. To ensure maximum protection of personnel, such as maintenance staff, the NZM compact circuit breakers offer Eaton’s Arcflash Reduction Maintenance System (ARMSTM) as an option. This goes beyond regulatory standards to create a safer working environment during maintenance switching. By reducing the tripping time, the system decreases the risk of arc faults and provides unparalleled onsite operative protection. Eaton’s new advanced digital MCCB platform enables remote monitoring and diagnosis capabilities to manage breaker health and ultimately, reduce system downtime. An integrated lifespan indicator ensures timely replacement of the device through predictive maintenance. With Power Xpert Release (PXR) trip unit technology, technicians can interact with the trip unit remotely from any laptop, using a USB connection. Additionally, Zone Selectivity Interlocking (ZSI) goes beyond time selectivity and current selectivity to ensure faults are isolated instantaneously, right where they occur. By guaranteeing tripping the breaker closest to the fault, the ZSI function limits the effects of an overload and minimises interruptions to operations. Combining ZSI, predictive maintenance and remote diagnosis features reduce systems downtime and enables quick, simple maintenance.

Essar Projects wins US$62 million contract in Papua New Guinea
Essar Projects PNG (EPPNG), part of Essar Capital’s technology and services portfolio, has won a contract worth over US$62m from the national government of Papua New Guinea to construct a provincial headquarters and associated works in the Jiwaka province. The contract was won via an international competitive bidding round following a stringent multi-stage short listing and approval process.

The announcement follows the recent launch of the Hydratight Academy’s approved eLearning modules and practical training course options. The Hydratight Academy eLearning platform comprises of comprehensive modules, including ECITB-approved courses and supports a blended learning approach, providing trainees with online theoretical instruction coupled with practical hands-on training options. As the world adjusts to the new normal and businesses and individuals look towards the future, eLearning is undoubtedly on the rise, as it complements the more traditional methods of learning. Further development of virtual platforms has improved access to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic; essentially preparing the workforce for the future ahead. New trainees can choose a blended learning approach by attending MJI practical training within four weeks of MJI eLearning course completion and receive full ECITB MJI training certification. International safety seal manufacturer Roxtec has supplied Scotland-based Orbital Marine Power with a range of cable sealing solutions to support construction of the world’s most powerful tidal turbine, the Orbital O2 2MW. Orbital is the world’s leading developer of floating tidal stream turbines. The company’s O2 turbine is nearing completion at TEXO Group’s manufacturing facility in Dundee and will enter operation this summer at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) off the coast of Orkney. Once operational it will become the world’s most powerful tidal turbine, capable of providing enough clean and sustainable electricity to power more than 1,700 UK homes every year. Protecting power station performance with Swan’s AMI CACE
Swan Analytical Instruments has developed a new technology for power and industrial water/steam monitoring systems to enable uninterrupted operation with the Swan AMI CACE (Conductivity After Cation Exchange) analyser.
Chemists at the South Humber Bank Power Station (UK) have reported one year of uninterrupted operation with this innovative conductivity instrumentation, demonstrating its ability to avoid gaps in vital data streams, while also saving costs and lowering labour requirements. Swan’s AMI CACE dispenses with the need to replenish the instrument’s cation exchange resin every month, which means that downtime is almost completely avoided.
Funded by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the new facility will initially support ongoing hydrogen feasibility and metrology research, including the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR), the UK Flow Programme and several demonstration projects seeking to transition the UK gas grid to hydrogen. The research will be shared publicly so that industry can make more informed choices about meter selection.

TÜV SÜD launches UK’s first domestic hydrogen meter calibration facility
TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory has launched the UK’s first traceable hydrogen flow calibration facility for domestic gas meters. The new facility will help meter manufacturers determine if existing meter stock, and new technologies under development, are correctly measuring hydrogen flow rates. This is a crucial step to ensure that hydrogen gas meters deployed onto the market in the future will deliver accurate measurements for customer billing and taxation purposes.

The North Sea Decarbonisation Conference (NSDC) on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 May 2021, saw over 700 delegates throughout the two days, heard from 50 industry leaders, 10 sessions and had 20 conference supporters. I am sure I echo the thoughts of many where I hope we return to events in a physical format soon, allowing us to meet up with faces old and new in an environment which will no Ryan M cPhers on doubt feel strange to begin with as we transition into the ‘new normal’. In the interim we have continued with our series of online webinars with our recent Qatar Market Update and GCC Project and Market Update attracting record numbers for the region, with over 100 attendees for each. We understand the continued need for market intelligence which we have looked to mirror with some business insights from the region in question to give you a comprehensive overview of what is happening at the moment. New members continue to join us from the region where we recently welcomed Al Gihaz and Worldwide Energy Logistics and look forward to welcoming many more throughout the course of the year. Saudi Aramco to sell 1% stake to major energy company
Saudi Aramco is in talks to sell 1% of the world’s biggest exporting oil company, to a leading global energy company. The potential sale to international investors may happen within the next one or two years, said Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The stake sale could be worth about US$18.9bn, based on the company’s current market capitalisation of 7.11 trillion riyals (US$1.89tn). Privatisation is a key pillar of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification agenda. In 2019, Aramco listed its shares on the Saudi Stock Exchange, Tadawul, in the world’s largest public offering, raising an initial US$25.6bn but later selling more shares, boosting the total to US$29.4bn. A total of 1.5% of the company, or about 3bn shares, were offered to retail and institutional investors at the time.
UAE and UK set to sign clean energy and tech investment deals
The United Kingdom expects to sign multibillionpound investment deals with the UAE in clean energy and infrastructure as it looks to deepen its trade and investment ties with the Arab world’s second-largest economy. The UK is also looking to finalise details of investments into its technology sector that may reach £1bn, according to Simon Penney, the UK Trade Commissioner for the Middle East. The potential deals follow the UK and UAE’s agreement for £1bn worth of joint investments in Britain’s life sciences industry under the Sovereign Investment Partnership signed in March.

Asia Pacific news Regional update
The COVID-19 situation is still worrying across the Asia Pacific region with India taking the worst hit with almost 4,000 fatalities per day. Azman Other APAC countries are Nasir also registering significant increases of daily cases compared to earlier in the year. Vaccination programmes are underway in most countries with Singapore and Taiwan leading in terms of the number of people having been vaccinated. Travelling within the region and to and from the region is still very much restricted as countries are wary of opening their borders in fear of potential new waves of COVID-19 spread.
In May and June our focus has been supporting the recruitment of potential speakers for the Virtual Energy Exports Conference on 14 to 17 June 2021. As far as APAC is concerned, speaking sessions are now almost confirmed and will feature key industry players from countries such as Taiwan, Australia, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Companies and organisations participating as speakers for sessions hosted by EIC APAC include Petronas, Shell, Sapura Energy, Reliance Oil, Engie, Western Australia Government, Yara Australia and the Ministry of Energy Sri Lanka. In the coming months we will be featuring our new ASEAN members as speakers in a series of webinars in June, July and August. These sessions will be a good opportunity for other EIC members in other regions to get to know these companies and possibly strike up some new relationships and tie-ups in pursuing business opportunities in the region. In light of travel restrictions, which are looking to continue for some time yet, webinars like these should be helpful for UK and international companies to meet regional companies virtually. There may also be opportunities for a number of one-to-one networking sessions after the webinars. We are happy to announce the arrival of two new energy analysts – Azzahrah Juraimi and Farhan Amran – and a new membership manager, Adhwa Sany. South Korea to build world’s largest floating offshore wind farm
South Korea has unveiled ambitious plans to invest US$32bn (KRW36tn) in what is said would be the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm. This is a key project needed to achieve the country’s goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The 6GW complex will be located off the coast of Ulsan City, at the Donghae 1 gas field, which is the country’s first commercially viable offshore natural gas field. It is targeted to come online by 2030. Additionally, ten major South Korean companies, municipalities and organisations are also planning to develop an offshore hydrogen production plant which will be powered by a portion of the power produced at the Donghae 1 floating offshore wind farm.
Eni and Santos eye upstream carbon capture collaboration opportunities
Eni and Santos have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to jointly seek collaboration opportunities in northern Australia and Timor-Leste. One of the areas of interest is the potential joint development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities, serving not only assets owned by the companies, but also third-party projects in the Darwin area, with the aim of facilitating the establishment of a carbon management hub in the Northern Territory. Potential co-operation in new upstream development opportunities in relation to other offshore stranded resources located in northern Australia is also an area of interest for the duo.

Here in Houston we are seeing a decline in COVID-19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths. Should this trend continue, along with high vaccination rates, we hope that face-toface meetings and events Amand a Duho n will take place safely soon. Until then, the Houston team continues to work diligently to continue delivering high-quality EIC LIVE e-vents. On 7 April we hosted the second of a three-part webinar series focused on the North American LNG sector. We were delighted to hear from Michael Sicker, President, Oil & Gas Division, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America; Renee Pirrong Director Research and Analysis, Tellurian; Guido Faramondi, Global EPC Key Account and North America LNG Leader, Baker Hughes; and Mike Younger, Director, Turner & Townsend. The Biden administration aims to accelerate the growth of the offshore wind sector with a target of 30GW of installed capacity by the end of this decade. Argentina sees disruption to O&G production at Vaca Muerta
Argentina’s oil and gas output experienced a decline between March and April following disruption to production sites in Neuquén. They were caused by protests by health workers and truck drivers, who demanded pay increases amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Demonstrations have blocked roads to fields at the Vaca Muerta formation, paralysing 45 rigs.
Brazil’s 17th bidding round in October
The National Petroleum Agency (ANP) has released the bidding rules for the upcoming 17th round for O&G concessions in Brazil. Scheduled to take place on 7 October, the bidding round will offer 92 offshore exploration blocks across the Campos, Pelotas, Santos and Potiguar basins.
