CRICKET WEEK AND BEER FESTIVAL Burghley Park Cricket Week and Beer Festival has been growing year on year and this year the club plan to make it even bigger! Held, as always, in the first full week in July and kindly sponsored again by Hindmarch & Co (Stamford) Ltd, the week commences on Monday 2 July and goes on until Friday 6 July.
CONTAINERS IN BLOOM The unusual containers in Deeping St James, this year planted with a Jubilee theme, are not only humorous, inventive and glorious examples of summer colour but they are also a great way to socialise, as neighbours get together over the garden gate and discuss their entries into this year’s competition. The competition this year will see the containers on view throughout the village of Deeping St James from 30 June until 13 July, ready for judging under RHS East Midlands in Bloom. Maps can be purchased for just £1 from DSJ Parish Council Stand at the Rose and
The week consists of all day games, on each day of the week, starting at 10.30am. From 6pm every evening, the ever popular Burghley Park six-a-side competition takes place. This year is the 54th year of the six a side competition or the ‘Burghley Sixes’, as it has become popularly known, and it is proving as popular as ever with crowds starting to get back to the numbers attending in those heady days of the 60’s. 16 local village teams are invited to take part with three games being played each evening starting at 6pm. The semi finals and final take place on the Friday evening, with a live band performing after the sixes final on the Friday evening. In the last few years another highlight has been the introduction of a real ale festival in the ‘Forest Garden Services’ marquee. At least 20 real ales are available each day and evening during the week and so it is worth visiting the Park. The beer tent this year will be a great vantage point to watch the Olympic torch go by as it enters and exits Burghley Park on Tuesday 3 July!

FESTIVAL FASHION This summer has a host of festivals for everyone from the festival-veterans to festivalvirgins – but, whilst the lineup’s might vary, the key trends you need to be working don’t. Here are three of the most fashionable looks that will keep you looking hot in the crowd! Power Plants Shrinking violets need not apply – the key to nailing this trend is go big or go home. Thanks to the proliferation of digital print technology, floral prints have blossomed from naturallooking to hyper-real in bold, punchy colours and styles. Mary Katrantzou’s collection for Topshop is inspirational, with vibrant palm-tree and lily patterns but for the cheaper alternative, H&M and River Island have cashed in on the trend with kaleidoscopic prints and radioactive flowers.
but the checked shirts have evolved into dresses (New Look has a great red gingham dress a la Rihanna for £19.99), maxi-skirts have been transformed from the pretty-pastel to hard-rock black (Warehouse), scraping the floor and accompanied by studded ankle boots (Schuh, Faith and New Look).

The best way to wear them? Clashed up and maxed out. Mix a tropical bralet or vest from the likes of Primark or New Look with a funky pair of shorts or cropped trousers. Remember, it’s a jungle out there.
Grunge The ‘90s was the spring trend that rebelled against conformity – and it refuses to go away. Luckily, it’s a trend that epitomises ‘festival-cool’ and is surprisingly easy to master: providing you have the attitude to go with it, that is. When embracing this trend, channel the style of Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love and Taylor Momsen, and choose pieces that you won’t mind getting a little dirty.

If you went out and bought the key grunge pieces last season, then be warned that the trend has been given a slight twist. The band t-shirts and ripped denim shorts remain the same,
If you’re trying to find the perfect summer outfit, find inspiration from the laid-back cool and effortless chic of California. I’m talking about that Kate Bosworth vibe – all tousled hair, tie-dyed clothing and piled-high bracelets. Topshop have a fantastic range of tie-dyed clothing, ranging from blue and purple A-line skirts (great with a pair of gold gladiator sandals) to micro-shorts. But, if that all seems a bit too ‘laid-back’, then why not try a maxi-dress from Marks and Spencer’s (their coral dress with cream necklace is only £30 and looks great with either sandals or brown cowboy boots) or denim cropped jacket from New Look? The key to getting this trend, though, is the accessories so make sure you buy loads of bangles from Topshop, Accessorize, New Look and load them up and pile them high! Olympic Training Olympics around the corner, so lets take a little peak into why the athletes across all disciplines, will be ensuring ‘strength training’ is part of their routine. Olympics around the corner, so lets take a little peak into why the athletes across all disciplines, will be ensuring ‘strength training’ is part of their routine. Just a short time ago, most people thought that strength training would cause you to become muscle-bound and would be counterproductive to good chosen sport, be that running, cycling, rowing etc. Strength builds the foundation for ALL other athletic qualities. This is due to the fact that all aspects of a proper technique require high levels of muscular strength. Strength training is a vital part of complete conditioning. The primary function of the body’s 600+ muscles is to contract (shorten in length) to move body parts (remember that only muscle can cause movement). The stronger the muscles and the more forceful the contractions, the faster the athlete will run, higher he will jump, further he will throw/kick, and harder he will hit. An added bonus of strength training is injury prevention. Athletes who strength train, tend to have fewer injuries. This is because strength training strengthens the muscle attachments and increases density of bones at the sites of muscle origins and insertions. And if an injury does occur to an athlete who has been strength training properly, it will probably not be as serious and will tend to heal faster. So next time someone tells you weight training is just for bodybuilders, think again.
1. Cool down – End your session with 5-10 minutes of low intensity exercise. Limit the stress on joints and tendons. This cool down helps to flush out the by-products of the exercise session, such as lactic acid, and helps reduce how sore you feel the next day! 2. Fluid intake – Drink water during exercise but also after, to continue the rehydration process. Consider added electrolytes, if larger quantities of fluids are required, such as in warmer climes. 3. Protein and Carbs for repair – Try to eat a protein rich snack, with some carbs, within 30 minutes of exercising. Again this helps with repair and recovery. Sports nutrition snacks are convenient, but cottage cheese, tuna, chicken, egg whites all fit the protein bill. www.fitness2health.co.uk Facebook: Mark FitnessTrainer Get on two wheels with our voucher giveaway with Cycle Wright, based at Waterside Garden Centre in Baston.
We have FIVE £20 discount vouchers to giveaway, to be used against a new bike. Five winners will be picked at random, on 26 June 2012. Closing date for entries is Friday 22 June 2012. Email naomi@scenepublishing. co.uk or post your entry to Community Scene – Cycle Wright Comp, The Old School House, Great North Road, Wittering, PE8 6BX.
Muscle recovery after exercise is key for repair and refueling for your next session. By working on muscles too soon, you don’t give them enough time to repair and rebuild, and you can risk injury.

CAN YOU BECOME ADDICTED TO INTERNET FORUMS & SOCIAL NETWORKS? I’ve noticed more clients contacting me regarding their ‘dependency’ on the web… it’s a very modern symptom, for some people ‘hide’ behind the internet, using it as an excuse not to go out in the real world!! Many of us catch up with friend’s lives on Facebook; and the internet is a great tool for information gathering, it can connect us with other like-minded people worldwide. The web can be a huge comfort to the lonely/isolated and I can see how ‘blogging’ can be helpful in self-therapy. But there does need to be a balance, like I said earlier, some people hide behind the net, never really interacting and using it as an excuse not to engage in the ‘real world’; this is very true with individuals suffering from phobias, social anxiety and low self-esteem. On the ‘net’ you can be whoever you want to be….. but it’s not real…. It’s a virtual world and a virtual existence; therefore people, rather than interacting with reality itself, interact with a stimulation of reality. For many, the allure of the ‘anonymity’ on the web, affords them the ability of playing with different personae/ roles….. Which parts of your online personae/attributes do you like the most? Could you bring those parts of your ‘online/virtual’ personae into your real everyday life? What would it be like to manifest those positive qualities of your ‘online avatar’,be more assertive, confident, lose weight etc. Is anything stopping you from making it real?
Is it possible to be addicted though? The first internet addiction clinic was set up in China; it’s not so much the internet per se that is seen as addictive or habit forming, as the social networking sites such as Facebook/Twitter. For some, being out of touch for more than 10 minutes on these sites, causes anxiety/withdrawal symptoms; many people can recognise the feeling of fear when being without their mobile smartphone and access to social networking: Well, it’s a recognised condition/phobia called ‘Nomophobia’ – the very real modern fear of being without your mobile phone! Nobody’s saying don’t use the internet and these sites, just get a balance in your life and make sure you interact also with the real world out there too! So, if there is anything that you would like to change about yourself, addictions, habits, compulsions, obsessions & changing those negative belief systems, or even the feeling of ‘something inside you, but outside your control’ , Contact me now to arrange your FREE Initial Consultation;

The percentage of marriages ending in divorce has increased significantly over the past few years. It is interesting to note that whilst 20 per cent of marriages in 1969 had ended by the 15th wedding anniversary, a whopping 33 per cent of marriages in 1994 had ended after the same time. BE CLEAR ON CANCER Have you ever felt that food gets stuck in your throat when eating, or have you or someone you know been suffering from heartburn or indigestion on and off for three weeks or more? If you notice any of these symptoms, tell your doctor straight away. The chances are that it’s nothing serious but it’s always best to get it checked out as soon as you can.
Remember – you are not wasting anyone’s time by getting your symptoms checked out, so make that trip to your doctor’s surgery. If it’s nothing to worry about, your mind will be put at rest. But if it is cancer of the stomach or oesophagus, early detection makes it easier to treat.
These symptoms could be signs of stomach or oesophagus cancer. The oesophagus is the long tube (gullet) that carries food from the throat to the stomach.
Seeing your doctor without delay may save your life.
There are almost 700 new cases of these two cancers in Anglia every year and they cause over 500 deaths annually in the region. Both cancers affect men and women, but are more common in men. More than nine out of 10 people who get cancer of the stomach or oesophagus are over 55.
Remember to see your doctor straight away if: • Food ever feels like it’s sticking in your throat when you swallow, or • You’ve had heartburn or indigestion on and off for 3 weeks or more
