A man was travelling to the Himalayas found a snake lying coiled on the side of the road. Frozen by the snow, it could not even move an inch. Concerned for the snake’s welfare, the man started caressing it. It seemed so gentle and harmless that the snake might be feeling very cold and decided to tuck it under his armpit in order to keep it warm. Slowly, as the snake absorbed the heat from the man’s body, it emerged from its hibernation and bit the man with its poisonous fangs. Likewise, for want of the right situation, our negativities may not manifest immediately. In the presence of a true master like GURU the right circumstances to bring even our hibernating habits out into the open spontaneously unfold. Only when these negativities are brought into the light of awareness can they be transformed and ultimately transcended. In our Scouting and daily life at home or at Office there are so many different circumstances that can bring up our negative feelings such as anger, resentment and jealousy. If we are watching in our camps our staff who are wasting their time without doing any job we get angry. If children are giving much love and respect to any of our staff who is very junior to us, we feel jealousy. All of these circumstances are opportunities for our negativities to be revealed. As Leaders of this noble Movement we must have self control on our Ego. We may get so many criticisms against us especially when we are doing good things. Such time some people who are not competent, inefficient and good for nothing will feel jealous, angry and resented. They will react not directly but through others or write letters in false names. They are known as cowards, but we should not react when they act. They will be punished by themselves. We must concentrate on our responsibilities because we work for our children as we love Scouting. Our National Jamboree is nearing. This time our Jamboree will be having novel enjoyable programmes. We are trying our level best to include challenging and enjoyable programmes so that participants will enjoy a memorable Jamboree. But we will not compromise with discipline. This time we are going to have about one thousand participants from abroad. There will be BSG units who are from our overseas Districts. We request all of you to extend your full support.

During the period of present National Council since November 2013, I tried my level best to bring in positive change in the administrative setup and Programmes. Long awaited amendments to APRO I, II, III, Rules and SOT (S) & (G) were also done with the team of professionals at the NHQ. Team with expertise at Bengaluru was also of great help. Image and visibility of the Bharat Scouts and Guides is also improved. I alongwith my team also tried to upgrade the infrastructure facilities available at the National Headquarters, National Training Centre/National Adventure Institute, Pachmarhi and National Youth Complex, Gadpuri. Our efforts to bring large number of contribution to support our financial needs got momentum in the beginning. This effort has to sustain. The work of renovation & repairs was taken up purely due to the importance of upgrading needed for half a century old buildings at National Headquarters and National Training Centre. Though I tried to associate as many people as possible to be the part of various committees at National Level and to seek their support in rejuvenation of the activities of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Headquarters, still more amount of efforts need to be done to seek more funding. All the financial needs of the association were considered carefully in consultation with senior volunteers in the movement before arriving at any final decision.

requires to be taken forward with renewed enthusiasm. This was my first term at the National Headquarters. I expected an environment of cooperation, compassion and re-conciliation among professional and voluntary leadership. I did my role of the friend, philosopher and guide to everyone in general and to the professionals of BS&G in particular. I also gave an opportunity to everyone to contribute positively in the growth of the movement. I only wish that everyone who are associated with me will agree that they had better say and freedom during my tenure at the National Headquarters as Chief Executive of National Association i.e. Chief National Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides. th

September-2016

Message of Chief National Commissioner on the Occasion of Foundation Day of Bharat Scouts and Guides th Flag Day on 7 November, 2016. Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Bharat Scouts & Guides is a voluntary and educational movement to shape and build the character of young people through inculcating values of self-discipline, social service and patriotism. The Scout Movement which was founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1907 is now spread in many countries and territories affiliated to WOSM (161 NSOs) and WAGGGS (147 MOs) potential. The ideals of the Movement are being practiced in many other countries who are awaiting affiliation. The pre-Independence era saw a number of Scouts and Guides Associations working with various objectives upholding the fundamental principles of Founder of Scout/Guide Movement Lord Baden Powell and contributing in their own way for development of the youth in the country. 7th November, 1950 is a golden letter day in the History of Indian Scouting and Guiding. It is the day on which the Scout and Guide Associations came into an Unified National Organisation for Scouts and Guides in Independent India under the banner of "THE BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES". In the year 2000 when we celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the Foundation of Bharat Scouts and Guides, it was decided to celebrate the Day as Flag Day of Bharat Scouts and Guides to involve the community in celebrating the anniversary of the Foundation by presenting a token flag to well-wishers of the movement and to receive contributions from them in support of the activities of the Association. During the last six and a half decade the Bharat Scouts and Guides played vital role in educating millions of young people in life skills and rendered yeoman service to the Community. Our services were recognized nationally and internationally. The Bharat Scouts and Guides was conferred with the "Messengers of Peace" award by United Nations in the year 1987. During the past 66 years, our members contributed individually and collectively in promotion of health, Sanitation, peace and awareness in the environment through various activities. Our members actively participated in disaster relief activities and rehabilitation of people affected by natural calamities in Latur (Maharashtra), Orissa, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamilnadu, Bihar and Nepal. We helped rebuild schools, community centers etc in places affected by natural calamities. On this Flag Day I request fellow citizens to encourage the activities of the Scout/Guide Movement by accepting the token flag presented and contribute to the Flag Day fund of the Bharat Scouts and Guides which will be chanalised for Community Development activities all over the Country. I wish all the members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides a Happy Flag Day. With Scout Guide Greetings.

14th Korean National Jamboree th

I, Vishwas Disawal from Nagpur was selected to represent India in the 14 Korean National Jamboree held at Daegu City from the 3rd of August 2016 to the 09th of August. The event was actually scheduled for 5 days with 2 days reserved for the opening and the closing of the event. Countries from all over the world participated. There were a total of 50 countries. Different activities like cycling, swimming and paragliding were a part of the event. The number of people who participated were around 10,000. Out of this around, 60-70 were foreigners. All the 10,000 candidates were divided into groups of 15-20. These were the patrols. Scouts and Rovers had different patrols. Each patrol was given a food coupon for the lunch. The dinner was provided by the staff monitoring the patrol. The camp saw different kinds of physical, environmental, social and spiritual activities throughout. Language problem prevailed, however the people, there were friendly, and using sign language and other means I was able to communicate with them. The first day saw the opening ceremony, and activities like swimming. Every morning we were taken for prayers. The amount of interaction with people of other nations was considerable and provided with a brilliant experience. Seagway is a electronic vehicle used for small commute. We were taught about handling it and using it. The campsite was situated in a hilly area. It had a biking track, where the scouts were given a 12 KM stretch to test their expertise on the wheels. The weeklong event saw two important cultural nights. The first one was a traditional night were people from different nations wore their cultural outfits and displayed it upon a stage. I choose dhoti kurta for this event. The second was leader’s night. I gifted every camp member of mine with a token from our country. The Leaders Night saw youngsters over the age group of 20 interacting and celebrating. I had packed ingredients from India and cooked a meal for my camp mates. It was the Upma and the Daliya. We were also sent on a field trip to visit the city of Daegu . We went to the local markets, to a science presentation, and to a church. It was a great experience for me. I got to interact with people of other Nations and got to know how the world is. The event improved me socially, spiritually and physically. The things that can be learnt from the Korean Scouts Association are plenty. We could implement such stuff for the Bharat Scouts Guide as well. This would help our scouts to get better trained. Any help I could do in setting up such activities I would gladly perform. Report Submitted by: Mr. Vishwas Disawal, Rover, Maharashtra State.
