FEATURED STAFF
THE ARBUTUS CLUB
Adi Jaya Mahendra
duty manager (mod)
You may have noticed a new face at the MOD Desk. Our new Duty Manager Adi Jaya Mahendra is happily tending to membership needs, so don't be afraid to introduce yourself when he's walking the halls or greeting you as you walk through the Club Reception doors. Adi has extensive experience working in the hospitality and tourism industry, having worked in multiple hotels and resorts, both abroad in Bali, Indonesia and locally in Vancouver. Currently working towards his Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Adi looks to expand his knowledge and acumen of the industry. Hailing from Nusa Penida, a diving magnet and beach-laced island off the south east coast of Bali, Adi is sure to have plenty of stories to share about literal paradise. According to Adi, the best things to do in Nusa Penida are diving, snorkeling, water sports, sightseeing, and mingling with locals during community activities. Stop by, say hello, and we're sure you'll walk away with an idea about your next vacation destination.
Alex Karanis
office administrator
Our administration area also has a new team member helping around the office. Alex Karanis joined the team as our new Office Administrator. Although Alex will support our entire Administration team, he will primarily work with Membership and Accounting. Alex first joined The Arbutus Club as a Lifeguard in June of 2021, so he is relatively familiar with the Club and our members. With a background in Business Administration and Film Production, he knows his way around the office and is great at thinking on his feet. Originally from Markham, Ontario, Alex also worked at the Granite Club in Toronto for 4 years and is very familiar with the private members club industry. He always brings a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and energy to his work, and we trust that he will be a valuable addition to our team. As a former Film Production student, Alex is a huge movie buff and appreciates creative cinematography – with his favorite movie of all time being The Godfather.
Get to know some of the faces you see walking the halls of The Arbutus Club a little bit better. From those working behind the scenes to our front line service staff, we are here to help enhance your Club experience. Help us celebrate major milestones, welcome new staff, or learn more about certain roles with our quarterly Meet the Team feature.
Josephine Perea
janitor
Always exuding a warm demenour and ensuring that the Club is always sparkling, Josephine Perea is an incredibly hardworking and vital member of our team. Earlier this year she transitioned into a full-time position and we're overjoyed that we get to see Josephine even more. Hired in 2010, this year marks a very special milestone for Jospehine as she celebrates her 12-year work anniversary. She is an incredible example of devotion, kindness, and how our staff is part of a supportive community. Outside of the Club, Josephine enjoys spending time in the kitchen cooking up a diverse range of dishes. Pairing well with a good dinner, Jospehine also gets her adrenaline pumping by watching action movies. Be sure to congratulate Josephine on her new position, her work anniversary...or to simply talk shop about the latest silver screen releases.
Erico Manuel
building services supervisor
There's a new Mr. Fix-It in town and we're thrilled to have the help. Join us in welcoming our new Building Services Supervisor, Erico Manuel, to The Arbutus Club Maintenance team. No stranger to construction and hospitality, Erico previously worked at the Hilton Hotel for over 15 years. The role helped him develop expertise in the industry, bringing relevant experience and enthusiasm to our team. Fluent in both English and Tagalog, Erico is ready to jump in and get to work. We are very excited for him to take on a supervisory role and support our Maintenance and Operations team. When Erico is not at work, he loves spending time with his family. A true family man, Erico enjoys helping his kids with schoolwork, spending time with them outdoors, and being an all-around good father. ♦
