The Artifact Company with Tim Lyons Auctioneer (KY #P1699) is pleased to present our
May 2010 Auction Featuring the Virgil Y. Russell Collection Commencing May 1st, 2010 at 10:00am at the Holiday Inn North, Lexington, Kentucky
We are proud to present the sale of many items originally in the Virgil Y. Russell Collection. Mr. Russell (1895-1957), was an early collector, dealer, and author in the Native American Artifacts community, and published two books on artifacts which are highly sought after to this day. We are lucky that the collector who acquired so many of Russell’s fine artifacts retained many of the original provenance letters and correspondence between himself and Virgil so many years ago. These letters were invaluable in demonstrating the true provenance of the collection. Also represented are items from the Brooks Family Collection. This collection consists of artifacts recovered by the maternal side of the family, who previously occupied the land at Blue Licks Battlefield in Robertson County, Kentucky. The family operated a Spa and Spring Water company at the location, and made many of the first discoveries at the site of both artifacts and fossils known to have been recovered. They deeded the land to the State of Kentucky where it is now operated as a State Resort Park. Blue Licks Battlefield was where Daniel Boone’s youngest son, Israel Boone was killed during the Revolutionary war. Also featured in this auction is a wide selection of quality consigned, stone, slate, and pottery artifacts, meticulously culled by our staff for quality, collectability, and authenticity. Many of the items have been previously papered by top authenticators such as Rogers, Jackson, Davis, Cox, Baker, Stermer, Dickey, Berner, and Perino.
