Savanna Sheahan: To the next SGA President,
Wow, what a ride you are about to begin! You are going to learn more than you can imagine. This position has been the highlight of my college career and I am beyond excited for you to enjoy the same journey. I’ll leave you with a few pieces of advice:
1. Have a vision for the SGA internally and externally. Focus on it but also be okay with some deviation. We need to adapt to our ever growing campus and innovative student body.
2. Care deeply for the team around you as they are what makes the SGA successful.
3. Foster positive and respectable relationships with all parts of campus. Your voice is larger than you think. Use it wisely!
4. Be creative! Make this experience the best you can and leave Embry-Riddle better than you found it.
Before you know it, you’ll blink and find yourself at the end of your Spring term. Your time as SGA President is a short gift.
Focus on what matters to the student body, what matters to you, and what matters to your SGA team around you. This will give you a path to set you up for success as a leader on this campus.
My advice is to listen and learn as much as you can about the students and the university so you can implement initiatives based on the true values of the student body.
The student body should always be at the forefront of your mind and it will not always be easy, but it will be worth it.
Have fun, make memories, and ask yourself… “
