inally been releas come a slew of c g p ns. The album, Taylor Swift’s 10th in 16 years, is perhaps one of the most polarizing she has ever released. Exasperation, surprise, disappointment, elation–any reaction to the so-called “13 sleepless nights” of the original tracks is bound to fester.
Lavender Haze - The excitement buzzing through me as I heard Taylor whisper, “meet me at midnight” could have probably rivaled an electric shock, but quickly faded as I continued to listen. It feels very much like 2017’s Reputation. This song was not as striking as an album’s first track should be, in my opinion. Regardless, it’s not a ‘skip' for me.
Maroon - I really liked this one the first time I listened, and while it’s not my favorite anymore, several aspects have stuck with me a week or so later. Swift’s lower register shines through, along with the story of love and loss the song tells.
Anti-Hero - Although close examination of the lyrics in “Anti-Hero” has conjured up a few eye-rolls (“It’s me” Pause. “Hi!”), Swift's song-writing talent truly shines through in one of my favorite tracks off of Midnights. She paints pictures of feeling visibly awkward and out of place with your friends, emotions flooding through you as soon as you’re alone with your thoughts alongside the realization that the person you love may not be a permanent figure in your life. Personally, I’m looking forward to crying under a blanket in my room to this one.
Snow on the Beach (ft. Lana Del Rey)
- The amount someone enjoys this song seems to be determined by their opinion of Lana Del Rey—a polarizing singer to out-polarize the rest of them. Although some say they can hear her voice as background vocals, I cannot say that I am able to; that’s about it for her feature. However, contrary to popular belief, I loved this song. During our 9pm listening party, my friend said the song felt like a hug, and I couldn’t agree more.
You’re on Your Own, Kid - Two words: absolutely heartbreaking. This song is another one of the internet’s adoptees, with high school seniors especially relating to the feeling of leaving everything they’ve ever known as they surge towards the independence of adulthood.
“Everything you lose is a step you take,” Swift reminds us. “You’ve got no reason to be afraid.”
7
Midnight Rain - This song feels especially forgettable—in fact, about 30 seconds after listening, I could not recall the instrumentals or melody in the slightest. It’s not a bad song by any means, just very overproduced. However, I did appreciate the nod to "august” from 2020’s folklore.
Question…? - Honestly, I’m not sure what positive remarks I can make about this one. The lyrics, “good girl, sad boy” make me feel like I’m watching a rendition of Twilight based entirely off of poorly drawn fan art by an artist who never even watched the original films.
Vigilante Sh*t - Reputation comes back with an edge in this red lipstick flaunting battle cry. This song wasn’t my favorite off the album, but I can definitely see it being enjoyed if you’re in a particularly vengeful mood.
Bejeweled - This is a song that requires multiple listens to truly get stuck in your head. It feels like Lover with a synth kick, and although some lyrics feel somewhat corny, many have speculated on the inspiration for “I made you my world / Have you heard / I can reclaim the land.”
Labyrinth - I was expecting more profound lyrics for such a complex topic, butnothingfromthistrackstood outtome.Notabadsongpersay, but notanyone’sfavorite.
Karma- “Karma” is perhaps one of the most controversial tracks on the album, boastingbothadoringfansand
pp g a lovechild of Reputation and Lover, but again, some of the lyrics read slightly shallow: “Sweet like honey, karma is a cat / Purring in my lap ‘cause it loves me.”
Sweet Nothing - This song feels like an explicit nod to the glittering, sweetest tracks of Lover. While most of Swift’s love songs are built around anger and resentment, “Sweet Nothing” is a soft lullaby to her lover.
Mastermind - This final track of Midnights plays into what the arts and entertainment magazines have dubbed Taylor Swift to be for more than a decade: a mastermind. I have no complaints about this one–it’s a strategic finale of an album that mostly plays it safe.

Replacing Boris Joh Conservative Prime 6th, shortly resignin
Replacing Boris Johnson, Liz Truss was elected Conservative Prime Minister of the UK on September 6th, shortly resigning within a month and a half. Already facing profound disapproval from the British public, the first domino fell on September 23rd.
Kwasi Kwarteng, the finance minister of Liz Truss, publicly and abruptly revealed Liz Truss’s changes to the country’s economic strategy. The plan to cut taxes for large corporations and high earners significantly decreased the value of the British pound. Interest rates and mortgage costs rose alongside inflation; the British working class who voted for the Conservative Party, at this point, felt betrayed. The flames were further fanned through Truss’ avoidance of public appearances.

Within a week, Truss faced a mass resignation of half of her most senior ministers, with some being intentionally let go– this included Kwarteng, who was fired and replaced with Jeremy Hunt. Jason Stein, another member of the Conservative Party, was also suspended for criticising other Conservative lawmakers to reporters.

The Labour Party, in sition to the Conservative Party, orth a motion to ban fracking, a pressure intrusive process to ct natural gas through the use of aulics. Charles Walker, her Conservative Party member side Truss, criticized Truss’s rship as well as other party bers’ previous support for it, ibing the voting situation as an lute disgrace” on live television. gh a later report concluded there no “bullying” regarding the event, icism of the situation remains.
n post-Truss, the Conservative ’s troubles have not ended. Rishi k, the current Prime Minister of the “regrets making Williamson a ter” under the circumstances after s of bullying were revealed. A er defence secretary had reported mson for comments such as, “slit
your throat” or “jump out of the window.” This pattern repeats in his interactions with other MPs (members of Parliament) and civil servants, and aligns with his two other dissolutions from ministerial roles over the past four years. Though Gabin Williamson, a former minister, denies any involvement in such behaviour, the Prime Minister’s “poor judgement” had faced criticism from the Labour Party. Just weeks prior, Suella Braverman faced forced resignation for using her personal email for communicating official documents–a violation of ministerial rules. Under Sunak, however, she was reassigned as home secretary.
Liz Truss was elected not as a Prime Minister, but rather as the leader of the Conservative Party. From facing public scrutiny from the general population for favouring a certain financial agenda, to the public criticism and plans for replacement from fellow Tories (supporters of the Conservative Party), the short lived presidency of Liz Truss not only led to her political death, but also a dent in reputation for the Conservative Party, setting a precedent for future decisions.
KANYE WEST ANTISEMITISM
I’m sure by now you’ve seen TikToks, Instagram posts, and tweets about Kanye West’s antisemitic remarks and his threats of violence against the Jewish community. By the time this article is finalized and published, it's likely that he will have said more harmful and hurtful statements about Jewish people. My aim with this article is not to chronicle these harmful remarks, but to focus more on the proactive steps people can take to change this rhetoric and help fight antisemitism.
I myself am not Jewish, so I reached out to Liora Berkstein to offer some insight into the situation. Liora is the southern California high school regional manager at StandWithUs, an organization that combats antisemitism.
Her approach to dealing with and combating antisemitism is through education, community building, and allyship with other groups. Liora writes: “Building bridges with multiple
communities is critical and we should support one another in the broader fight against hate. There are many ways to find common ground—for example white supremacists target not only Jews but also Latino, Black, Muslim, LGBTQ, and other communities.” Images might come to mind of the Rabbis who participated in the March on Washington, who understood the common struggle between African Americans and Jewish people in the fight for equality.
The importance she places on education makes sense; how do you fight intolerance when you cannot recognize it? To educate yourself on antisemitism and the history of Jewish oppression, Berkstein suggests this pamphlet about Jewish heritage as well as visiting the online Holocaust Education Center, which can be found here. Berkstein also mentions the importance of recognizing the different forms that antisemitism takes, saying: “It’s important to understand how

enemies. During this time, it's important to continue to listen and uplift Jewish voices and understand that the only people who get to define what is antisemitic is Jewish people themselves.
Yair Rosenburg, a writer for The Atlantic, sums up what can be done:
antisemitism–the ideas that he parrots from extremists will still continue to slip into all sorts of media. This only further demonstrates how vital education is to counter antisemitism. Fighting antisemitism isn’t as simple as not letting certain people on a platform it needs to go deeper than that.

/* The Psychology
Plainly put, UX (User Experience) designers utilize our knowledge of psychology to garner traction to their websites
and products.
One can even say it’s a form of marketing. Designers consider the interactive and visual design alongside information presentation, while the consumer considers maximum efficiency, ease, and utility of the design. The study of psychology enables the analysis of behaviors we see from consumers online to track the designs that bring clicks and what designs discourage them.
The interdisciplinary study of cognitive science, an overlap of psychology, linguistics, neuroscience, anthropology, philosophy, and Artificial Intelligence, further allows us to analyze the relationships between us, as people, and technology through our cognitive functions. The minute, automatic processes occuring in our brains as we browse the web, can, in fact, be manipulated; it’s a wonder of humanity, and it’s also terrifying. In short - human brains are brilliant enough to use their own prejudices, thought patterns, and preferences to find the simplest procedure.
In a 2012 study, it was found that upon entering a website, people have already reacted to the aesthetics of the page they’ve seen within 17 to 50 milliseconds. Aside from the basics of color theory, there are plenty of more named theories that formulate human reactions and behavioral patterns. To name a few:
The Familiarity Principle: the more familiar something is, the more prone we are to liking it. This is why social media algorithms recommend familiar yet new information on your explore pages.
The Zeigarnik Effect: incomplete or interrupted tasks will occupy our minds and cause us stress. When you make a new profile and might not want to add a profile picture, you may cave anyway, because the “profile progress” bar is incomplete, and that bugs you.
Scarcity: limited supply promotes higher interest. Why else do salesmen paste “limited time only!” stickers on their products?
Social Proofing: the behavior of others helps guide our decisions. When you scroll down when online shopping, you’ll see the heading “Others have also bought:” to encourage your need for consumption.
17
y of UX Design */
Hick’s Law: the more options, the more time it takes for one to make a decision. This is why you’ll have relatively few options when doing a multiple choice survey, for example. Priming: giving direct or indirect signals to prepare for future exposure to something else. Notifications, for example, prime you for what the app is prompting you to do. Oftentimes, when you leave an application, you might also read “See you later!”, or “Log back in?” after logging out.
As a designer, what responsibility do you take to ensure your website guarantees consumers the best experience possible? Do you ask yourself what the consumer is expecting to see, or what they aren’t expecting to see? Are you considering Emotional Contagion, the methods you can implement to subconsciously influence the emotions of the consumer? Is the organization of the website direct, clear, and straightforward to use?
When you compare interfaces like Instagram, for example, to Google Docs, you’ll be able to get a more clear look at how UX Design works. The several features of Instagram, such as the chats option, the camera, and the
explore page on the toolbar at the bottom, enhance the main social stream, which supports the purpose of the app. Enough categorically organized options are made available for consumer use, yet none command attention.
In contrast, Google Docs has a relatively simple interface, speaking to its professional purpose. There is considerably less customizability, and certain features can be hidden or brought back. Google Docs further ensures both minimal distractions and maximum ease of use: you can work without adverts or pop-up interruptions and still freely take advantage of keyboard shortcuts for maximized productivity and efficiency.
While Google Docs was created as a cloud-based program for professionals and students, Instagram is a social media application catered to any and all users. Its sole objective is to be as addictive as possible: it makes saving posts easy, for example, but viewing those posts less easy, so you can continue to find things to view. While Instagram exploits your psychological weaknesses, Google Docs enhances your experience without drawing you in, allowing your brain to do the work for you instead of the opposite.

Tips on How to Mak Tips on How to Mak Tips on How to Mak
In an increasingly competitive world with cutting edge technology and unique innovative solutions, designers must consistently strive to prove their talent and skill. The best way to do this is through building a design portfolio. Whether applying for college, an internship, or a job, it is essential to have a good design portfolio.
1. Focus on the process more than the result. In design careers, especially product design and architecture, people want to know how you got your result, rather than the fine details of your finished product. People want to see your craftsmanship when it comes to sketching, your creativity in generating concept ideas, and your ability to adapt and improve your final product.
2. Document the process well. Do not just show pictures of your final result. Show your process, successes, failures, adaptations, construction, and the final result. Take photos and videos (maybe even a time-lapse) of your process.
Document the materials you are using. Keep a sketchbook - it represents how you transformed the ideas in your head to a real world solution.
3. Showcase your ability to solve problems. Design is a field specifically directed towards real-world applications. Therefore, your design portfolio should show how you used your creative abilities and design skills to solve a real challenge.
4. Keep your work clear and easy to understand. Having a lot of sketches does not necessarily mean it needs to be messy. The viewer should be able to clearly understand what is being presented to them. Don’t be afraid to add notes!
5. Go for variety. Try not to show multiple pieces that are exactly the same. Show variety in your concepts and techniques, as well as the problems you choose to solve.
6. Research. Make sure you do thorough research before you jump into a portfolio. Research what types of projects your prospective audience likes to see. Look into problems you are passionate about. Conduct interviews and brainstorm solutions.
19
ke a Design Portfolio e a Design Portfolio e a Design Portfolio
Ask your design teachers and professionals for advice and feedbackyou’d be surprised at how much they have to offer! Research effective styles in which you can present your portfolio; consider elements like typography, color, font, layout, length, etc. Keep a notebook to record what you find, and refer to your notes when building your portfolio.
7. Choose quality over quantity. Make sure that you showcase your ability to the highest extent, even if it means only selecting a few quality projects. Do not overload your portfolio with projects that do not have a significant meaning.
8. Look for opportunities in and out of school. Use your design projects from class as examples. Reach beyond your school for opportunities. Look for summer programs, workshops, volunteer opportunities, internships, prospective concepts for businesses, and more.
9. Ask for feedback. Ask teachers, professionals, and fellow designers to critique your work. Viewing your work from a fresh perspective helps you find improvements that you may not
have seen before. Also look for local conferences or portfolio workshops.
No matter what you are trying to accomplish, do not be intimidated to approach your portfolio. Approach this as a project that shows your love for design rather than a daunting task that you are obligated to accomplish. The roadmap to build a Design Portfolio is simple:
Research
Choose your projects
Document the process well, put your projects together
Compile your best projects to create a design portfolio (there are online platforms available to help you accomplish these)
If you follow these steps and tips, you are bound to accomplish your goals.

WHATAREFAMILYGENEALOGY TESTINGSERVICES?
Genealogy is defined as the study and tracing of lines of descent. Family genealogy is tracing the lines of descent of an individual in relation to their ancestors and family trees. In popular services that offer family genealogy testing, not only can an individual obtain more information about their ethnicity, but also about their family’s. Famous companies such as 23andMe, FamilySearch, and Ancestry are the faces of modern family genealogy testing. Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, discovered her Nigerian roots through genealogy testing. This proves that family genealogy testing is a common resort to people who want to find out their ancestry. Genealogy testing expands to services more than relating to ancestry, but also is used in modern forensics and more horizons.
Once separated children from their biological families are rekindled using these websites. Megan Kennedy, a 37year-old woman living in the United States, reunited with her biological mother living in Glasgow, through the website of Ancestry just through her birth certificate which she obtained on her 18th birthday. This is one of the instances where reconnection of separated families is made possible through these services.
23
HOWDOTHESESERVICESWORK?
These services share a similar process from obtaining DNA samples to pushing out reports. According to 23andMe, the process involving the customer consists of 3 simple steps. They take pride in their “No blood. No needles. Just a simple saliva sample” theme, so the customer is supposed to order a membership kit and spit on a sample tube. This tube will then be sent back to the company’s laboratory and will be examined using a custom version of the Illumina Global Screening Array. This is a leading technology that identifies specific genetic variants to give information about one’s health and ancestry. The 23andMe test uses a qualitative genotyping method of 6 variants in 3 genes.
Modern family genealogy testing is very prone to errors and it does not deliver exact results. The results can be manipulated based on factors that don’t directly impact a person’s DNA but factors that are company based. These can include what type of person (ethnicity, race) they have the most genetic information on, or the information they hold in their databases. Not only that, but their DNA tests and reports are also based on the answers of individuals to surveys prior to their samples being sent to a lab. This manifests a circular method that doesn't actually deliver 100% genuine results for every customer.
WHYARETHESESOHIGH INDEMAND?
These types of tests are very high in demand both by professionals and nonprofessionals. Non-professionals use this for content, for fun, or for some others- purely to reconnect with their lost relatives. Non-professionals are fascinated with where they come from, or for some people, it is interesting whether to say that a well-known company is wrong. Again, the margin for error with this field is very prevalent with its development. While, professionals like medics, forensic scientists and the like use these trivial sites to trace down what information they need to acquire. A famous example would be the Golden State serial killer who was apprehended through tracking down his third and fourth cousins with the use of GEDMatch. This is a genealogy test resource used by the police to find relatives of suspects.

Acne can be split into two different categories- inflammatory and noninflammatory Non-inflammatory acne includes whiteheads and blackheads. Scientifically known as comedones, whiteheads are bumps that have a white, circular center, with an outline based on one’s skin tone. They usually don’t cause scarring, but it’s best to not pick at them The sebaceous gland is meant to lubricate the skin and hair follicles by producing sebum, an oily material secreted onto the skin. Whiteheads form when sebum production is increased, causing tiny hair follicles on the face of the skin to be inflamed. Blackheads are known as open comedones. They are like small, dark colored bumps which do not affect the surrounding skin. Blackheads are merely opened whiteheads, whose contents have darkened due to exposure to air (MedicalNewsToday, n.d).
Inflammatory acne can be mild or severe Mild forms of inflammatory
acne include papules and pustules. Papules appear small, solid, and tender, but don’t have any color. The surrounding skin will be inflamed, and therefore look red. Papules are caused by excess oil and bacteria lying on the face They can also be the result of hormone imbalances Pustule is the scientific name for a typical pimple. They are larger than papules and are filled with white or yellow pus that contains immune cells and bacterial cells Pustules appear for the same reasons as papules, but can also come from allergic reactions to food or environmental allergens. Fun fact: Breakouts can result from certain food intolerances, like dairy or gluten. Thus, testing for food allergies may possibly prevent breakouts
Severe forms of inflammatory acne are nodules and cysts. Nodules have no visible head, but they are hard, inflamed lumps deep in the skin (MedicalNewsToday, n d) Nodules develop as clogged pores become infected, causing swelling under the skin. Nodules are more severe than they look, so we should be careful. Finally, cysts are painful lumps that are present deep in the skin Cysts are
25
soft and filled with pus. If not treated properly, they could lead to acne scarring. Cysts are developed if the sebaceous gland is damaged or blocked, leaving bacterial cells under the skin.
Here’s a rundown of ingredients that treat each type of acne. Check for these ingredients in trusted skincare brands

In addition, acne on different parts of the face has different causes and treatments:
Chin or jawline acne results mainly from hormonal fluctuations, or a disruption in the endocrine system. Eating a balanced diet and drinking enough water decreases acne in this area.
Lastly, with proper help and care, even the worst of acne can turn into clear skin Acne doesn’t necessarily mean unhealthy skin; in adolescence, it’s normal due to hormonal change.. The journey to combating acne requires patience and persistence.

IS THANKSGIVING RACIST? IS THANKSGIVING RACIST? IS THANKSGIVING RACIST?
Yes, thanksgiving is a racist holiday. The day itself marks a land deal made between Native Americans and the colonists that resulted in many casualties, and generally marks a very tragic day for natives. Contrary to what kids are taught at a young age regarding the pilgrims and natives sharing a meal together, the story differs quite largely. While the intent behind the holiday may be positive it raises the question of the need to celebrate a tragic day for the sole purpose of being grateful. Can we not be grateful on any other day of the year? Most importantly by celebrating are we promoting a false narrative, further oppressing Native Americans and burying their story/history further. Kids are taught to celebrate this holiday from a young age in school, for example by making and wearing headbands with feathers. However such activities are examples of native stereotypes we are only reinforcing to new generations.
