THE TREND REPORT Fall/Winter Edition
BY ELLE GRANT
With the arrival of fall, many New Englanders rejoice at the chance to reach for the classics of boots, flannels, vests and more. This season of fall fashion is most certainly more than meets the eye.
Red Red is inarguably the color of fall of 2017. This powerful hue has made the transition to fall easiest in sky high boots and thick coats seen on runways of Givenchy and Fendi. Red presents a front of power; this color is one that presents a woman of strength. For the average lady, the style can be embraced more simplistically. By adding a red accessory of a hand bag, a scarf or even a red lip can elevate any outfit to reach peak fall sophistication.
No Frills Fur More brands are going fur free, including Gucci. The trend of fur whether it be for real or for faux, is back for another season this fall. Most popularly presented in a coat, such fur can bring any outfit to the next level by adding airs of sheer elegance. In coats like the ones on the Yeezy runway, the thick coats appear to be plucked straight from the closet of Cruella de Vil; in the best way possible. By throwing it on over a casual or fancier outfit, you’re certain to be both stylish and warm this fall.
Fall Florals They may seem inspired by your grandmother’s couch or curtains, but they are essential for this coming fall. Though the brighter florals have retired from their summer fling, more muted florals in tones of browns, reds, yellows and burgundys are perfect for the transition to fall. As a dress or top, it is a casual way to achieve this transition. By throwing on a coat and adding tights, this will transition the look even further all the way to winter.
‘70’s Plaid In seasons past, the fall plaid was most commonly echoed in the flannel; a fall staple for as long as memory seems to serve. However, this season plaid is extended from both its classic colors and classic frames. More vibrant yellow, blues and reds have made appearances on runways like Prada as a change up from more typical hues. And beyond the flannel, plaid has been on coats, skirts, pants, and tops. Any of these paired with fall essentials: boots, jeans both black and blue and a scarf will create a fall look envied by all.
Collars Victorian and alternative inspired collars have been at the forefront of runways like John Galliano this season. Beyond the typical business collar, these alternative collars have presented the unique look of being almost an accessory. Not quite a shirt, but not quite a necklace; the collars have presented something of an in between look that can complement a vintage inspired look for the season. It may be Shakespeare inspired, but it is, in fact, chic.
Chocolate Many may shy away from brown; a color typically considered too bland to make a statement. But, the warm and cozy potential chocolate. From boots, to belts, to sweaters, to coats and more, chocolate is another color of the season. It is arguably much more manageable than the boldness of red, but still packs a flattering punch on all. Chocolate brown is nothing to shy away from this season!
Overall, the coming fall and winter season is leaning towards the warm, the cozy and the stylish all at once. By creating looks based on these factors, one can maximize both their comfort and their fashion this coming season. So break out those boots and pick up a few things on trend to make the most of this fall!

NYC Model Life
Walking down the runway for 30 seconds may seem like a simple task. However, the hard
TAYLOR N
work, dedication, and balancing it takes for the average model to take part in New York Fashion Week is unimaginable. Yes, fashion week is fun and magical, but models from The Beauty Within can testify that a lot of work goes into that thirty seconds of glory.
FRANZISKA S
Could you describe your experience with CFW/NYFW? My first exposure to the heart of the fashion industry. Absolutely fascinating! Did you have to study backstage? I brought all my paperwork on the train and was able to get it all done before getting into Manhattan. Did you have to rearrange your schedule for the shows? NYC fashion shoot first, everything else came second. What did you have to give up to be in NYFW? Another shoot day on the set of Amy Schumers current production in Boston, MA. What was the best part of being in the CFW shows? Getting a glance on the sidelines and behind the scenes was an incredible experience. Did you have a shoot during NYFW? Yes! With Dasha Denger shooting for Written Apparel. What was that experience like? My first Manhattan shoot, absolutely amazing, fantastic team, beautifully handcrafted fashion and amazing set!
Could you describe your experience with CFW/NYFW? NYFW is always a great experience! It's a lot of work and organizing. I have to be sure to have school, cheer, and work in order before we can leave for New York. Being in New York also takes a lot of organizing and scheduling. I walked in four shows in three days. Saturday I had 4:00 & 8:00 show. Saturday I had a 6:00 show and Sunday 4:00 show. Each show required me to be backstage 3 hours early for fittings and hair and make-up. It is very important to be available for designers and show up to fittings. Hair and make-up must be on time. Did you have to study backstage? Yes, I did study before and after shows. It is a juggle but it's worth it. Did you have to rearrange your schedule for the shows? Yes, I had to reschedule a few things. We left Wednesday night so we could be in NY for designer fittings on Thursday morning. What did you have to give up to be in NYFW? I had to miss cheer practice as well as our first football game of the season. I also missed two days of school. Would you do it again? Yes, of course! This was my 3rd NYFW that I was a part of. I look forward to many more.
Could you describe your experience with CFW/NYFW? My experience with CFW/ NYFW overall, was a successful experience. I got to learn so much about all of the different cultures that come together, what really takes place during fashion week, and that it isn't all about glitz and glamour. It's about the art of fashion and the designers being able to express that through their clothing. Did you have to study backstage? Backstage, I had to pay attention to what was going on all around me because it is definitely a hectic scene, but there is so much to learn. I "studied" the background of my designers cultures as well as what type of catwalk they wanted us to bring to the runway, to make sure I could ace it. Did you have to rearrange your schedule for the shows? Yes, I had to re-arrange my schedule for the shows to make sure I could be on time for my call times and fittings. What did you have to give up to be in NYFW? had to give up a lot of work hours to be in fashion week, but it was totally worth it and I would do it all over again. (This was my 3rd time and counting) Would you do it again? Absolutely.
JULIE J
What was the best part of being in the CFW shows? The best part about being in the shows was not only the experience of being in fashion week itself, but I took it all as a learning experience. If you want to make it in New York as a high fashion model, the CFW shows are definitely a perfect introduction, great exposure as well as experience to the New York model fashion life. Did you have a shoot during NYFW? The opportunities that can come out of CFW are also very amazing. If you network the right way, you can meet with designers who want to work with you outside of just the shows. I got booked for another show, later in NYFW (it was paying) through one of my designers just all simply from networking with the right people!
Could you describe your experience with CFW/NYFW? My experience with CFW was amazing! All of the designers were amazing with their own original pieces which incorporated different story lines and themes. I loved being able to help bring their creations to life. Did you have to study backstage? Unfortunately there was no time to study backstage between hair and makeup, fittings and rehearsals. Did you have to rearrange your schedule for the shows? I did have to rearrange my work schedule as well as my school schedule in order to walk in the shows. What did you have to give up to be in NYFW? I gave up work as well as two days of school in order to walk in NYFW.
NATALIA K
What was the best part of being in the CFW shows? The best part of CFW shows was listening to the stories behind each piece of clothing created by the designers. All designers had interesting inspirations behind their pieces. Did you have a shoot during NYFW? I participated in a photo shoot for Vivre Couture during NYFW. What was that experience like? The photo shoot was the highlight of my week, as it was with an amazing hand painted couture collection that was shot in times square with all of New York’s wonders!
HANNAH M
Could you describe your experience with CFW/NYFW? My first runway show in NYC! Absolutely unbelievable! Did you have to study backstage? I brought all my paperwork and studied when I could. Did you have to rearrange your schedule for the shows? Missed a Lacrosse practice but it was worth it. What did you have to give up to be in NYFW? A Sunday back home. What was the best part of being in the CFW shows? Seeing all the excitement backstage with over 100 models! Loved the HUMA team, seeing myself come down the runway, and walking into 150 photographers. What was that experience like? My first Manhattan show, I was so happy to share the moment with my mom and then my agent, Pamela Masucci.

The Petersen Automotive Museum
Founded on June 11, 1994 by magazine publisher Robert E. Petersen and his wife Margie, the $40-million Petersen Automotive Museum is owned and operated by the Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation. Robert Petersen selected the largely windowless site as an ideal space for a museum— allowing artifacts to be displayed without harmful exposure to direct sunlight. The museum has over one-hundred vehicles on display in its twenty-five galleries. The remaining half of the collection is kept in a "vault," located on the basement level of the building. Age restrictions and an admission premium are in effect to view the vault collection. The ground floor focuses on automotive artistry, showcasing an array of extravagant automobiles. The second floor is principally concerned with industrial engineering—including design, performance, and a collection of interactive teaching exhibits. Special displays on the industry floor cover racing, motorcycles, hot rods and customs. The third floor chronicles the history of the automobile with an emphasis on the car culture of Southern California. Bugatti Family History All four of the major figures in the company’s history – Carlo, Rembrandt, Ettore and Jean – were blessed with extraordinary artistic talent and craftsmanship. This talent brought the whole family together and laid the foundation for the brand values that define Bugatti to this day. Carlo Bugatti was an Italian decorator, designer and manufacturer of Art Nouveau furniture, models of jewelry, and musical instruments. Ettore Acro Isidoro (first son of Carlo) was an Italian born French automobile designer and manufacturer. He is remembered as the founder and proprietor of the automobile manufacturing company Automobiles E. Bugatti. Rembrandt Bugatti ( Second Son to Carlo ) (16 October 1884 – 8 January 1916) was an Italian sculptor, known primarily for his bronze sculptures of wildlife subjects. He was a young man when he began to work with the art foundry and gallery owner, Adrian Hébrard. He produced a number of bronzes which were successfully exhibited and promoted by Hébrard. Bugatti's love of nature led to him spending a great deal of time in the wildlife sanctuary in Paris or at the Antwerp Zoo where he studied the features and movement of exotic animals. His sculptures of animals such as elephants, panthers and lions became his most valuable and worth millions at auctions. Jean Bugatti (Grandchild to Carlo/Nephew to Rembrandt) (15 January 1909 – 11 August 1939) was a French automotive designer and test engineer. By the late 1920s, young Jean Bugatti was an integral part of the company and had already demonstrated his vehicle design abilities. In 1932, at the age of twenty-three years, he did most of the design for the company's Type 41 Royale. His body designs complemented his father's engineering skill, making Bugatti one of the greatest names in automobile manufacturing. Additionally, Jean Bugatti designed four bodies for the Type 57, the Ventoux, Stelvio, Atalante and Atlantic models. Regarded as the finest of all touring Bugatti models, the supercharged vehicle was displayed first at the 1936 Paris Salon.
Jean, on whose shoulders all hopes for Bugatti’s future rested, tragically died during a test drive in 1939. www.peterson.org

It’s Never Too Late:
I have been in involved in the fitness industry as a Personal Trainer since 1987. For the last 30 years I have seen the evolution of mainstream fitness, dieting and sports supplements. My struggle with food was just like anybody else’s struggle. I loved to eat and my weight fluctuated up and down for years. In 2016 I decided to make a full commitment to changing my eating habits and adjusting my lifestyle in order to change my physical appearance and my inner core philosophy about food forever.
Starting a New Fitness Lifestyle
By Alonso Sanchez
In my 30 years as a personal trainer, I have seen all the fad diets and exercise gimmicks, in addition to many companies claiming to have the “ultimate way to lose fat without working out”, or properly changing your eating lifestyle. There are so many choices out there on the market today that it makes us, the consumers, go crazy about who or what to believe From my experience the first thing that must be done, in order to accomplish one’s goal, whether it’s to loose fat, gain muscle or drop pounds, is to start with making a commitment to changing one’s LIFESTYLE. Without this change, dieting and exercising will never work. A person must have the desire that he or she is finished looking or feeling a certain way and must be willing to make changes in his/her life to make this possible. In my opinion these are the major points that will help anyone meet with success: 1. Set up a workout plan and be consistent with your workouts no matter what. 2. Find the right eating plan that works for you, and follow it, without cheating, to achieve maximum results. 3. Drink water daily. 4. Burn calories every day. Just twenty minutes daily walking, running, jogging, swimming, or biking.etc, will promote great results.
5. Practice yoga as a healthy way to move your body in different planes of motion. I am now able to bend better and move better, because I am more loose and flexible as a result of my regular yoga practice. 6. Get a deep tissue massage or body work therapy at least twice a month, to help you keep muscles at their peak levels of performance, with a better range of motion and less tightness. 7. Meditate to help stay committed your desired goals. 8. Most importantly, never give up.
I want to take this moment to share my personal journey with you and how I lost 54 lbs, dropped 4 (36- 32) pant sizes, and went down from an XL shirt to a Medium/ Large. I went from 243 pounds in 2014 to 189 pounds, as of Aug 20, 2017,I started my journey with a combination of Power Yoga and deep tissues massage to loosen so many years of being inactive. I have had several injuries throughout my life, from car accidents, to a gunshot wound to my left quad, two herniated discs, and a bulging disc. To top it off, I fell off from a ladder 15ft up high. I have had every excuse not to push myself, and not to workout. honestly had given up on myself. I saw a video on You Tube that inspired me to get out of my head and get myself back to the best shape of my life. The video is the transformation of Army paratrooper Arthur Boorman. I would watch this video over and over each day, when i felt like giving up. I had no excuse to give up, and if he could transform himself, I was going to do it too. I started with one yoga class a week, and slowly built myself up to 5 days a week. I completed about six months of yoga before I started strength training with weights. My strength routine was slow at the beginning, doing low amounts of weights and lots of repetitions. At the beginning, I implemented a three-day split routine, that consisted of chest and back on day one, shoulders and arms on day two, and finally legs on day three. The final stage started at the end of 2016, when I felt my body was responding. without pain, to the workout routine I was putting it through. The last thing left was changing my eating habits. From all the other meal plans out there, this one the Dukan Diet worked the best for me. In 8 months I lost 54 pounds; all my hard work and determination paid off. Never give upon your goals.

Yolanda Cellucci
A look at her life, and her
CLOSET
BY NOLAN CHRISTOPHER WILLS
For nearly five decades, Yolanda Cellucci has been a glamorous fixture of the Boston fashion industry. A self made woman and business power house, Yolanda began her career in 1967. Married and with children of her own at age 27, Cellucci was met at the time with a series of financial difficulties that made her hair fall out due to stress. In light of this situation, Yolanda turned to wigs. Unfortunately, the quality of wigs sold at the time dissatisfied Yolanda, and she began to style wigs of her own in order to make them look like her own hair. Through word of mouth, Yolanda began to start a business styling other peoples wigs into something realistic and beautiful. Soon after, Cellucci opened her own store “Yolanda” in Waltham, MA. Yolanda’s bridal boutique flourished, growing to include a restaurant, health club, swimming pool, limousine service, hair salon, manicures, facials, massages, and a fashion selection suited for all women. The chief mission of Yolanda and her business was to “help every woman feel like a real woman”, focusing on their wedding and a majority of the parts that go along with it. Yolanda’s huge boutique thrived for 41 years until closing its doors in 2009, but Cellucci’s passion for empowering women did not stop there. Throughout her entire life, Yolanda has been a massive philanthropist, raising and donating large sums of money to a variety of charities through beautiful gala events hosted by Yolanda herself. Her over the top costumes were a staple at any one of her events. The clothes and costumes worn by this “Goddess of Glitz” are just the tip of the sparkly iceberg, for it was through fashion that Yolanda changed not only her own life, but the lives of others.
This “VOGUE” dress by Sondra Celli and headpiece by Carlo Salemi, is poly-‐satin and embellished with Swarovski crystals. This coat dress was worn by Yolanda for one of her many fashion extravaganzas that she produced for numerous charities over the years.
Yolanda sat down with myself and StyleUp Editor-In-Chief Pamela Masucci to film an episode of her cable television show “Yolanda Style & Glamour” which can be found on WCAC-TV channel 8 of Waltham. After our lovely interview discussing the magazine and a few other topics, Yolanda agreed to show us some of her very own wardrobe favorites and essentials. Pieces that really reflected the Yolanda Cellucci fashion DNA. This DNA, this style aesthetic of hers, can best be described as: glamorous purity. All of the garments brought were in shades of white and enhanced with Swarovski crystals, feathers, fur, and sequins.
Little White Dress The first piece Yolanda showed was this little off white dress, complete with white feathers surrounding the hem. Yolanda tells me, “I wanted to have fun with it, my daughter Sandra Celli created it, and I wore it to the drag brunch held every year by Daniel Faucher.” Sandra Celli is widely known for her flamboyant creations featured on TLC’s hit TV show, “My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding”, so it came as no surprise that such a fabulous designer was also Yolanda’s daughter. The two are truly cut from the same sequined cloth. The large crystal necklace was purchased while on vacation in Aruba.
Bling Ring The next item was a beautiful cocktail ring embellished with crystals. Another unique item that perfectly encapsulates that Yolanda style DNA. Feminine, eye-catching, and elegantly glamorous. Yolanda often wears this ring to many events, it too was created by Sandra Celli.
Foxy Cashmere Day to day fashion should not be difficult, and it is clear that Yolanda understands the compromise of comfort with a dash of glam. This elegant cashmere and fox fur coat was purchased by Yolanda at Niemen Marcus, and is a favorite of hers.
Incognito This white BCBG suit topped off with a Niemen Marcus hat which reads “Incognito” along the brim, was worn by Yolanda to a brunch. The suit is classic and elegant, exuding a confidence but also a sense of humor when paired with the “incognito” hat.
Sequins Sequins is done right in this well cut silver sequins jump suit custom made by Sandra Celli. The garment itself evoked that happy feeling I personally get when I see a chainmail Atelier Versace piece. Worn to an event held by designer David Joseph, this jumpsuit is pure Yolanda, embodying that fashion is about having fun.
“Goddess of Glitz” Upon researching Yolanda Cellucci’s life, career, and seeing some of her favorite clothes, it is clear that her love of fashion is not just material. Fashion has given Yolanda a vehicle to deliver confidence and empowerment to everyone who came through her boutique doors, and who continue to flock to her for that inspiring glitzy magic she offers. The fabric of Yolanda Cellucci, is one of a high moral thread count, for she discovered what gave her strength and chose to share it with the world.

EDITOR’S FINAL
THOUGHTS As I am writing this, I am wearing my new Calvin Klein knee boots, their first outing of the season. They feel fantastic because it is autumn. This new season is a time to invest in some new pieces for the wardrobe that make you feel confident and put together. Our first Fall/Winter combination issue helps you do just that. The StyleUp team has spent months gathering terrific editorial information that will have you prepped for anything life might throw at you. Many of this issues featured designers contributed to the fashion inspiration. From velour ensembles, funky leggings, and electric sequin dresses. As the holidays approach, our creative director has handpicked a list of 20 luxury holiday gifts, perfect for people of all ages. Boston’s fashion icon, Yolanda Cellucci, was another special treat. Yolanda agreed to share a few of her own fabulous wardrobe pieces many of which were custom created for her. Shooting five editorial shoots for this issue has been such a wonderful experience. Each designer's collection has its own spirit and was shot in various New England locations to complement that spirit. With Project Runway designer Kelly Dempsey’s editorial spread, “What aisle is Rack Addik in?”, being shot in a local grocery store. Ruby Mac's collection however, was shot at Newport Fort Adams in a series of abandoned captains quarters. Pamela Paquin's Peace Fur collection was also shot in Newport, at Giovanni Feroce's elegant estate. Written Apparel, featured in our first few pages, was shot in the middle of busy Manhattan streets. Carissa Lynne's F/W collection along with Sharon Cox-Cole’s S/S 2018 collection were shot at the Umbrella Factory in Charlestown, RI. The weather did not cooperate with our Candice Wu Couture and Alexandra's Boutique shoot, but it turned out to be one of our most beautiful spreads, with our bridal models posing in a winter wonderland as seen on pages 68-75. This year, I had the honor to be selected as an official judge in this years Miss New Jersey USA and Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2018 pageant. Crowning two young ladies and changing their lives forever was very rewarding. I look forward to sharing with our readers a new issue six months from now covering the best New England has to offer next Spring/Summer 2018. Onwards & Upwards,
Pamela Masucci Pamela Masucci Editor-in-Chief
