THE MARRIAGE OF OLD METHODOLOGY WITH NEW INNOVATIONS Many years ago I visited the studio of Robert Klippel and became enthralled by the intensity of his small works. He worked with found objects such as typewriter and model aeroplane parts to enabled his small scale to evolve. Influenced by Klippel’s small sculptures, it became my ambition to one day revisit my early large sculptures but now on a smaller and more intimate scale. My work had developed from built objects produced in my studio. This resulted in works of a large and often monumental scale. The small works in this exhibition are studies based on these large sculptures I made around 1995. After relooking at these earlier works, I have further developed and changed them through two-dimensional drawings. Once I was happy with their new form I used a CAD program to model my original drawings and convert them into a digital format which can be viewed in 3-dimensions. This process allows me to reduce their scale and create a 3-D printed model of my original design, which is then cast in bronze. I have been attempting to develop small sculptures during my entire career and now, through new digital technology, it is becomes possible. Geoffrey Bartlett
