War. Occupation. Imperialism. Contrasting concepts of art. In war, it is also a conventional fact that no sides win. Wars happen in pursuit of power and rights. Every aspect of war contradicts what art is. Art is perceived in many ways that differ from person to person. One might find a known ugly piece beautiful, one might find a beautiful one ugly. Overall, art is something that is always up for interpretation. War isn’t. War is statistics, well-planned out military strategies, and always ends up ugly. There is no beauty to war. Art in tragedy is a concept that’s been introduced ever since the old ages. Art existed way earlier than political and militarized war did. However, even with minor

The Russo-Ukrainian War started in 2014. It was commenced by Russia hoping for another opportunity to exercise their power on the country of Ukraine. They have been a target of Russia since its independence mainly due to one reason: cultural similarities. The Soviet Union collapsed due to Ukraine’s independence. Following its independence, Ukraine began leaning towards other Western states and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
Art tells a story. This is a conventional fact. Museums, exhibitions they all tell stories that encompass the artists’ emotions, journeys, or thoughts. He stands in solidarity with Ukraine and does not fail to emphasize his presence as a complete critic of the running Russian government. about war focuses not only on symbolism but also presents the real life dilemmas brought upon by the war. The most admiring set of artists are called Kherson’s secret art society. Highlighting all the different things occuring in the hands of Russian soldiers, six artists produce eye opening art in the Ukrainian city of Kherson. Hoping to get comfort through one of the only remaining mediums, artists like Manukian, ZHUK, and Li Biletska would push out different art pieces to heighten the awareness of what is happening in Ukraine.
The artworks created by these artists are straightforward and symbolic. “Impossible to stay/leave” by Marka Royal is an artwork that features the moments of saying goodbye to a loved one. The sentiment from the tight hug, which is the subject of the piece, highlights the desire to hold on to a loved one in the face of war. Artur Sumarokov created a play separated into two parts: The Captivity (Part 1) and The Captivity (Part 2). Sumarokov believed that being under occupation is to stop fearing death.

His expression is horrified, and rightly so. He has just struck his son with his scepter, and he will die of his injuries in a matter of days. Roughly three centuries later, an artist named Ilya Yefimovich Repin would depict the scene in his now famous painting, Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan.
The painting was first vandalized by a fellow artist, Abram Balashov, in 1913. He screamed as he took a knife to the painting, leaving three long cuts over the faces of the two men in the painting. Thankfully, Repin was able to restore the damage done to his painting. Although it isn’t historically proven, the story goes that the curator of the museum (in which the painting was housed) was so ashamed that the painting had been vandalized that as soon as he heard of the incident, he jumped in front of a train and killed himself.
had been already done, I hid the painting in disappointment, then took it out and charged again. Sometimes, I was gripped with fear…My friends also got this impression from the painting. But something pushed me to finish this painting.”’ The strong emotions the painting evoked would be a common theme throughout its history. It was the first painting to be censored by the Russian Empire. Something about the painting would always evoke something within the viewer. Ivan’s eyes are wide and haunting as he stares, not at his son he has just struck, but off into the distance. Perhaps in some way knowing that the end is near, not just for his son, but for his family dynasty.
Historically speaking, there is not a definitive answer as to why he killed his son. The two main theories as to what happened are (1) a political disagreement and (2) that Ivan the Terrible saw his daughter in law, his son’s wife, in her undergarments and took it as a blatant sign of disrespect. He went into a rage, beating her until she miscarried. When his son intervened, he attacked his son, beating him with his scepter. It is a captivating story, but the history of the painting is, arguably, just as interesting.

What makes it as legal as any other art form?
While these aesthetics have remained important to the new generation to embrace who they are and break the rules set by society, they have somehow not been appreciated by people who feel that this art should be illegal.
Though graffiti mostly beautifies the streets, it can also be used for hate speech, including going against people on the basis of race and color This is one of the reasons why many countries have made graffiti illegal.
13
When young New York was emerging and settling down, there was a street culture of painting walls with different spray paints; these paintings have since remained as a symbol of the start of something called “Graffiti.”
Street art beautifies the community by appearing in areas that normally would be eyesores
The artists leave messages on the wall so that they can reach more passersby and convey what they wish to share.
Graffiti is complicated, and the messages are simpler Hence, they are somehow related to the artist's mind. This makes them more interactive to see on the streets.
What makes it vandalism?
Street art, a word used by graffiti lovers to distinguish it from vandalism, and hence is considered illegal when someone's private property – without the owner's consent – has been used for making the art.
Many artists believe public property to be the best for making graffiti, especially when it is related to politics; destruction of public property also makes it illegal.

It’s not just Heathrow that’s struggling; Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada has delayed more than half of its flights between May 26 and July 19 (Hunter 2022). Whether it’s to visit family overseas or to take a small break from the hustle of our daily lives, travel is an important part of our life. Nowadays, air travel is an increasingly popular option because of the shorter travel time. Air travel, however, reduced dramatically as the pandemic hit, as confined spaces were to be avoided. This led to a massive hit on the air travel industry, and many companies started laying off employees. Now, as the world starts to return to our pre pandemic “normal”, everyone is itching to get a sense of it. For many of us, traveling is a way to feel normal. This desire to travel, combined with the lack of manpower in the industry, has led to a disaster. For those who have traveled by air within the last few months, the summer of ‘22 has been a nightmare.
As airports receive thousands of passengers daily, many are unable to keep up with the demand. London’s Heathrow Airport has asked airlines to stop selling summer tickets, as it limits the number of passengers to 100,000 per day at the airport. CEO John Holland Kaye wrote a letter to his passengers, saying, “over the past few weeks, as departing passenger numbers have regularly exceeded 100,000 perday, we have started to see

In the life of a Black African when apartheid was imposed, everything was separated. Just like in ancient times, there was a hierarchy that put Black people at the very bottom; thus, they were treated like peasants. Even facilities were color separated, and Whites were given better functional facilities. Black people were given a separate education system from White people, where heroes were white and Bantus (Blacks) were depicted as thieves and terrorists.
Apartheid was meant to be contradictory. Non whites were the majority population, yet they were given the least rights by their government. White people were threatened by the heavier population of non blacks. In their minds, opportunities, jobs, and every commodity would be catered to non whites more if there was no apartheid. Verwoerd, a White man himself, was appointed the Prime Minister of South Africa and left apartheid as the legacy of Britain’s colonization of South Africa.

Now, what if you knew that the political leaders in the 21st century support a racially undermining, unjust concept that destroys everything this era stands for? Does that sound like the reputable era every individual, any color, is living in right now? How will society go about the hypocrisy in fighting against racial discrimination when even our leaders execute the idea of racial segregation?

POLITICIANS FORAPARTHEID
Apartheid is still micro expressed in today’s world compared to the past few decades. Other words such as racial segregation, racism, and racial discrimination are synonymous to the gravity of apartheid.
Apartheid is a concept that dates back to 1948. Created by Hendrik Verwoerd. In layman’s terms, it was a policy imposed in South Africa and South West Africa that discriminated against non-whites. In general, apartheid is now defined as segregation, even in grounds other than race (though most commonly race based).
s aren’t afraid to say that they even think ing apartheid and larger scale in their es. Orban as a current politician should know that mixing races isn’t a poisonous drug that dilutes the European ness of Hungary. Being mixed-race doesn’t mean cutting down the history and culture of one side, it gives individuals the opportunity to belong in a fusioned society of beautifully diverse cultures. So why is Orban so occupied with the idea of diversity being a pollutive agent today?
Everyone deserves a nation. More than that, everyone deserves a nation that presents no discrimination and promotes fair treatment of all - no matter one’s skin, color, race, or identity.
Viktor Orban, after all his words, still denies that he is a racist even though he shows racism with obvious intent. If we have politicians who are not even educated in the most significant parts of our history that shape the society today and are not afraid to lash out and say insensitive things just like Orban, then we need a better set of leaders.
Orban believes that nations who house mixed races contradicts themselves, because as Orban states, “We (pertaining to his country and other European states) are willing to mix with one another but we do not want to become peoples of mixed races.”

Even though what Elon Musk did was wrong as he gave his word and pulled back from the deal, he asked the right questions as everyone deserves to know accurate details about their security and privacy. psychology behind stores
Ever wondered why a grocery store is laid out the way it is? Read on to learn about the nature behind designing a store’s layout!
NASA launched the James Webb Space Telescope on December 25, 2021. Earlier this year in July, NASA shared the first pictures that the telescope had taken. The pictures were trending soon afterwards. In this article, we will talk about the telescope, break down some pictures, and explain what the images could mean for us.
A spectrograph can disperse light from an object into a spectrum, which tells us about the physical properties of objects in space.

Named after the NASA administrator largely responsible for the Apollo missions’ success, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the “largest and most powerful” space telescope that NASA has ever launched, costing $10 billion (Howell & Dobrijevic, 2022). It reached its permanent home, the lagrange point L2 (a gravitationally stable point in space) on January 24, 2022. NASA has four main goals with the telescope: to look back at the first stars and galaxies, understand how galaxies are formed, see through dust to understand how stars are born, and explore past our galaxy for other atmospheres or other “building blocks of life” (NASA, n.d. a).
Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam)
This is the telescope’s “guider” and it helps JWST point in the right direction (NASA, n.d.-b).

Planetary nebulae actually aren’t planets, they are rings of dust and gas that red giants (a type of star) throw off as they die. Walking through the aisles, people are driven to stop and look at an appealing item. By the time you’ve gotten to the essential milk, your cart will be half filled with other snacks. Most of those snacks are located on your right. In the United States, the majority of people are right handed, and humans tend to pay more attention to items on their right.
Enter your go-to grocery store. You’re only here for basic items milk, eggs, fruits and vegetables. But an hour later, you’re carrying bags with mouth watering snacks. How can you explain this relatable experience? Turns out that grocery stores are designed based on deep psychological truths. store is of good quality (Berlinger, 2012). Oftentimes, essential items like milk and eggs are placed at the end of the store, behind the numerous aisles of other goods. The thought process behind this is that after spending a certain time in the market, “our decision making becomes more impulsive and emotional,” making us more susceptible to buying unnecessary things (HustleEscape, n.d).

Finally, say you’ve come to the grocery store with a child, one who isn’t that tall. Enter ‘kid level’ items. These include sugary cereals, macaroni and cheese, or candy. In one study, researchers found that characters on cereal boxes “made more eye contact with kids when they appeared at lower
boxes” (Mitrokostas, 2019). That is, lower level items with enticing imagery draw children, who can beg for what they want, making their parents spend more money.

Another interesting feature is the end cap of an aisle. It contains items, often of well-known brands, that are supposed to pull shoppers into the labyrinth of aisles. Brands can pay colossal amounts to have their items placed at the edges of aisles (Berlinger, 2012). In an aisle, there are multiple brands of the same item. Cheaper brands are located at the bottom, while more expensive, well known varieties are exactly at eye level.

When thinking about self care, it’s all about tuning into your body, and fulfilling what it needs. Some days, it could want to be low energy, warm baths, and introspection. Whereas the other days, your body and mind could desire social interaction. We might take our friendships and relationships for granted, not realizing that they are another source of self-care. They have an impact on our well being, just like exercising and saying positive affirmations do.

With that being said, what are some ways social interaction brings stability and well being? First, make sure that any relationship supports internal growth, and doesn’t inhibit it. Toxic relationships with anyone can inhibit personal growth, so try to avoid those as much as possible. However, if you are unable to avoid or leave any relationship, practice acts of social selfcare with the relationships that are healthy.
The mind’s desire for social interaction can be fulfilled without any close relationships. Being polite to others, offering help, and even smiling at strangers can lighten the air around us, increasing our oxytocin (the love chemical). It’s three days before school starts and you’re hopping from one Staples to the next, desperately trying to find the perfect school supplies for the perfect year. But when you step through Staples’ automatic doors, all you find is a swarm of people with the same intentions as you to claim the most appealing folders and brightest highlighters as their own. By the time you wade to the wall of notebooks, only the most basic ones remain. Sound familiar?
Maybe it doesn’t, and you purchase your supplies weeks in advance, ensuring that no one steals your favorite pens; or perhaps you buy online and have everything delivered, avoiding the frantic process of scavenging for supplies in person. No matter your experience with school supply shopping, there are items you need for a successful back to school experience.

While striving towards being more sustainable, one must equally work towards environmental equity that prioritizes frontline BIPOC communities. It is important to move blame away from individual impact and towards the companies and policy makers that are exacerbating and profiting from the climate crisis. However, individual actions hold effect as well and people can often always do more to help the situation than they believe they can. In order to do so, one can ask oneself: “How can I help best as an individual?” Following through by taking effective action does not always guarantee a perfect solution, but it is a vital step in the right direction.
Beyond sustainability, students can encourage their peers to get involved with environmental work by starting/joining a club at their school or a local organization related to environmentalism. Grassroot efforts from individuals and communities translates into actionable change through legislative policy work, as well as the cultivation of empowerment and solidarity among those involved. Within these spaces, students can meet like minded people with a passion for change.

OOPIN PIN is it justifiable for countries to legalize child labor? 43 p.45
NNION ION is cosmetic surgery the right choice? 44 p.47
Agreeing to the legalization of child labor would be enforcing protection to the burden of children needing to work. If child labor was legalized, there would be laws regulating the act in favor of the children. These laws would likely include: at what age a child would be allowed to work, what counts as child IS IT JUSTIFIABLE FOR ICOUNTR S IT JUSTIFIABLE FOR COUNTRI
If child labor is continuously criminalized, the protection of children who choose to involve themselves in child labor would not be executed properly. If we lived in a world where child labor was legal, laws to separate child labor and child exploitation would be enforced. Just from the names themselves, labor and exploitation are greatly different. In the adult world, labor is normalized as normal work while exploitation is work involving their rights being stripped from them.
Does child labor still exist? Yes. Is child labor a crime? Also yes. Due to the criminalization of child labor, children are forced to work in secret so their families can experience a better life.
labor, and what counts as exploitation. Legalizing child labor would not only make children accepted as eligible individuals who can work and have the right to be paid, but would also maintain the basic rights of children, such as education and childhood. One of the main concerns of legalizing child labor would be the potential loss of childhood. Childhood, however, is easily stripped away at the hand of poverty. In the Philippines’ squatter areas, children would be obliged to go to school and work rather than play after school. With the acceptance of child labor, children would have a better opportunity to live a comfortable life than they would have in the face of poverty.
Veronika's Opinion
Child labor is a choice children make when they don’t have any other option to achieve a better livelihood.
Written by veronika millena, dharshini muthukumaran / edited by mia grace, gunkriti kaur, cindy zhang / layout by helen bian
By legalizing child labor, individuals would understand more deeply how poverty affects children as much as it affects adults. Child labor should be presented as a choice rather than a forced act because a forced act is exploitation. Even if there is already child work, children who opt for child labor should still have the security and safety that all other individuals whom do labor have. This is why child labor should be legalized - not as exploitation but as legitimate work.
45
The quote, “Please, sir, I want some more” from Oliver Twist became a famous adage to express the brutalities of child labor. The author, Charles Dickens, wrote many fictional stories influenced by his own malevolent experience with child labor, demonstrating the horrors of this infraction during the Industrial Revolution. Even though it has been years since the Industrial Revolution, child labor still exists today, despite the many reforms and awareness. Child labor is not justifiable because it is extremely detrimental to a child’s mental and physical growth since the child is deprived of their proper education.
Even though child labor does provide a source of income, it often strips any prospect of education from the youth involved. A child’s future is heavily influenced by the education that they receive; however, if the child gets no education and is forced to work, how will they have valuable opportunities to grow financially and professionally? The child will have no exposure to working in a professional environment, and they will be subject to the path of poverty for generations without any growth economically.
IES TO LEGALIZE CHILD ILABOR? ES TO LEGALIZE CHILD LABOR?
Child labor limits the opportunities for the child, leading to situations where they are subject to abuse and exploitation. Even if child labor is a choice presented to children, it indirectly divests them away from the likelihood of a proper education, where they are incapable of having a childhood. Hence, child labor should not be legalized, and efforts should be made to eliminate this atrocity as much as possible around the world.
46
Furthermore, child labor is detrimental to the psychological and physical development of a child, where an important factor of growth is being stripped away: childhood. According to “Child labor still with us after all these years” by P J Landrigan and J B McCammon, “...child labor accounts for...200,000 injuries, thousands of cases of permanent disability, and more than 70 deaths each year.” Because many child laborers are subjected to dangerous tasks such as manufacturing, mining, etc., getting injured is likely a probability that is bound to happen, especially considering their inexperience and physical limitations for these jobs. Furthermore, child laborers often experience isolation and depression as they are being pressured financially and lack an environment that cultivates development with peers with a growth mindset. This often sets the child apart, affecting their social and psychological development.

who have had breast cancer often benefit from breast reconstruction.
The last twenty years have seen a dramatic uptick in women who have had “work done”, or a cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery can be defined as “an operation, or invasive medical procedure used to change one’s physical appearance for cosmetic rather than medical reasons”. Liposuction and facelifts are all the rage. Some have hailed this trend as vain and those who participate, self obsessed. Others have hailed it as empowering for women. It's unlikely that there will ever be a clear right and wrong. It might be more accurate to say that the reasons for plastic surgery will always be complicated and complex.

This brand of feminism has become increasingly popular, but it has also been heavily criticized. When it comes to choice feminism and cosmetic
Cosmetic Surgery is all the rage, is it harmful or helpful?
Defenders of cosmetic surgery argue that it is liberating for a woman to have that control over her own body that if it is making you feel better when you look in the mirror, then it is a positive thing. In this way, is cosmetic surgery really all that different from wearing makeup?
Those who feel that cosmetic surgery is empowering solely because it is a woman’s choice could be classified as choice feminists. Choice feminism hinges on the belief that the individual choices of a woman are inherently feminist. As well as the concept that women's liberation is based on a woman always having the autonomy to choose. By this logic, cosmetic surgery is inherently liberating for women because it is their choice whether or not to have a procedure.
Proponents of cosmetic surgery point out its many benefits. Facial feminization surgery, a treatment sometimes classified as cosmetic, can help transgender women feel more comfortable in their own bodies and help with gender dysphoria. Those
When considering cosmetic surgery, it's vital to consider all sides. The concept that a procedure can make you feel more confident and that there are harmful outside pressures that make women feel as though they need to undergo a procedure in no way contradict one another, both are warranted.
To summarize, the issue of plastic surgery isn't black and white, it's important to respect women who do

undergo cosmetic surgery and it is possible to do so while also examining the systems at play that often pressure women into having said operations.
surgery, its important to note that a women’s choice to undergo a procedure doesn’t exist in a vacuum. When you exist in a world where you are constantly expected to conform to eurocentric beauty standards, is it purely an individual’s choice when they do? One author explains it well, “Women's individual actions don't exist in a void, and praising a woman for making a singular choice that enforces racist patriarchal standards and actively hurts intersectional demographics like women of color can't be deemed ‘feminist’”.

I can't live without my planner because I can't remember my assignments. I really wish a life skills class was offered where students can learn how to pay taxes, write a resume, or learn how to be in interviews
I wish they offered business as a subject in high school. Business classes go over financial necessities, taxes, etc. so students can learn it from a younger age
My planner, hands down! It’s so useful to plan out long term assignments/study plans for tests. I think it’d be cool to have an archaeology class with hands-on activities like museum visits, digs, etc to learn more about our collective past and humanity.
I can't live without paper because I use it for everything. I wish we had a class called like "real world prep " where they taught you how to navigate the real world (handle money, cook food, not be scammed by people LMAO, etc.) & more social science classes because those are my favorite.
