Arrival in California The NJ District met at Newark Airport around 4:45 AM to board our flight to California. Our flight departured around 7AM and arrived in California around 9AM (California time).

We then collected our luggages and took shuttles to our hotels.

After checking into our hotels and resting for a while, we walked to Fire+Ice Grill & Bar at Anaheim GardenWalk. After eating, we were given the chance to shop and roam around.

Disneyland California Adventure We spent the second day in California at Disneyland Adventure Park. We had amazing tour guides for a while and later broke up into groups. We met some Key Clubbers from the Georgia District.

By the end of the day, my group went on many rides, which included California Screamin’ Radiator Spring Racers, Soarin’ Over California, and Tower of Terror. We also danced to music by the amazing DJ Rabbit at the festive Mad T Party! Page 3

Tour Day On the third day in California, we went on a bus tour of Los Angeles, including Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier.

ICON 2014 The Key Club International Convention was a time well spent on making new friends, exploring new locations, and learning new lessons. For the New Jersey District, our journey to California started at the airport, and then with a five and a half hour flight later we landed in what most people would call paradise. We were lucky enough to fly out of New Jersey a few days before International Convention to take time to explore California and everything it had to offer, and also bond as a district. We had the opportunity to start off our International Convention with a gigantic meet and greet where we were able to trade pins and meet a substantial amount of people from around the world. Throughout the convention, we were able to intermingle with many different people from many different cultures from our own. During the convention, we were representing our state and our community. We also had the pleasure of representing one of our own members Nicole Lema, who was running for International Trustee.

ICON 2014 Continued….

We had the grand opportunity for more in depth workshops in which we could learn more about our duties as Key Clubbers and what we are accomplishing. International Convention is the place where the new Key Club International Board is elected and where major international bylaws and amendments are debated. We had the opportunity to listen to all of the candidates for the International Board during their caucusing speeches. The lucky few people from each school had the opportunity of representing their school during the House of Delegates sessions while we debated and some might say out right battled for changes within our bylaws. We also were the lucky few who were able to vote on who would fill the role of our next International Board. On our last day at ICON we attended the closing ceremony, where we rejoiced to hear that our very own Nicole Lema would in fact be representing us next year as one of our International Trustees. During ICON bigger districts such as California-Nevada-Hawaii could always be heard chanting and cheering on about their district, but when the New Jersey District heard that Nicole had won and was trustee, we were louder than ever chanting “NJ All Day”. We eventually settled down after our hands were hurting from clapping so hard and were able to finish the closing ceremony. ICON this year was a time that we will all cherish forever and never forget!

Disneyland and Departure to New Jersey On the seventh and final day in California, we spent the morning packing our luggages and storing them all in one suite and the rest of the day up to 7:30PM at Disneyland Park. We were able to walk through Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. We went on the Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride. In addition, the went through the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square which isn't as scary as it sounds. In the end, we absolutely loved Space Mountain. We went on it three times! We left our hotel around 9PM and took shuttles to LAX. Our flight took off around 11:30PM and arrived in New Jersey around 8AM due to the time difference. We were all pretty spent from walking all day at Disneyland and slept throughout the plane ride. Even though it was great to be back in New Jersey, we all missed California, who wouldn’t? We collected our bags from baggage claim, said our good-byes and went to our respective homes.
