Early Days
Sri Anjaneyalu was born into a Smartha family bearing the name “Tangirala”, of Apasthamba Sutra, Krishna Yajur Sakha, in Alugumallepadu village in Palnadu area of Guntur,Andhra Pradesh on the banks of river Naguleru. He was born onChaitra Shukla Shasti of the year Khara (the sixth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Chaitra)to Sri Venkateshwara Avadhani and mother Smt. Ananthalakshmamma. The young boy evinced signs of keen devotion towards the Higher Energies in His childhood. His Brahmopadesha was performed when he was seven years of age. Sri Anjaneyalu was regular in the performance of the prescribed karmas of Sandhyavandanam three times a day, and Agnikaryam, twice a day. The young lad, in addition to schooling, spent time to study Sanskrit and also started taking Vedic lessons from his father, who himself was a Vedic scholar.
Influence of the Guru
In the year 1966, Sri Anjaneyalu approached the 35thJagadguru of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji at the age of 15, seeking Jagadguru’s blessings and tutelage in the sastras. The Jagadguru accepted the disciple and the lessons in the Tarka sastras commenced. The Acharya also kept a close watch over the progress of his ward.
Embracing Sanyasa
Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji announced his desire to appoint the Seetharama Anjaneyalu as the successordesignate (as the 36th Jagadguru Acharya) and give him Sanyasa. The Shishya Sweekaram ceremony took place on the 11thday of November, 1974 and Sri Anjaneyalu received the saffron robes, the sacred staff and the kamandalu (water pot) from the acharya. The newly initiated sanyasi was given the Yogapatta Sri Bharati Teertha in line with the Dashanami Sampradaya of Shri Adishankaracharya.
Reign as Jagadguru
Sri Bharati Teertha Mahaswamiji has deep knowledge of shastras like Vedanta, Mimamsa, Tarka, Nyaya, Vyakarana amongst others. He has had His studies in the Yajur Veda in Sadvidya Sanjivini Pathasala prior to taking up Sanyasa. The devotees of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham pay frequent visits to the Mutt seeking guidance and blessings of the Acharya. Eminent people like Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi and former President Late Abdul Kalam have visited and sought the blessings and guidance of the Acharya. Maha Swamiji is familiar with and delivers benedictory addresses in Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. Maha Sannidanam has undertaken Vijaya Yatras (tours) to different places within India. In the year 2017 the Acharya had His Vijaya Yatras in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The Jagadguru is assisted by Sri V. R. Gowrishankar as the CEO and Administrator of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. The sacred Mutt has undertaken activities in the field of education and social service in addition to being a seat of great Vedic learning.
Appointment of the Successor Sri Bharati Teertha Mahaswamiji has appointed Sri Kuppa Venkateshwara Prasada Sharma as Hissuccessor designate, the 37th Jagadguru of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham on 23 January 2015 with the monastic name) Sri Vidhusekhara Bharati Mahaswami. Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Swamiji was born on Naga Panchami day, July 24, 1993 — in Tirupati. Born as the second son of Sri Kuppa Shivasubrahmanya Avadhani and Smt.Seetha Nagalakshmi, He belonged to the Kaundinya Gotra and is a native of Anantavaram, Guntur District in Andhra Pradesh. His family has a long lineage of illustrious Vedic Pandits who were all ardent disciples of the Sringeri Jagadgurus. (Source: Internet)
