WHAT IS ARCHITECTURE ? Architecture can be seen from various points of view and each architect could find different and new meanings for it. I will try to define it in two ways. One, the way I think architecture become to be these days and how I expect it to develop in the future, considering also the whole meaning of architecture since it`s birth to the present. The second way which I consider to describe in this short text, which is maybe more significantly from my prospective, it is what architecture means to me, how I see it. My personal believes about the architecture will be sustained by describing and referring to some of my own projects which will be presented on the next pages. WHAT ARCHITECTURE WAS, IS AND WILL BE ... Architecture is too complex to be defined in this short text but I will try to summerize it as well as I can. Architecture is a profound field, that intercalates, is influenced and depends of so many factors and parameters. People usually see it as a combination of art and engineering. In fact architecture is defined by a mixture between various professions, like art, engineering, philosophy, economics, finance, sociology and so on. Architecture was born as a result of needs. As agriculture was born to feed us, architecture also appeared with the purpose for our survival, to shelter and protect us. As time passed by, this motive has been altered, and this process was accelerated in the industrial era until our days. Today architecture is not only an instrument to satisfy our needs but also our desires. People`s needs became so pretentious so they cannot be fundamental needs anymore but more needs that are desired. And this we can find in the complexity of the contemporary architecture: the architectural programs and functions are more than ever, every building is made of tens of materials, there are a lot of regulations and rules. It is not necessarily a bad thing. Now architecture is not only a shelter, it is also art, feelings, technology, money, publicity, ecology, sustainability and further on. It become so complex that only one building is designed by specialists from a multitude of fields. Architecture is a melange of two types of factors. The physical, objective and natural ones, as resistence, stability, climate, and the spiritual, subjective and human ones, like art, creativity, religion. But architecture, as all the physical fields, is a double-edged sword, creates and destroys. So, one of the objectives should be creating an architecture that is efficient, eco friendly, sustainable and flexible, and also, in this way architecture may help conserve us and our planet. Architecture meanings changed so many times in our history, developing styles, programs, and will change as our society will evolve. There are some negative aspects in the present architecture. Architecture should not have only commercial purposes, architects should not compete to create icons. Architecture should not become one for all the countries, a global one. Maybe the architects and even more the society should understand and be aware of how this can effect our cities, our world and our life. The world is changing quickly and this effects the way architecture is made. Our life is too complex now and this can be found in all what surrounds us and it is reflected at the same time in architecture. A good question could be We need all this?. We need all this complexity? People need this complex life, because they created this world, even though they wanted it or not, and now they could not turn back but only go further and hope for the best. It is very difficult to guess how architecture will be in the future. But I think that our society will come up with a few plans to maintain our cities, especially the most crowed and pollute ones, to efficient our way of living, keeping our high level of comfort, but moderate it, so our world not get overwhelmed. WHAT ARCHITECTURE IS TO ME For me architecture is the most complex way of art. You can see it, touch it, smell it, hear it, even taste it. All our senses are perceptive to the space that surround us and every human created place has his unique atmosphere. When I travel to a city, first I try to feel it, to feel it with my heart and afterwards to understand it with my mind. I do know that architecture could not be only art and feelings, but this part intrigues me the most. When I create a project I try to see it as a poet sees a poem, as a painter sees a painting. I am passionate of almost all kind of arts, panting, sculpture, literature, cuisine, films, photography ... but I chose to present in this portfolio only architecture projects. And even though some of the projects are made in teamwork, all of them have a lot in common. In each project every element has it`s purpose. I never create something or make a decision without thinking why, everything has a reason. I try to imagine profound projects, conceive an atmosphere that can influence our state of mind in a good way. In all of them there is a layering which consists in overlapping more connotations, functional, aesthetical, philosophical and metaphorical. I try to bring together all this meanings in simple shapes, built with sincere materials, trying to accomplish complexity from simplicity. For me, as an architect, it is essential to understand the place in which will be located a project, to distinguish the specifics, the people, the culture, the tradition. I like to design new building projects as well restoration ones and I enjoy more ones that have little dimensions because as a project grows the subjective part of it diminishes. It is important to be satisfied, even proud of your work, not only to satisfy your client. In my opinion architecture should be honest, displaying his true building materials, should be humble, not trying to become an instrument of publicity, being transformed in a commercial object and the architect converting in a simple salesman. This could destroy good architecture. A great architect can be one who has the desire to learn trough all his career, who can listen to the others` arguments and ideas and collaborate with them. A good architect should be dedicated to his work and put it above his pride, to do a job to get it done right and perfect and not do it only to get money from it and to be famous. Only in this way his work can be named architecture, true architecture.

Espoo, Uusimaa, Finland 2015 - 4th year student housing Universitatea Politehnica Timisoara team - V. Dogar, A. Domokos, E. Ghinita, K. Kovacs prof. Gheorghe Breazu, prof. Claudiu Silvasan
This urban project is based on one of the sites of Europan 13, Espoo, but it did not participate to the competition due to the exclusive school purpose. The project consisted in accommodating student housing and other functions in the proximity of a protected natural area, a shore with unique species of birds and squirrels. Espoo is a city close to Helsinki and it`s higher education purpose is essential for the well function of the Finnish capital. The result was a combination between student housing and public functions. The functions with public destination are accommodated on a free ground floor and it`s organic terraces. Even though the project was trying to protect as much as possible the nature habitat because of the theme restriction is was very difficult. The architecture is typical to the Scandinavian one and the importance of the light and the materiality are defining the volumes in a very Finnish way. The shape and the directions are related to the context. The main idea of the project was to create interaction functions that will connect the people, especially the students, and in time to use this example to create network on a much bigger scale with similar principles. Espoo is the perfect place if you want to live in an interconnected network of people, activities, culture, technology and nature. Thus the project creates a node in an open network of residents, companies and communities. Everyone will be a part of it, science and research organizations, companies, cultural and sports organizations, city employees, residents and students.

FOREST HOUSE IN NADAS
LOCATION YEAR FUNCTION CONTEXT TYPE COORD.
Nadăs, Timis County, Romania 2012 - 2nd year house Universtitate Politehnica Timisoara individual prof. Branea Ana Maria, prof. Claudiu Toma
An attempt to revive an abandoned village with new housing. Designed for a young family with a baby on the way and with artistic hobbies, like music, gastronomy and gardening, the house is trying to tell the story of the village. The villagers cut all the forests around the locality and because of their ignorance in their acts after years a huge flood came down and almost all of them where constrained to leave. They did not return but the remaining ones are trying to regenerate the lost village. In the plan, the house represents a reinterpretation of a traditional Romanian house combined with the new needs of contemporary living. In the same time the roof is also a reinterpretation of a traditional roof. The exterior refers to natural elements, to an abstract forest, through the openings, structural linear elements and materiality. The interior is forest like, the light, the shadows and the materials create a natural atmosphere. In exterior, a tree, existing on site before the house, influences the form of the building and introduces an intimate outside place. The spaces with public character are placed on the ground floor and are receiving a good quantity of natural light and the private ones are placed on the first floor and are being less lighted but in a more subtle and sublime way that reflects the filtered light as like through the tree leaves. Even thought the idea to recreate a lost forest is just symbolic and only some trees will be plant due to the project execution in the proximity of the house, it is considered that as time will pass by both people and nature will again cohabitate in this forgotten place.

CHALET IN MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO
LOCATION YEAR FUNCTION CONTEXT TYPE COORD.
Madonna di Campiglio, Trentino Alto-Adige, Italy 2015 - 5th year chalet Universita degli Studi di Trento team - Ambra Aliraj, Chiara Rigagnoli, Angela Taufer prof. Antonio Lamanna
Trentino Alto-Adige is an alpine Italian region well known for it`s ski resorts, winter sports and the passion for them and for very beautiful and spectacular mountain landscapes. The project is located in one of the most important winter resorts, Madonna di Campiglio, that also accommodates international alpine ski competitions, and it is situated at the end of the `funivia`. The project represents a conversion of an existent chalet, of which only the underground is kept. The existent traditional chalet is supposed to be replaced because of the irremediable functional problems. The new chalet will accommodate rooms for tourists and for staff, a restaurant, a self-service with a bar, an another bar on the first floor terrace and a relaxing terrace on the ground floor level. The shape is an interpretation of the shelter and suggests the human`s primordial need of protection. The views are an essential part and the volumes are taking shape recording to them, the building and the terraces are oriented to the valley and the mountains. The composition is compound of simple volumes and suggests the concept and creates complex interior and exterior relations. The volumes that are for public use are transparent and the ones that are used for the private activities have an opaque character. The used materials are according to the tradition, in which the wood was the main material in the construction of the houses and the chalets, but this time is put in work in a contemporary way and supported by a steel structure.

ACADEMIC LIBRARY FOR UMFVBT
LOCATION YEAR FUNCTION CONTEXT TYPE COORD.
Timisoara, Timis County, Romania 2016-2017 - 6th year academic Universitatea Politehnica Timisoara individual - diploma prof. Marius Harta
One of the most important instruments for the higher education is the library. Even thought in these days a library means much more than used to mean in the past, this program is essential as always. The project tries to fulfill all the needs and the desires of the student community and it has not only educational but, also social and interactional purposes. The project concentrates to the meaning of what a contemporary university should be so the new volumes and functions inserted in the campus have bigger objectives, not only to eliminate the existing problems. The library is a shelter for the books and also a shelter of the study and the interaction between the users. One of the most important concerns is the possibility of changing. The project has to react to the future changes of the community needs therefore all the spaces have to be as much as flexible. The furniture layouts, the space dimensions, even the functions have to be adaptable so the library can react and respond to the community. The new functions are interconnected to the existing ones so the campus can operate as one unitary ensemble. The ground floor is constituted of interior and exterior spaces dedicated to the entire campus and the superior floors have more restrictive and private use. The spaces are very diverse so they can satisfy all the needs. The main important pieces within the project are the shell that enwraps the volumes, the courtyard with the tree and the stairs with the cubicles around it. These elements show the philosophy and the concept of the project and have functional, aesthetical and metaphorical meanings.

RESTORATION OF SANTA MARIA CONVENT
LOCATION YEAR FUNCTION CONTEXT TYPE COORD.
Cividale del Friuli, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy 2016 - 5 th year museum Universita degli Studi di Trento team - Zhiqiang Chen, Elisa Fratton, Bogdan Tudor prof. Alessandra Quendolo
The restoration and conservation project is placed in one of the most significantly sites of Longobard culture, Cividale del Friuli, a little city that is alike a museum, a seen one and also an unseen one. The Santa Maria convent is a construction that suffered numerous modifications during time from Romans time to 21th century. This project is referred only to the 17th century wing. The site is near the Tempietto, maybe the most important Longobard piece in the world. The wing, now without a functional purpose, will have the function of museum and will accommodate the removed fresco from Tempietto. But the importance of these spaces is based more on the understanding of the cultural heritage, the several stages that overlapped in time due to the occupation of different civilizations. The restoration is made in the typical Italian style in which the importance of the ‘macchia’ and the historical fazes are emphasized and showed to the people. In this way the constructions and the cities narrate their past. Nothing important is erased or covered and the architecture is sincere and the new enhances the existent and does not harm it. The new is thought like a furniture that can be removed if it is necessary and the interior space can be reconfigured. This temporary character displays the enormous importance of the existent in comparison with the new elements. The added architecture is very simple and humble and is relating with the existent. The concept is also to create a route that will highlight the historical fazes, that almost speaks for himself without any other helping instruments.
