Nina and Gurmant Grewal’s son removed as candidate

urmant Grewal and Nina Grewal’s son, Liv Grewal, has been ousted as the Conservative party candidate in the new BC riding of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon. His removal is mysterious as it is sudden, ending the Grewal family dream of having a “mother and son” sit together in Parliament for the first time. Liv Grewal sent out a press release on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that he had withdrawn as the candidate for the new riding but giving no reasons as to why he, as a nominated candidate of the Conservatives and son of sitting Fleetwood Ports Kells MP, Nina Grewal, would suddenly withdraw his name. However, he did complain in the press release that “ I’m disappointed with this decision by the Party. Sadly, it is the result of an unfair political process.” This last sentence in the press release makes it clear that the younger Grewal did not go willingly or voluntarily and that he was pushed out. Abbotsford Police charge South Asian men with threatening seniors

bbotsford Police have charged four young men after complaints that seniors were threatened and insulted in a park. Police say the suspects drove through Goldfinch Park in a car, hurling insults at the seniors and ordering them to leave or they’d be killed. The seniors told police one of the suspects used a megaphone to yell at them. They were using Mom and Dad’s car to harass other people’s grandparents,” said Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian MacDonald. On July 18, police stopped a car with four occupants near the park. One of the passengers appeared to be raising a megaphone to his mouth. Amarprit Singh Dhaliwal, 19, Gobind Denzil Singh Pangli, 19 and Suraj Singh Narang, 18, are charged with uttering threats and causing a disturbance. A 17-year-old has also been charged but can’t be named. Continued on page 6

“Inappropriate” for foreign politicians to engage in political activities here – Jason Kenney By Umendra Singh inister of Defense and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, said it is inappropriate for foreign politicians, especially those from Punjab and India, to make political comments, hold political rallies and collect funds for political purposes in Canada. He was replying to a question from the press about Punjab’s Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat, Sikander Singh Maluka, who was critical of the RCMP after a rally last week in Abbotsford at which Maluka was to speak was cancelled.
