the arts centre gold coast Welcome We’re thrilled to bring you a theatre experience that was a smashhit success at La Boite in 2012. The Harbinger (p.16) was described by The Australian as ‘beautiful, haunting and touches the rim of the extraordinary.’ With sophisticated puppetry and physical performance, it’s a fairytale for grown-ups. If you’ve never heard the thunderous drumming of the taiko, you’re in for a treat when Australia’s world-acclaimed taiko drumming ensemble, TaikOz, presents Crimson Sky (p.22). Hypnotic traditional Japanese melodies complement the powerful drumming for an electric night out. Over three million people in 60 countries have seen The 39 Steps (p.25) and now you can join them! This fast-paced, side-splitting comedy is based on the 1935 Hitchcock spy thriller movie and has won Tony Awards, Olivier and Helpmann Awards. Every year, Australian artists flood the gallery with entries into the Gold Coast Art Prize (p.8) for their chance to win a share of the $30,000 in acquisitions prize money. Don’t miss this showcase of excellent contemporary art practice from across Australia. And finally, we’re serving up some fabulous end-of-year entertainment with Melbourne Cup Luncheon (p.27), The Flashbacks – A Motown Christmas Experience (p.32) and New Year’s Eve (p.33). See you at the show.
