About AIAS Our campus
The study environment
The Institute is housed within modern, student friendly facilities. All classrooms are spacious and air-conditioned. Facilities include outdoor recreation areas, kitchen facilities, library services, high speed internet access and computers, and teaching equipment that is state-of-theart. Indeed, the Institute prides itself in its provision of quality, affordable education services, in a friendly, professional and caring environment.
The AIAS timetable requires students to be in class Monday to Friday. Classes run in the following time periods: Session A 8:30am – 11:30am Session B 12.00 noon – 3.00pm Session C 3.00pm – 6.00pm
Accommodation A range of homestay and lodge accommodation options are available ranging from AU$150-300 per week. Please contact us to arrange accommodation.
Evening Session 6.00pm – 9.00pm Students generally have two classes per day and five to six classes per week. Students do not select class times; they are allocated to classes as the College timetable requires.

Students can access all clinic and salon services for a discounted cost. Clinics are available by appointment only to the general public, and are staffed by our teaching staff who are qualified practitioners in their disciplines. Campus based clinics and salons provide our students with a practical handson approach to develop real-world experience in a supervised environment. Gymnasium The College hosts a fully equipped gymnasium. Students can also use the gym facilities at a discounted price.

Hairdressing The AIAS hairdressing courses are designed to provide you with the specialist knowledge and skills to function within the operations of a hairdressing salon. Students have the option of advancing their practical hairdressing skills. Add additional skills from within the beauty sector to further diversify and provide a range of options to your clients, or combine management principles with the skills already acquired from your hairdressing experiences. The AIAS uses only high quality L’Oréal Professionnel products in its salon and classes. Graduates will be “job ready” to enter the hairdressing industry as a qualified hairdresser with specialised skills in: • • • •

Hospitality This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent as a manager or supervisor in any hospitality functional area. Students are trained in a theoretical knowledge base and able to use specialised, managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work and/or the work of their team.
Students are exposed to all these aspects on the Diploma level course.
Graduates secure employment in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, catering operations, motels, clubs, hotels, cafes and coffee shops.
Students completing these courses can work as pastry chefs or in retail baking.

Massage Today’s busy lifestyles means many people are suffering from work related stress and massage therapy is very beneficial to people leading stressful lives. Massage not only aids with mental relaxation but will work on the physical symptoms of back and neck pain that come from sitting for an extended period of time at a desk or from physical labour. Demand for professionals qualified in massage therapy increases all the time. Massage therapists work in healing centres, at home or in their own clinic, hospitals, in the workplace, leisure centres, beauty salons, spas and health retreats.
Some massage concentrates more on relaxing the client whilst others will work more deeply at repairing damaged muscle tissue. Natural Medicine Any therapy that relies on the body’s own healing powers may be considered natural medicine or naturopathy. The remedies available to practitioners can include herbal remedies, diet and water therapies. Naturopathic principles are based on treating each person as an individual and treating the whole person, not just the affected area. Graduates may practise in their own clinic or may work in hospitals, clinics or as health educators. Students planning to practice should ensure they complete a course which is certified by the appropriate professional association. The career outlook for alternative health care providers is very strong. The need for natural therapy practitioners expands in conjunction with mainstream health care needs.
The different types of natural health medicine to consider include: • Acupuncture: stimulation at precise acupuncture points • Naturopathy: includes herbal medicine, nutritional advice, lifestyle advice and hydrotherapy (water based therapy) • Nutrition: reviewing dietary intake and lifestyle to determine any imbalances • Aromatherapy: uses naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants. Professional Services The health and related services areas are some of the fastest growing in Australia and in most developed countries. As the population ages and the demand for allied health services increases, so too does demand for appropriately professionals assistants and carers.
The AIAS qualifications cover therapeutic and program-related support to allied health professionals. Graduates will be able to identify client circumstances that need additional input from the allied health professional and assist with development of appropriate programs.
Allied health professions require expertise in many skills. Depending on the profession, these may include medical terminology, basics of medical law and ethics, understanding of human relations, interpersonal communication skills, counselling skills, computer literacy and ability to document healthcare information.

English language English language preparation programs
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
Students whose first language is not English but who already have a good intermediate level of English may undertake an AIAS English entry test and, if successful, proceed immediately to the relevant academic course of their choice. Students who do not have a sufficient level of language may enrol in one of our English language academic preparation programs. AIAS preparation courses are delivered by Embassy CES English language training centres in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. www.embassyces.com
EAP is recommended for students who do not yet have the required level of English to enter AIAS. This course is delivered in 10, 20 and 30 week terms and there are start dates every 5 weeks. To enter at Stage 1, students need a minimum IELTS level of 4.5. Students should note that IELTS is the only acceptable language test for students from some countries. Check with AIAS to determine if you require an IELTS score. Applicants may be eligible for a visa to Australia if they do not meet the above requirements if their vocational education and training program is packaged with appropriate preparatory English study, such as that delivered by Embassy.

Mature Age Entry
Skills Recognition
To apply for Mature Age Entry you must be at least 20 years old. Past academic or work experience is not required, however if you plan to progress to university you must meet university matriculation requirements. International students must still demonstrate their English proficiency.
If you have already taken some courses somewhere else or have work experience which may be directly relevant to your course, you may apply to have this exempt you from some AIAS subjects. We require that you apply for skills recognition before commencing your studies. Details of the application process are on our website.
Semester information AIAS operates a semester model. Semesters are generally 14 weeks including the examination period. Students can commence study in any semester. The Summer School semester is optional for international students.
