President’s Message lans’k

“Har Ghar Tiranga” created great impact in young minds on the importance of freedom as they are looking ahead for the “Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal”- the next 25 years when they will become the decision makersofourcountry.

To revisit the struggle of our predecessors to attain freedom from Colonial rule and past invasions on our culture and heritage by various intruders is important, if we want to protect our cultural heritage.Toknowhowothersusedourweaknesses to rule our land, our youth need to know our strengths in culture, literature, heritage, languages etc.sothattheycanbuildagreatnationinfuture.

The world order of many alliances for defence or the United Nations lost its purpose in creating WorldPeace.Onlywaytocreateabetterworldisto imbibephysical, emotionalandspiritualstrengthof our young people. At Bharat Scouts and Guides we work with “the purpose to contribute to the developmentofyoungpeopleinachievingtheirfull physical, intellectual, emotional, socialandspiritual potentialsasindividuals, asresponsiblecitizensand asmembersofthelocal,NationalandInternational communities”. This purpose of ours is the greatest contributionfor2047.

HERITAGE means “things such as works of art, cultural achievements and customs that have been passed on from earlier generations”. CULTURE means “art, music, literature and other intellectual expressions of a particular society, state or nation.” Throughout the history of humankind, human beings have identified themselves with their culture and heritage, which give them a sense of pride. To a certain extent, our cultural heritage mirrors our national unity. India is a great nation with `Unity in Diversity`. Therefore, the preservation of heritage properties is an important undertaking, as it helps in understanding the story of a race. Heritage includes both the tangibles (monument, landmarks, places, etc.) and the intangibles (stories, dances,food,etc.).

It gives us a feeling of pride to look at monuments like Qutab Minar, Ramakrishna Math of Belur, Pyramids of Egypt or landmarks like The Red Fort in New Delhi and The Taj Mahal in Agra or places such as Rajasthan- the land of Rajputs or Delhi -the pot-pourri of different cultures. Panchatantra stories, dances like Kuchipudi and Kathakali and Chaats of Mumbai or Idli and Masala Dosa of Southern states reflect our culture. To a large extent, the Idefine who we are and unite our communities.Unfortunately, someofthemarefastdisappearingduetorapidurbanisationandlack of interest among the younger generation, environmental pollution and such other factors. Our members of the scout movement are always making efforts for protection and preservation of environmentandpeacebuildingincommunities.Asthestoriesofournationsareslowlyvanishing, the only solution is that we should prepare our youth to be heritage guardians of the future. World Heritage is the collective property of humanity and not only that of the country where the sites are located. Even though the nation is its rightful owner, the responsibility for its protection is international. People who live at the sites, tourists who visit them, specialists who study them, the media which speaks of them, the states that manage them are all responsible for protecting the heritage.
