SUMMERFOLK BY MAXIM GORKY
At the turn of the 20th Century, a group of friends - united by their place in history as an emergent Russian middle class, but disparate in their political views and private lives - retreat for their annual summer holiday in the countryside... Maxim Gorky’s naturalistic masterpiece depicts Russia as it teeters on the edge of social upheaval – exploring the dreams, fears and vanities of a close circle of friends as they question their value in a transient society. An amateur production by arrangement with Rosica Colin Ltd. Translated by Nick Dear.

ROYAL GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY
In the 60th anniversary of the first successful ascent of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing, join one of the most well-known and respected mountaineers of his generation on an intimate portrayal of the Everest story. Venables weaves his own experience – the 1988 ascent without supplementary oxygen – into the bigger picture of Everest exploration from Captain Noel’s first illegal trespass of 1912 to the pre-war attempts, the 1935 triumph and today’s mass guided-climbs.

CARA LUFT
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Cara Luft is that rare artist. Steeped in folk and traditional roots music almost from birth, she is willing to alter that fabric and stretch the boundaries. Unafraid of bending genres, styles and integrating what others might regard as a disparate set of influences, Luft has been compared to artistes of the calibre of Julie Miller, June Tabor, Gillian Welch, Linda Thompson and even Brit folk-rockers Pentangle. PLUS Join Cara for a song-writing workshop at 2.00pm (90 mins). Book via box office.

THE
MAGNETS
Conceived amidst the euphoria of the London Olympics and a sell-out hit at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this concert is a showcase for their talent, breathing new life to hits from The Beatles and Led Zeppelin through to Richard Hawley and Adele, as well as a taste of their own award winning original songs. Sonically stunning, spectacularly theatrical and totally a cappella, these international festival favourites are not to be missed.

Benefits of volunteering includes the opportunity to see events and films for free. Please email your name, address and telephone number to house@wyeside.co.uk to receive an application form or make yourself known to venue staff on your next visit. The recent redevelopment of the Market Theatre has been made possible by funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, Garfield Weston Foundation, the Aggregate Levy Fund For Wales and the Foyle Foundation. Wyeside is an Investor In People.
Wyeside is located in a prominent position on the South bank of the Wye in the town of Builth Wells: next to the river bridge and opposite the brightly coloured Llewellyn mural.
