WHAT An archeological approach in a fast-approaching concrete jungle, with an aim to recreate a scape - a stage for social sustainability and local responsibility. To define a feeiling of unity and collectiveness despite a changing demogrphic and building topology, and to create a building which is responsive to the appreance of events. an oscillating construction. THE LOCATTION A vertical layering - from the ulterior subterrania - to the accessible rooftop. Taking in use the bare concrete walls framing the site, hereby creating a softer transit between the public and the private construction. The hybrid added to the site takes useage of the areas with the least amount of seen interaction, to emphasise the natural flow already present. It aims to create a connections and a fluent transtition between the previous semi-public sphere - the rooftops, and public -streetlevel through the usage of the exterial of the private dwellings to create the accessibility. The hybrid connects both sides of the site through placement of programs creating connections through flow inbetween, as vell as the visuals. The spatial connections tying both sides together, relate to the hidden space -the subterrania - in respons to the characters. FUNCTIONS

USES

ACTIVITIES | CYCLES

. place for observing . stage for public events & leaving of traces . fusion of semi-public and public sphere [rooftops- groundlevel] . a public which aims to emphasize the individual user

. public stay . source of appearnces . transtition to rooftops . social interaction . giving/getting

. recycle . sugar [heat-bakery-combustion] . night / day . summer / winter . young / old [observation-playfullness]

Building -landscape-staircase

THE INTENTIONS To create

. a program which proposes social sustainability . a possible meating place for the demographics of the site . a place which is responsive and adjustable to the interaction . a place for easy access by the coincidental passing . a possbility of usage for all social layers of the demographic . a place for transistion of the restlessness - possibilities of a intentional nonhappening

AGENDA FORMUL

The Osciliating Hybrid Social sustainability and local responsibility in a jungle of concrete

A Complex Whole Building, landscape and staircase are fusioned to create a hybrid which allows fluent transtions

PROGRAM SHEET

WHY The hectic paste of manhattan is slowly but surely making its apperance in Brooklyn. With this transtion comes a gentrification causing an unruraly atmosphere. A shift in demographics as well as building-typologySaid by locals - the site is a place of passing. The private intercation absuply stops when leaving the apartment, where the focus then becomes one of where to go - usually a place with a clearly defined program.

The Osciliating Hybrid Social sustainability and local responsibility in a jungle of concrete

omplex Whole ding, landscape and staircase are fusioned to e a hybrid which allows fluent transtions

The atmposphere of change proposes no public responsibility or socail sustainability. The site becomes a walking distance, rather than publichome. This is what the hybrid introduces. Through architecture - programs are introdced to create a social collective atmosphere around the site. Programs which are relevant depite age, religious background, nationality and occupation. They respond to the simplest human contions of . the lost and the found - the playfull - the hungry - the concrete-frustration In a time of technology - of accessibility - boarderless societies - the corner of Keap Street and South 4th Street defines it own. An oasis of local needs in a society too big to grasp. FRAMEWORK . a building relating to human scale . creating a fusion between . the fifth fascade and place for semi-public interaction streetlevel . the ares of most intensity of traces/interaction A focus on the previously defined characters, becomes the framework of the spatial realtons between the programs. Created through research and analysis’ of the site - as well as history of Brooklyn, they become representational of the now as a presence of a long, constantly ongong state of change. Including the past - present - future in a complex whole. A place where everything belongs.

REFERENCE | “Hy brid L ands cap es”

A few architects have explored the possibilities of fusing buildings and landscapes, creating what Thom Mayne has called ‘hybrid landscapes.’ While such are not in themselves inherently ecological, this approach indicates a sensibility that could lead in that direction. At the very least, it manifests a different attitude toward architecture, one that plays down a heroic conquest of nature and looks for modes of coexistence with it. As in all cases of coexistence, neither presence is sacrificed at the expense of the other; rather, each impacts the other in creating—hopefully—a balance, even a new form of harmony. LW

HYBRID landSCAPE | URBAN TENTING The urban tenting units are situated on a basis of the path of the sun, and connection with the context. Daylight increases interaction with the cloesest context, making this the aim of the visual connection with the tent-units related to the lowest levels . The less sun, the more need for artificial light - gathered from the amibiance of life from apartments and streetlights - when dark tenting units turn towards manhattan - the [place] which never sleeps.
