Fully refurbished, domestic appliances, with warranty, at prices you can afford WASH, a local charity, has replaced SOFA as the supplier of domestic appliances to families on low income. They understand that particularly for families with children basic domestic appliances are a necessity. With a whole range of washing machines, fridges, freezers, dish washers, tumble dryers, fridge/freezers and electric cookers starting from £60, take a visit to the workshop at Maxwell Road, Peterborough. WASH was formed in December 2010 and took over the premises, the volunteers and capital assets from SOFA. They have also continued to support the workshop in Peterborough Prison where prisoners refurbish washing machines. For a small investment all areas of society will reap a massive reward. Support this venture and save your money and that of the country.

Stamford Community Orchard Group The Chairman and Secretary of the Stamford Community Orchard Group were recently invited to attend the Lincolnshire Environmental Awards Ceremony at the Bentley Hotel in Lincoln. Organized by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and the Lindum Rotary Club, the awards have been made annually since 1993, and celebrate inspiring schemes that improve the environment, encourage sustainability, raise awareness of environmental issues, and encourage others into action. The awards are divided into three sections, including one for Community projects which is sponsored by Centrica Energy. Faced with impressive competition, the representatives from the Orchard group were delighted when it was announced that they had won the Community Section, and were presented by Alice Gill of Centrica Energy with a trophy and certificate in recognition of their success. Chairman Max Winslow said that their success was due not only to members of the group but also to friends and volunteers, whose support had made it all possible.

Community Stamford Indoor Bowls Club accommodates up to 500 bowlers, aged nine to 90+, seven days a week throughout the winter months (as well as some summer daytime and evening sessions) and is hoping to attract even more to its refurbished stadium. A good percentage of bowlers are from the Deepings and Bourne, attracted to their nearest facility. WORLD CHAMPION TO HOST BOWLS OPEN DAY
Bowlers in the Deepings area will have a chance to meet one of the game’s greatest players on 17 September when the Stamford and District Indoor Bowls Club hosts its annual Open Day. Andy Thomson, currently ranked No.10 in the world and a former World Indoor bowls champion and capped more than 160 times for England, will be introducing bowlers to the indoor game at the 6-rink stadium in Exeter Gardens, Stamford from 9.30am. As well as a short exhibition match he will hold a bowls clinic and encourage those whom maybe have only played other competitive sports or have only played the game outdoors, to take part in some trial sessions. The 48-year-old, also well known as a broadcaster, columnist and TV commentator, will also talk about his ‘Life in Bowls’ at the top level for more than 30 years since he made his England debut alongside the legendary David Bryant. The event, which is free to enter for all ages from children to OAPs will run until 2pm. Refreshments are available together with a shop selling bowls, bowls equipment and accessories. Stress and the power of emotional healing Everyone at some point in their lives has had at least some trauma when growing up...For the lucky individuals, these traumatic events were mild and rare....however for some people the traumatic events they experienced were severe, horrific....for most people they fall in the middle of these two categories. Over the years we have built up a book load of traumatic memories which are then fuelled by negative experiences as young adults.... so by the time we are in full adulthood we have formed behaviours and coping strategies based on our experiences...so much so that our emotional growth has been shaped by them and we believe that we are destined to remain like this. Not only can psychological problems be addressed, physical symptoms can improve too! There is a strong association between stress and disease. A study of 17,421 adults performed by a hospital chain and the Centre of Disease Control (CDC) in the USA looked at the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACE) and disease. The ACE study found that those who had the highest rate of emotional trauma also experienced the highest rates of diseases/ health problems as adults. They likened it to fire fighters who direct all their water at the
smoke (physical disease) whilst ignoring the flames underneath (unresolved emotional trauma) This is not to say that all physical diseases are linked with emotional trauma.... but what it does highlight is that a lifetime of carrying around the burden of trauma does takes it’s toll on the human body. So by resolving/reducing the emotional trauma associated with the symptoms....once those memories don’t hurt anymore, the stress response is reduced....and the body has a chance to heal. Kitchen garden Lift and store main crop potatoes to avoid damage from slugs. Dry and with loose soil knocked off, store in paper or Hessian sacks. Pick apples as they ripen. Extras can be stored in boxes or on shelves in a cool room or shed out of the sunlight. Never store damaged or bruised fruit and check regularly for rot. Prepare a bed for autumn planted garlic and over wintering onions. For an early crop next year sow broad beans.
Ornamental garden Keep dead heading to get the longest display from late flowering perennials. Collect and sow ripe seed, take late summer cuttings of Salvias and Penstemons.
Lawns This is the perfect time for lawn maintenance; 1 Scarify your lawn using a wire rake or petrol scarifyer.
3 Apply an autumn/ winter slow realise fertiliser, to keep the sward healthy. 4 Apply evenly a bagged top dressing with grass seed that suits your lawn added to the top dressing.

Patching passion A simple but very effective craft is ‘ Decopatch’. Not heard of it? It is a similar technique to Papier-mâché but with beautiful papers, allows you to transform simple everyday items around the home. It’s easy, not too messy and not an expensive hobby if you look to recycle picture frames for
Because it is a very thin, but strong and flexible paper, decopatch is especially easy to use. Decopatch can be applied to most materials, for example metal, wood, plastic, glass, paper mache, wicker, ceramics and cardboard. *Decopatch paper is easily applied to any kind of surface (flat or uneven). *Decopatch is the only paper which produces a smooth texture and a real paint effect. *Decopatch paper is deep-dyed and glazed. It will not break apart when glued, and the colours will never fade or run.
If you’re stuck for ideas on how to entertain the children on those late summer weekends, then why not take them to Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre for some holiday fun on your doorstep? www.sacrewell.org.uk or call 01780 782254.

• Barclays Financial Planning Arm closes - 26th January 2011 • HSBC Close Long Term Care Planning Division – 21st June 2011 • BBC Panorama labels Bank’s Advice as ‘Inaccurate’, ‘Misleading’ and ‘Pressurised’ – 13th June 2011 There can be no doubt that there are major changes in the financial market at the moment. Global instability and high profile misselling scandals are causing all of the major institutions and thousands of advisors to look at what they offer to consumers and at how they can continue to offer advice services profitably. Many are concluding that they simply can’t and will not be doing so. Thousands of people have been affected by the wholesale closure of these advisory services and are left wondering who to turn to. The answer lies in a Financial Services Authority initiative – the Retail Distribution
Review, a process that will ensure that by 2013 only the best qualified advisors are able to call themselves independent. At Tancreds we are ahead of the game – our advisors are already qualified and our clients are reaping the benefits of this new style of advice. If Barclays, Norwich and Peterborough, HSBC or any advisor leaving the industry has left you wondering who to turn to, give us a call to discuss how you can benefit from working with a forward looking, independent advisor. Making life a little sweeter
As Forrest Gump once said, “Life is like a box of chocolates… you never know what you are going to get”. Indeed, sooner or later, everyone ends ups with that chocolate at the bottom of the tin that no-one really likes very much. We appreciate life doesn’t always go to plan – so it’s at times like these that you need the reassurance that comes from having planned for what lies ahead and the knowledge that your future is secure. However, this can be a complicated process and finding the right advice and knowing where to go can be a challenge.
Free advice on planning for the future MT Financial Management Limited and Hegarty Solicitors to invite you to a free, informative seminar in Market Deeping which covers the financial and legal issues that everyone faces when looking at how to preserve their assets and pass them on to future generations. The seminar runs from 9.30am until midday and covers topics such as funding for long-term care, pension planning in retirement, wills, powers of attorney and inheritance tax planning. We will discuss a broad range of options that can be used by most people, providing you with a good idea of the choices available.
Meeting your needs – now and in the future Hegarty LLP and MT Financial Management Limited are local firms with close links to be communities they serve, enabling them to have built up an in-depth knowledge of the issues facing local people. As a result, they can provide dedicated advice, tailored to your particular circumstances. In addition, both firms have received independent verification of the high level of professional and client-focused expertise offered.
Take action early While this seminar will be particularly beneficial for those who are aged 60 and over, planning for the financial burdens of later life can be very effective when considered much earlier in life. Planning in advance means you can make informed decisions and take action before you risk losing the assets you have worked your entire life for.
Consequently, if you would like to remove the worry of planning for your future, please reserve your place by contacting Louise Hildred on 01775 711333 or louise@mooret.co.uk. Spaces are strictly limited, so please book now. Telephone: 01780 783613 | September 2011
