Sonata For Violin And Cello (1922) Stravinsky The Soldier’s Tale (1918) Ravel

The Sonata For Violin And Cello started life as a one movement duo dedicated to Claude Debussey. Expanding the piece into a fullblown four movement sonata, Ravel declared it a turning point in his career. The work is striking for its harmonic restraint and pared down musical language.

A CONCERT AT BRECON CATHEDRAL

TANYA WALKER BREAKING THE FEAR WALL Moving from hauntingly beautiful to contemporary and unexpected; from popular themes, to rhythm driven walls of sound; this is a powerful new work, composed and performed by award-winning singer/songwriter Tanya Walker.

Stravinsky’s extraordinary The Soldier’s Tale was inspired by the challenge of making musical theatre in wartime Europe as orchestras were disbanded and theatres closed down. A work to be ‘read, played and danced’ by musical ensemble, narrator, actors and a dancer, the piece draws on the rhythms and sounds of jazz, tango and Viennese waltzes.

Fronted by Tanya on lead vocals, grand piano, flute and acoustic guitar, Breaking The Fear Wall will feature powerful harmonies sung by The Brecon Cathedral Choir, a live rock & contemporary classical ensemble and inspirational film imagery. A co-production with the support of Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon Town Council, Brecon Cathedral and Brecon Brewing. TICKETS £7.00 IN ADVANCE ON THE DOOR £8.00 BOOKING FEE PER TICKET 50P

Love us or loathe us, men are everywhere. We have the habit of popping up, often unexpectedly, in your beds, wombs, wars, worst nightmares and fondest memories. We come for better, or for worse, in guises as disparate as drag artiste, soldier, priest and lover, yet apparently we all hail from Mars! No wonder being a man is problematic; it’s dangerous, pressured, ridiculous, often funny and sometimes tragic, but it’s also capable of being something beautiful.
