JANUARY – APRIL IONAWR – EBRILL 2017 brycheiniog.co.uk
WELCOME Welcome to our Spring 2017 season, here at Theatr Brycheiniog. 2017 will mark a special anniversary for the Theatre as we celebrate our 20th year since opening in April 1997.
I cannot believe how quickly my first year here in Brecon has gone. During the year we have achieved a great deal. I am already looking forward to seeing Theatr Brycheiniog go from strength to strength, as we prepare to celebrate our 20th anniversary with a busy programme of work, that brings together all that is good about Brecon. This season sees us celebrate the wealth of talent that exists in our own community, as a number of local groups take to the stage, these include of course The Westenders and the Young Farmers to name just a few. The annual Rorke’s Drift concert will also be performing here at the Theatre for the 20th time, and promise us another spectacular evening here, I am sure. Alongside our community productions, we also have an excellent programme of professional work, with something for everyone in the coming months, which you will find full details of throughout the brochure.
The Brecon Comedy Club, we launched back in October, on the last Friday of each month, has been incredibly popular. With sell out performances so far each month, it’s been an overwhelming success all round. These events continue in the Spring Season, so make sure and book early to guarantee a seat. Come along and see some of the fantastic talent, currently on the comedy circuit. The Waterfront Bar is now serving homemade light snacks and beverages each day. If you are looking to meet friends for a chat, or colleagues for an informal meeting, why not come along and try some of our great cakes and a coffee. We also have free live music in the bar on Saturdays for you to enjoy, making a great addition to the day. Take a look at our Friends & Patrons scheme and how you can help support the work we do, full details can be found on page 4. To keep in touch and up to date with all of our exciting plans and news, visit our website www. brycheiniog.co.uk or engage with us by following us on social media.
We look forward to welcoming you here at some point during the season.

The actual programme for the Banff Mountain Film Festival is yet to be announced but if the last couple of years is anything to go by, it’ll be ten or so short films in one night that will blow your mind. It’s climbing, it’s biking, it’s endurance: Always extreme.
The Black Hen is a delightful Nepali film set in the awesome Himalayas about two boys and yes, you’ve guessed it, a hen. Wales’ very own Ash Dykes tells tales of crocodiles, jungles and Madagascar. VOX FORTURA
Vox Fortura is the newest most exciting classical crossover group in the world. Recently seen as semi-finalists on Britain’s Got Talent, they stormed the competition with a powerhouse display of vocal panache and won the hearts of all four judges.

Described by fans as ‘the next Il Divo’, Vox Fortura and the zenith of Oscar Wilde’s career. The Trials of Oscar Wilde has been co-written with Merlin Holland who is Oscar Wilde’s grandson. Nos Iau 14 Chwefror 1895 cafwyd noson agoriadol ysgubol The Importance of Being Earnest a gynrychiolai uchafbwynt gyrfa Oscar Wilde. Llai na 100 niwrnod yn ddiweddarach cafodd ei hun yn garcharor cyffredin ac yn fethdalwr, wedi ei ddedfrydu i ddwy flynedd o lafur caled. Ond beth ddigwyddodd yn ystod yr achos, a beth ddywedodd Wilde? A gafodd ef ei drin yn hallt ynteu ai ef ei hun oedd achos ei fethiant? Gan ddefnyddio’r union eiriau a ddefnyddiwyd yn y llys, medrwn gael rhyw syniad o sut beth oedd hi i fod yng nghwmni’r athrylith diffygiol hwn – wrth iddo, ac yntau yn bell o fod yn r delfrydol, gael ei darostwng i fod yn ddyn o ddim pwys o gwbl. Cyd-ysgrifennwyd The Trials of Oscar Wilde gan Merlin Holland sef wyr Wilde. ^

FRIDAY 19 MAY
CALAN
Fiddles, guitar, accordion, bagpipes and step dancing explode into life when Calan, the energetic young folk band from Wales, take to the stage.
THURSDAY 11 MAY
LEVIATHAN JAMES WILTON DANCE Leviathan follows Ahab, a ship captain hell-bent on capturing the white whale: Moby Dick, a beast as vast and dangerous as the sea itself, yet serene and beautiful beyond all imagining. Ahab’s crew are drawn into the unhinged charisma of their captain, blindly following him on his perilous adventure towards almost certain destruction.
They breathe fire into the old traditions with their infectious rhythms and high voltage routines before melting into some of the most beautiful and haunting songs as they explore the legends of Wales’ very own fairy realm with tales of magic, myth and mischief. Ffidil, gitâr, bag-bibau a chlocsio – bydd y fan yn ffrwydro ar y llwyfan pan fydd Calan, y band gwerin ifanc egnïol yn camu arno. Maent yn rhoi egni newydd i’r hen draddodiadau gyda’u rhythmau heintus a’u trefniadau llawn egni cyn newid y cywair yn llwyr gyda chaneuon swynol a llesmeiriol a fydd yn archwilio hud a lledrith chwedlau Cymru a’r helyntion a’r mythau sydd ynghlwm ynddynt.
Multi-award winning choreographer James Wilton re-imagines Herman Melville’s seminal novel, Moby Dick. Mae Leviathan yn dilyn Ahab, capten llong sy’n hollol benderfynol ei fod am ddal morfil gwyn: Moby Dick, anghenfil mor anferth a peryglus â’r môr ei hun, ac eto yn deg a phrydferth tu hwnt i unrhyw amgyffred. Caiff criw Ahab eu dal gan garisma gwallgo’ eu capten, gan ei ddilyn yn ddall ar antur beryglus sy’n sicr bron o’u harwain at ddinistr. Yma mae James Wilton, coreograffydd sydd wedi ennill gwobrau lu, yn ail-ddychmygu nofel flaengar Melvill, Moby Dick.

HYNT
Art and culture is for everyone. But if you have an impairment or a specific access requirement, getting to see it isn’t always easy. Often, visiting a theatre or an arts centre can be more complicated than just booking tickets and choosing what to wear.
Mae celfyddydau a diwylliant ar gyfer pawb. Ond os oes gennych nam neu ofyniad mynediad penodol, nid yw bob amser yn hawdd cael profiad ohono. Yn aml, gall ymweld â theatr neu ganolfan gelfyddydau fod yn fwy cymhleth na dim ond archebu tocynnau a dewis beth i’w wisgo.
Hynt is a new national access scheme that works with theatres and arts centres in Wales to make sure there is a consistent offer available for visitors with an impairment or specific access requirement, and their carers or personal assistants.
Mae Hynt yn gynllun mynediad cenedlaethol newydd sy’n gweithio gyda theatrau a chanolfannau celfyddydau yng Nghymru i sicrhau bod cynnig cyson ar gael i ymwelwyr â nam neu ofynion mynediad penodol ac i’w Gofalwyr a’u Cynorthwywyr Personol. Bydd y wefan yn nodi popeth fydd angen i chi ei wybod am Hynt; ar gyfer pwy mae Hynt, beth mae’n ei ddarparu, a sut i ddod yn aelod.
If you need support or assistance to attend a performance at a theatre or arts centre then you may be eligible to join hynt.
