We continue celebrating our 25th year with the exhibition I ♥ My City Art Collection in May, which features 25 works of art from the City Collection, specially chosen by 25 Gold Coasters. Don’t miss it! Dance lovers will be swept back in time with the stunning production of Cloudland in June. Featuring hits from the 40s to the 70s, this romantic performance celebrates Brisbane’s iconic Cloudland Ballroom. Also in June, we’re bringing you Syncopation - a smash-hit fusion of comedy, romance and ballroom dancing set in New York City in 1912. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of the world’s best-loved comedy festivals, and you can experience the highlights right here when the Roadshow tours to the Coast in June. This will sell fast so book now! There’s some fantastic drama on offer, including David Williamson’s hilarious new play Let the Sunshine, the whimsical and imaginative play Boy Girl Wall, and the powerful true story of a Toowoomba teenager’s death from illicit drug use, April’s Fool. For kids we bring mystical creatures to life with I, Bunyip, and for those budding actors in your family, we’re offering the Junior and Youth Residencies with Queensland Theatre Company.

ART ON ART Sat 12 May – Sun 24 Jun GALLERY 2 Ar tists have long looked to the work of their contemporaries and back to their predecessors to draw inspiration. Through a highly considered selection of ar t works from a number of art institutions, Art on Art explores these links and interrogates the act of referencing other artists’ work and life. With a self-referential gaze, the exhibition also ponders the Australian ar t scene and its doyennes. In 2011 the Gallery acquired 12 sculptures by mid-career Queensland ar tist Alasdair Macintyre. The works from this significant acquisition depict cheeky small-scale effigies of leading ar t figures, including John Olsen, Richard Bell and Rosalie Gascoigne.

Art on Art also includes works by Julie Rrap, Imants Tillers and Michael Zavros. OPENING EVENT DATE RSVP

This is the story of Thom and Alethea. Two neighbours in an apartment block, trying desperately to keep their lives from falling apart. But the wall that stands between them has decided they belong together.

Using chalk, sock puppets, a projector and over two-dozen characters, The Escapists spin a tall tale of whimsy and architectural enlightenment. Lucas Stibbard’s captivating performance is accompanied by live music by Neridah Waters. Contains strong coarse language and adult themes
