20/20 Vision - New Decade Identity Credit: American Optometric Association Having 20/20 vision does not necessarily mean you have perfect vision. 20/20 vision is a term used to express normal visual acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision) measured at a distance of 20 feet. In the New International Version of the English Bible the text reads: The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be healthy , thy whole body shall be full of light. Do you have healthy eyes (vision and purpose)? What do you see for your life in 2020? Or has your eyes (vision and purpose) been centered around what others see for you? Life has a way of tainting our realities of who we really are. The moment we are born, the expectations, perceptions, and biases of others are placed upon us. From childhood through adulthood, these unrealistic expectations, misperceptions, and unfair prejudices compound until they become our standard for living. We strive to become someone we were never created to be. Though we feel the discontent in our hearts, we are unable to understand the void we feel. We often begin to feel confused, and wonder what is wrong with us. We have no idea that yes, we are flawed but, life’s flaws have also been placed upon us. One area that is flawed in our lives is our identity. We have no idea who we are! We will need 20/20 vision to gain clarity about our identity in this new year. The only way to experience a fulfilling life of vision and purpose, is to first discover who you were truly created to be. I believe we were all created to be BARE - Be Authentic Real and Exposed.
Becoming BARE is a continual and intentional process which will require courage and perseverance. The BARE process is a transformational strategic journey. It will be necessary for you to address your past, analyze your present, and act on your future. The only way to discover your true, authentic, self is to first uncover the untruths of your past. Once you address your past, only then will you be able to accurately analyze your present. Are you living life to the fullest, or have your expectations of and for yourself been a mere reflection of how others view you? Only after you have analyzed your current lifestyle and exposed its flaws, will you finally be ready to act on your future. Are you ready to dream? Do you believe you were created to be significant? I believe your destiny is in your hands. No one can take it from you unless you allow them to. The process of becoming BARE begins with a decision. The choice is yours to make. Will you choose to live in the comfort of chaos, or in the freedom of becoming your BARE self? Remember 20/20 vision only indicates the sharpness or clarity of vision at a distance. In this new decade, let your eyes (vision and purpose) look ahead, focus, and gain clarity of who you are today and throughout this year. Embrace Your 2020 Vision
