Mark Cuthbertson
Mark is a Victorian based artist living and working on Wathawurrung country, His current practice spans sculpture, visual arts and set design, with a focus on exploring metaphors of colonization and domestication within a broad national context. His artwork is a playful and thought provoking commentary on society, transforming the monotonous into something far more dynamic & challenging. His creative process involves deconstructing an idea to its simplest elements, repurposing and re-contextualizing basic & rudimentary materials. Stripping them to their core elements, he re-imagines their application and purpose, giving them new life & purpose.
Mark’s dedication to innovation in design work is gaining strong recognition through both public art commissions & private collections across the country. His recent focus has been on large-scale sculptures projects utilizing concrete as a primary design material.
Notable recent achievement include, successful public art commissions for the Marshall Train Station, Geelong City Council, Casey Council & the Smorgon private sculpture collection. His work have involved curatorial inclusion in the Montalto Sculpture prize, Lorne Sculpture Biennale, Wollongong sculpture award, BOAABiennale of Australian Art.
