Welcome This season, our programme is one the busiest and most varied in our history. Our partner companies, as ever, have contributed significantly to the mix. The National Theatre open the UK tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in The Lyric on 18 December. Birmingham Royal Ballet return in March with their enchanting production of Coppelia (a ballet that is believed to have been a favourite of LS Lowry) and in March, Opera North treat us to the all-time classic, La traviata. In The Quays, we’re preparing to welcome back our Associate Artist, Kill The Beast, with their award-winning production, He Had Hairy Hands. A sell-out at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it was here at The Lowry, as part of our artist development programme, that the production came about – and we’re delighted to have an opportunity to showcase it again. Something new for this season is the Sick! Festival – an exciting collaboration with arts organisations across Greater Manchester that will showcase some challenging and vitally important work that focusses on issues that are often hidden or taboo.

Visitors to the Galleries can look forward to a very special Performer as Curator exhibition, Akram Khan: One Side to the Other. This landmark exhibition sees Khan bring together elements of performance alongside sculpture, painting, film, photography and installation. To mark the opening of the exhibition, Akram will also bring his wonderful production DESH to The Lyric. Visitors to the main Galleries will notice their re-naming as ‘The Andrew and Zoë Law Galleries’. This re-naming is in recognition of the remarkable generosity of The Law Family Charitable Foundation which has donated £1million towards our 2020 Capital Project. This donation marks an exciting time for the future of The Lowry. The 2020 Capital Project includes upgrades to the theatres; major improvements to our energy efficiency through a new lighting scheme and a redevelopment of our award-winning hospitality offer, which itself generates income to support The Lowry’s work. Exciting times! We hope to see you soon. Julia Fawcett OBE Chief Executive, The Lowry November 2014

‘Brilliant. It holds the audience in a vice like grip.’ Sunday Express
Mon 23 - Sat 28 March This powerful new production of Reginald Rose’s gripping courtroom thriller, Twelve Angry Men, comes to The Lowry following a record-breaking West End run. Hailed as the ‘classiest, most intelligent drama in the West End’, it brings to the stage the taut brilliance of the 1957 three-time Academy Award nominated film. A jury has murder on their minds and a life in their hands as they decide the fate of a young delinquent accused of killing his father. But what appears to be an open and shut case soon becomes a huge dilemma as prejudices and preconceived ideas about the accused, the trial and each other turn the tables every which way, until the nail-biting climax... AT THE LOWRY get involved, get inspired, get ahead
thelowry.com
At The Lowry we aim to not only give everyone the opportunity to access world-class art in our theatres and galleries but to also give everyone the chance to create great art themselves. We do this through a programme of workshops and activities aimed at all ages from under 5s (see p39) to working with young adults, to a series of activities aimed at adults. Our programmes ranges from ‘come and have a go’ activities, to longer term courses and skill development in dance, drama and visual art.
