The Bikers Trading Post Digital edition A look back at some of the events and happenings that we attended The Bikers Trading Post was started in April of 2012 with the first issue hitting the streets in June of 2012. In the past year and a half we have expanded the coverage to publishing 16,000 copies and delivering to approximately 340 locations. In addition to the deliveries I hold back a little over 1000 copies to hand out at the events we cover. We are the largest distributor of any motorcycle related information and publication that comes into and covers Western Pennsylvania. In 2013 we held 3 events and gave away a 2013 Harley-Davidson as a promo. Most people think of The Bikers Trading Post as a cruiser magazine but we do cover all types of motorcycles and riding. We are not publishing over the winter this year and plan on the next issue to come out in mid March. In this issue we plan on doing a lot of things differently. I am planing on having a section on Sports Bikes and a section on Dirt Bikes in addition to what we do now. We will also be doing a digital issue every month that will be an expanded issue with additional coverage of the events and happenings in the area along with a lot more photographs of the people and happenings in the Western Pa. Motorcycle world. We are also planning on expanding the area that we are covering to include some of the outlying places that he people from here are frequenting. With the expanded digital issue and also covering different types of events this will expand us out to increase our number of readers along with the areas that people are seeing the magazine. In our expanded issue we will go into more detail on the bikes, and their builders and riders. We will also be featuring several bikes each month instead of just one. At this time I am looking for someone that is interested in becoming a working partner to cover part of the area or someone that would be interested in investing it the magazine. This will fund the expansion and the additional areas that we are going to cover. Humor to relieve stress Dear Abby I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice on what could be a crucial decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs...phone rings, but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently, although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them." I sometimes stay awake to look out for her cab coming home, but she always comes walking up the drive as I hear the sound of a car leaving, around the corner, as if she has gotten out and walked the rest of the way. Why? Maybe she wasn't in a taxi at all? I once picked up her cell phone, just to see what time it was. This caused her to go completely berserk. She quickly snatched the phone out of my hand and cursed me hysterically, screaming that I should never touch her personal property, then accused me of trying to spy on her. Anyway, I have never broached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her. I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson Lowrider next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the street around the corner when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my motorcycle that I noticed a small amount of motor oil leaking through the gasket between the rear head and rocker arm cover. So...is this something I can easily repair myself or do you think I should take it back to the dealer?
Bar An old man went into a bar to have a drink, and watched all the girls sitting at the counter, so he said to the guy next to him: Wow I would sure like to have one of those girls.
The guy replied: Hey that's possible coz all the girls works for me, which one do you want ? The old man pointed at one of them and said how about her ? Ok come with me, so you can meet her. The old man replied: Hey wait a minute !! How much is this gonna cost me ? Well it all depends on your age, how old are you ? I just turned 89 years old. That'll be $89 then !! "89 DOLLARS" ??? the old man yelled, are you putting me on ????? No that'll be $5 extra !!
At the Bar A biker walks into the front door of a bar. He is obviously drunk, and staggers up to the bar, seats himself on a stool and, with a belch, asks the bartender for a drink. The bartender politely informs the man that it appears that he has already had plenty to drink, he could not be served additional liquor at this bar, and could a cab be called for him? The biker is briefly surprised, then softly scoffs, grumbles, climbs down off the bar stool and staggers out the front door. A few minutes later, the same biker stumbles in the SIDE door of the bar. He wobbles up to the bar and hollers for a drink.
The bartender comes over and emphatically reminds the man that he is clearly drunk, will be served no drinks, and either a cab or the police will be called immediately. The surprised biker looks at the bartender, and in hopeless anguish, cries "MAAAN! How many bars do you work at?!!?
The Sparrow A guy is riding along a country lane, when a sparrow flies up in front of him. The biker can't do anything and hits the sparrow. As he looks in his rear view mirror, he sees the sparrow lying in the road. Being the kind of guy he is, he stops, picks up the sparrow and takes it home and puts it in a cage, still in a coma. When the sparrow wakes up the following morning, he looks through the bars of the cage and says, "Shit, I must have killed the biker"
Blonde
A blonde was speeding in a 35 mile per hour zone when a local police officer pulled her over and walked up to the car. The officer also happened to be a blonde and she asked for the blonde's driver's license. The driver searched frantically in her purse for a while and finally said to the blonde policewoman, "What does a driver's license look like?" Irritated, the The bartender comes over and, blonde cop said, "You dummy, it's still politely - but more firmly, refuses service to the man due to his got your picture on it!" The blonde inebriation, and again offers to call driver frantically searched her purse again and found a small, rectangular a cab. mirror down at the bottom. He thinks to himself, "It's not a ship" The speck gets a little closer and he thinks, "It's not a boat" The speck gets even closer and he thinks, "It's not a raft" Then, out of the surf comes this gorgeous blonde woman, wearing a wet suit and scuba gear. She comes up to the guy and she says, "How long has it been since you've had a cigarette?" "Ten years!" he says. She reaches over, unzips a waterproof pocket on her left sleeve and pulls out a pack of fresh cigarettes. He takes one, lights it, takes a long drag and says, "Man, oh man! Is that good!" Then she asks, "How long has it been since you've had a drink of whiskey?" He replies, "Ten years!" She reaches over, unzips her waterproof pocket on the right, pulls out a flask and gives it to him. He takes a long swig and says, "Wow, that's fantastic!" Then she starts unzipping this long zipper that runs down the front of her wet suit and she says to him, "And how long has it been since you've had some REAL fun?" And the man replies, "My God! Now This Is Bad Luck A little guy is sitting in a bar staring at his drink for over an hour. A big ugly biker walks up to the bar, takes the little guy’s drink and gulps it down. Then looks at the little guy as if to say now what you going to do about it. The little guy starts to cry. The big guy says," Ah now I didn't mean to make you cry. I hate to see a man cry." The little guy starts to explain,"I woke up late this morning missed an important meeting, my boss fired me. Went to the parking lot to find somebody stole my car, had no insurance. Left my wallet in the cab I took home, found my wife in bed with another man, and my dog bit me. I came in here trying to get up the courage to kill myself, and now you went and drank the damn potion." He is out on a ride There's a fellow who is an avid rider. Actually he's a motorcycle fanatic. He has not missed a weekend of motorcycle riding in years. Every Saturday and Sunday morning he gets up very early and goes meets his buddies for a nice long ride. On this one morning, he gets up early, dresses quietly, gets his riding gear out of the closet, and goes out to the garage to prepare to leave. While out there it started raining a torrential downpour. There was snow mixed with the rain and the wind is blowing at 40 mph. He comes back into the house and turns the TV to the Weather Channel. From there he finds it's going to be bad weather all day long. So he puts his bike back into the garage and comes back inside. He quietly undresses and slips back into bed where he cuddles up to his wife's back, and whispers, "The weather out there is
terrible." To which she replies, "Can you believe my stupid husband is out riding his bike today?" Unemployment Benefits Billy Bob and Rufus worked together in a Georgia clothing factory and both were laid off. They went to the unemployment office. When asked his occupation, Billy Bob said "Panty Stitcher.. I sew elastic into cotton panties." The clerk looked up "panty stitcher" and noticed it was listed as unskilled labor. She put Billy Bob down to receive $300 a week in unemployment pay. She then asked Rufus what his occupation is and he said "Diesel Fitter" which was listed as skilled labor. Rufus was to be given $600 a week. When Billy Bob found out he was furious. He stormed back into the office to find out why his co-worker got twice the money. The clerk explained that a "Panty Stitcher" is unskilled labor where a "Diesel Fitter" is skilled labor. "What skill," Billy Bob yelled, "I sew the elastic on the panties and Rufus puts them over his head and says "diesel fitter". Louisville? Two guys were riding in a car, arguing about how to say the name of the city that they were in. One said "Louieville" and the other "Louiseville." They went on arguing and arguing, until they came upon a fast-food restaurant. The one guy goes inside and says to the waitress, "Tell me the name of the place where I am right now really, really, really slowly." The waitress goes, "Bur-ger-King."

Readers Ride A trip to Benezette Pa, By Otto Anderson Well , on a recent summer weekend the decision was made to take a ride to see the Elk herd near Benezette Pa. From the New Castle area that makes a nice day trip with a bit of time for beer drinking or rubbernecking. Like any trip you can jump on the boulevard & motor there or putt along a more scenic route. Since we were going to make a day of it the road less traveled was the choice. Rt 108 out of New Castle took us over to Rt 8. A short drive North and you come to Rt 58 in Harrisville. Heading East from there you get some winding sections of the highway before it drops down to the Allegheny River at Foxburg. One stretch along there always brings back a special moment I had. On a previous ride, just before dropping over a little hill I saw less then 50 ft above me I saw an an adult Bald Eagle soaring. What stuck in my mind was the vivid white color of the wings. Every time I crest the knoll , I can see that Eagle gliding . Down along the river is a watering hole that is pretty well known judging by the number of bikes there. The Foxburg Inn is the place I am speaking of and it is always nice to sit by the river for a beer
and a bite to eat. That wasn't the case today as the timing wasn't right. The day was one of those with lots of clouds with sunshine in abundance. I always enjoy watching the clouds and find it interesting to try and dodge the black ones if possible. We slid past a small black one only to get dampened by the gray sky behind it. Didn't dampen our spirits for the ride , especially as the sun was trying to shine while we were getting rained on. Rt 58 goes out of Foxburg and then makes a right up a hill. The quality of the road is not the greatest and the 40 MPH speed limit is just right. Crossing the Clarion River is a pleasant view and only a short distance from the Allegheny . Only a few miles of that to deal with until it turns into Rt 68 and the ride smooths out. Got to chuckle when you see the 12' dairy cow on the right. Shortly after you get on 68. Pretty soon you come to I 80. We got on and rode East to Hazen, Exit 81 ( about 20 miles ). Rt 28N is a pleasant ride into Brockway where we took Rt 219N until Rt 153 goes right towards Rt 255 in Penfield. That stretch is not the smoothest either , but hey we were on a sightseeing trip. You get to see more traveling slower! 255 takes you
right into the Metropolis of Benezette and a friendly little Tavern that has good food & cold drinks. Hit the spot ! Now the problem with a trip like this to see the Elk is the Elk. They are not always cooperative. They tend to be most active and visable in the morning or evening. There are several viewing areas and a real nice visitor center but there is no telling what the Elk will do. They might be in those areas or in amongst the peoples backyards. They might not even be around for your viewing pleasure. Patience may be required ! The photos are from a different trip when they were more cooperative. Once you get up there , it's all good and we like to putt around on back roads just to take it in. Plenty of places to stretch your legs . After getting to see a few of the elusive Elk, we had spent enough time on back roads that we hit the main drag for the journey back. Had a great ride and it's not like you can pick a road devoid of scenery in this part of PA . Ride safe.
Found but never lost A tribute to the many great people and businesses in Western Pennsylvania Western Pennsylvania is home to many unknown, great manufacturers. My goal is to spread the word about as many of them as I can. The first one is on Knievel Cycles in Greenville,Pa. When I started working on sales for The Bikers Trading Post I would come across links on the Internet that said Knievel Cycle in Mercer County. I looked for any information I could on them and couldn't find anything. On one of my trips, I even put the address in my GPS unit and still couldn't find anything. Then, as I was talking to the young man at A. K. Miller Motorcycle Parts and he told me to go see Robbie Knievel's place up the road. Much to my surprise it was the son of famed daredevil/the famous/legend Evil Knievel. Knievel Cycles is the old Chevy dealership in Greenville, Pa. Now you have to realize that at my age, we grew up in a time when Evil Knievel was the king of all daredevils. They would announce for months in advance when he was doing a jump and at that time we would all be glued to the set (in B+W) to watch. He holds 7 of the top 12 highest viewed programs ever based on the percentage of home viewership. Now remember, we only had 3 networks in those days. His 1975 jump at Kings Island is the number one in home viewership ever. His History Channel documentary called Pure Evil is the highest viewed documentary on the History Channel ever. My first question was, “why are you here?” Ok, now I don't know if the very nice lady working there had a warped sense of humor like me, or didn't grasp what I was trying to find out, but her reply was, “because we outgrew our space in Hermitage.” Now I wanted to find out a little more and she introduced me to Rob McCollum .
In talking with Rob, he informed me that Knievel Cycles was formed in New Jersey in 2006 by Robbie Knievel and a couple of friends. In 2008, they opened the manufacturing facility in Hermitage because Rob was from this area and, having experience in manufacturing, he knew that this area had many advantages to any other place in the country. Western Pa. has a low cost of manufacturing with a great labor pool that has a lot of experience. This part of the country is within 500 miles of about 85% of the industry in the U.S., making it easy to get parts and subcontractors. With his connections and experience in manufacturing he was able to put together a great team for the company. The majority of the motorcycle production is exported overseas, but with the oil boom again in Texas and the economy turning a little, they are seeing the market come back on this type of motorcycle. They are working on adding new dealers in the U.S. in addition to a new one in South Florida and Texas. I found a lot that really made them stand out as a leader in the market. At this time they join Victory and Harley Davidson as the only three companies in the U.S. to have whole Vehicle Type Approval from all 27 European Communities and the first one offering custom motorcycles. The EU-03 regulations are the most strict in the world and about 3 times stricter then the California standards. In 2011 they were licensed by the Collegiate Licensing Company to manufacture officially licensed College logo motorcycles and have now signed on with Major League Baseball. Now for the part I liked the best. Their motorcycles are produced with Evil Knievel's belief: “The philosophy
of Evil Knievel was that there is no better country in the world than the United States. We combine the best in American technology and American manufacturing to build a production custom motorcycle unlike any other.” The latest news for Knievel Cycles is a brand new motorcycle that they just finished working on and is named, for a good reason, Diablo. They are categorizing as a Street Tracker and I was told that it is a blast to ride and comes standard with Nitrous Oxide. For some reason they didn't let me take it for a test ride. Watch future issues for the release because I was not allowed to photograph this bike before the official release. They developed the Nitrous Oxide system to accompany the fuel injection system to pass the EU standards. They are using the 80 cubic inch Harley Evo motor enhanced by fuel injection to deliver better horsepower, giving the advantage of having warranty service performed at any Harley Davidson certified shop. Also offered is one-off customs like the Steelers bike, and a Cobra bike that is owned by a local veterinarian. Kristin Knievel,granddaughter of Evil Knievel, will be hosting a new TV show that is currently in production at this time and will be hosted on a new website that will be announced soon, and is in negotiations with some of the networks. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur, "Since you've been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is you can hang out with anyone you want in heaven." Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, "I want to hang out with God." St. Peter took Arthur to the throne room, and introduced him to God. The Kiss A tough looking group of bikers were out riding when they saw a girl about to jump off a bridge so they stopped. The leader, a big burly man gets off his bike and says, "what are you doing?" "I'm going to commit suicide" she said. While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn't want to miss an
opportunity so he asked..."well before you jump, why don't you give me a kiss?" So she does.… And it was a long, deep, lingering kiss. After she's finished, the biker says, "Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had. That's a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous. Why are you committing suicide?" "My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl." HEALTH QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true? A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... Don't waste them on exercise . Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap. Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake? A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up! Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc. Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE AN OLD BIKER (not that any of y'all are old) Biker George was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked, "Is someone in your house?" and he said "No." Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. "Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all." Then he hung up. Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!" And the thought for the month Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! Readers Ride A slow ride to Erie Pa by Don. One of my greatest times is taking a nice slow day ride by myself to just go where I want and do what I want and at the pace that I want. This past week was one of them and it was great to just take a day and spend it as Don time. My destination was to head twd. Erie Pa. And just see where things took me. I started early to get a jump on the day. It was a little unseasonably cold with the temperature at 41 clear skys and very damp at about 8:00 a.m. on a Monday morning. I knew it was going to be cold but being in layers and pacing my day I knew it would be a nice day to be out. I wasn’t on the road for more than five minutes when I came across two Jeep Liberty's kissing at an intersection. Maybe they just don't get along with each other. When you look at that as you travel on the road you realize that if they are unable to see each other then how can they ever see us. My favorite road trips are always the road least traveled so on my way to Erie I like to take Rt. 19 and check out all the small towns along the route like Zelienople, Mercer and many of the real small towns like Saegertown and Cambridge Springs. I jumped on to 422 to check out New Castle Harley but I guess I just wasnt thinking about the time because they dont open till 10. In planning the day I didn't get gas before hand because with it being chilly I knew it would give me a good excuse to stop at the Sheetz in Mercer and take a gas and coffee break. I think they plan things like that because about 40 miles up the road there is another Sheetz. Spending a little time at both Sheetz put me running to where
Street Track and Trail was open and I went in to check out what they had on hand. I cant believe the paint jobs on some of the new Harleys. Talking to Mr. Moyer who is one of the sales people there we were looking at a new Harley Street Bob that had the deepest metallic red paint I think I have ever seen. Definitely a nice place to stop along the ride. From there I went back to where 19 hits 322/6 and I go straight on to 98 witch takes you right to the lake. If you follow 98 to Rt 5 and go straight it will take you to Trout Run. I never hit Erie without checking it out there. The Steelhead were just starting to come in to the creek and there were about 25 or 30 in the mouth of the creek. Now this is the reason that I like to go for a ride like this. I had nowhere that I had to be at any time so I could just ramble around at my pace. I stopped at the new Harley Davidson of Erie store and wow what a store that is. They took a grocery store and turned it into a Harley Store. I could just imagine the wild and crazy parties that they could have in that parking lot. Surprisingly for a Monday morning they were busy but the young lady at the front counter took a lot of time with me and explained about the store. They have what looks to me like the largest selection of Harleys in Western Pa. It is definitely a place to stop in Erie if you are ever up there. Leaving Erie Harley I went down to see if there were any fishermen at Walnut Creek fishing on what they call the wall of nuts. There were a few and they were catching a few fish but the thing about the fish is they were really nice. I talked to one couple that had 4 and smallest one was 9 lb 14 oz.
From here I went out to Presque Isle to ride around the park and stop and check things out and do a little walking. This has always been one of my favorite places to go and just kill a day. There is so much to do up at this state park and on a normal week day the crowd is not that busy. I normally have Mondays off so that is the day I like to go to places like this and beat the crowds. The temperature only got up to 61 so hanging out and walking was nice but the wind was still really cold but that was ok I planned on being home around dark. For some reason when I do a road trip I never get to where I wanted to be at the time I planned or get back at the time I planned either. There are just too many places to see, things to do and great food to eat for me to not get detoured along the way. On my way back towards Cranberry I had to stop by a new ( well new to me ) place I heard of and that is JD’s Tap House in Meadeville. When I got there the place was slow which is typical for 7:30 on a Monday night at most bars. But the owners were there and a handfull of customers along with two lovely bartenders. This place is a great friendly stop on any ride, they have 17 beers on tap. I was planing on being home for supper but it was already dark out and I decided I should eat somewhere so back on Rt 19 I stopped at Nate’s and grabbed a burger. I have been there before and the food is always good. Well now so much for being home before dark it was 10:30 when I pulled in. This is my kind of day. Mines and Meadows. I grew up a country boy on a small farm near McConnells Mills. Most of the people I have dealt with with over time were middle class working in the mills, strip mines and farms. The people that I knew that rode motorcycles were also the people that had off road vehicles,guns, and pickup trucks. Last week I had a meeting with a superintendent of a high school and in talking with him I found out he rode. I went to the car and brought him in one of the magazines to review. As he was looking through it he brought up that he also was into hunting riding trails on his 4-wheeler and had a pick up truck. So that brings us to this piece. This time of year and over the next few months many of us are looking for something that can still give us the thrill of a ride. With it getting harder and harder to find good trails to ride on private land and the cost of driving up to the State trails getting higher there are now some other options. Bob Svihra came up with a real unique one. Mines and Meadows ATV riding resort in Wampum Pa that is just off Rt 18 and only minutes from the Pa Turnpike and Rt 376. For $25.00 you can spend the day
riding on about 75 miles of trails on more then 650 acres. Not only can you ride in the fields and woods there is also the remains of an oval race track that allows you to climb the banks as you race around that track. But the real draw that makes this different from any other place to ride is that they lease some land off Underland Development Corporation that owned the former Snow Top Mushroom Mine. Riders are permitted to drive through the back side of the mine where there is an underground lake, total darkness and many surprises. The entrance to the mine is made of stacked railroad ties and is just big enough to fit an ATV through. Inside the mine it is a constant 55 degrees which is a nice change from the heat in the summer and the cold during the winter. Also on the property is the remains of a 25 room mansion that was built in 1910 by D.M.Kirk who constructed Crescent Portland Cement Co that became Medusa Cement Company and is now CEMEX that was destroyed by a fire in December of 1974. All riders here must have a valid drivers licenses and provide proof of insurance and, with a change in a state law in 2004 that is granted to ATV parks, fall into the same cate-
gory as ski resorts with assumed risk by participants, who must sign a waiver. Svihra has invested nearly $2 million into this project , being driven by a love for the sport and a desire to pass along some of the joy of a sport that others might not have the opportunity to enjoy. I talked to several people that have been riding at the Mines and Meadows and they all gave high reviews of the trails. With gently rolling hills, to the hill climbs and the ability to run from easy to rough trails, it is a great place where you don't have to worry about being on private property and the trails are very well marked. Also some of the people are not interested in riding in the mines but for those that are a little more adventurous it is an opportunity to see things that you have never seen before and ride a ride that you could never experience. Cleverly hide old oil filter among trash in trash can to avoid environmental penalties. Drink a beer. 17)Install new oil filter making sure to apply a thin coat of oil to gasket surface.

And all this time I thought my GPS unit wanted to kill me. Ever since I bought my GPS unit I thought it wanted to kill me. I started doing sales for The Bikers Trading Post and things really started going crazy. I was in Venango county driving along a country road with no guard rail and about a two hundred foot cliff on the right and the GPS unit started really screaming turn right now. This GPS unit was really good at taking me through every trailer park where when I got in there was no where to even turn around. I was in Pittsburgh the other day and it ran me through every ghetto that was in a fifty mile radius. I never realized but after spending time in Crawford county the GPS unit can ask if you want to take dirt roads or paved roads. I tell it paved and it still takes me down every dirt road it can find. I went to the Rumble on the river in Tionesta this year and it ran me down a dirt road that I don't think was even
one lane. I come to the intersection and there is a highway about half a mile from where the event is being held. It will send me the wrong way down busy one way streets and try to turn me into the jersey barriers. But after coming back from Pittsburgh I had it programmed to take me home and I decided to stop at Lutz’s Leathers on the way home so I turned left instead of right and that is where I figured out the problem. The GPS unit screamed at me “turn right you dumb shit� At that point I realized the problem. You see, when I programmed the unit it gave a choice of voices you could use as to a guy or a girl. Of course I chose a girl. Then you had a choice of accent that you wanted them to have and I chose none. And last, you could pick one of about ten names for the GPS unit. Well me with my warped sense of humor I chose my ex wife's name. So there is the problem. When it yells at me it
sounds just like ma and I think she always had it in the back of her mind to try and kill me to. Tell us. Neighborhood Hazard By Anonymous I never dreamed slowly cruising through a residential neighborhood could be so incredibly dangerous! Studies have shown that motorcycling requires more decisions per second, and more sheer data processing than nearly any other common activity or sport. The reactions and accurate decision making abilities needed have been likened to the reactions of fighter pilots! The consequences of bad decisions or poor situational awareness are pretty much the same for both groups too. Occasionally, as a rider I have caught myself starting to make bad or late decisions while riding. In flight training, my instructors called this being “behind the power curve”. It is a mark of experience that when this begins to happen, the rider recognizes the situation, and more importantly, does something about it. A short break, a meal, or even a gas stop can set things right again as it gives the brain a chance to catch up. Good, accurate, and timely decisions are essential when riding a motorcycle…at least if you want to remain among the living. In short, the brain needs to keep up with the machine. I had been banging around the roads of east Texas and as I headed back into Dallas, found myself in very heavy, high-speed traffic on the freeways. Normally, this is not a problem, I commute in these conditions daily, but suddenly I was nearly run down by a cage that decided it needed my lane more than I did. This is not normally a big deal either, as it happens around here often, but usually I can accurately predict which drivers are not paying attention and avoid them before we are even close. This one I missed
seeing until it was nearly too late, and as I took evasive action I nearly broadsided another car that I was not even aware was there!
“Die you gravy-sucking, heathen scum!” as the leap was spectacular and he flew over the windshield and impacted me squarely in the chest.
Two bad decisions and insufficient situational awareness…all within seconds. I was behind the power curve. Time to get off the freeway.
Instantly he set upon me. If I did not know better I would have sworn he brought twenty of his little buddies along for the attack. Snarling, hissing, and tearing at my clothes, he was a frenzy of activity. As I was dressed only in a light t-shirt, summer riding gloves, and jeans this was a bit of a cause for concern. This furry little tornado was doing some damage!
I hit the next exit, and as I was in an area I knew pretty well, headed through a few big residential neighborhoods as a new route home. As I turned onto the nearly empty streets I opened the visor on my full-face helmet to help get some air. I figured some slow riding through the quiet surface streets would give me time to relax, think, and regain that “edge” so frequently required when riding. Little did I suspect… As I passed an oncoming car, a brown furry missile shot out from under it and tumbled to a stop immediately in front of me. It was a squirrel, and must have been trying to run across the road when it encountered the car. I really was not going very fast, but there was no time to brake or avoid it—it was that close. I hate to run over animals…and I really hate it on a motorcycle, but a squirrel should pose no danger to me. I barely had time to brace for the impact. Animal lovers, never fear. Squirrels can take care of themselves! Inches before impact, the squirrel flipped to his feet. He was standing on his hind legs and facing the oncoming Valkyrie with steadfast resolve in his little beady eyes. His mouth opened, and at the last possible second, he screamed and leapt! I am pretty sure the scream was squirrel for, “Banzai!” or maybe,
Picture a large man on a huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a t-shirt, and leather gloves puttering maybe 25mph down a quiet residential street…and in the fight of his life with a squirrel. And losing. I grabbed for him with my left hand and managed to snag his tail. With all my strength I flung the evil rodent off the left of the bike, almost running into the right curb as I recoiled from the throw. That should have done it. The matter should have ended right there. It really should have. The squirrel could have sailed into one of the pristinely kept yards and gone on about his business, and I could have headed home. No one would have been the wiser. But this was no ordinary squirrel. This was not even an ordinary pissed-off squirrel. This was an evil attack squirrel of death! Somehow he caught my gloved finger with one of his little hands, and with the force of the throw swung around and with a resounding thump and an amazing impact he landed square on my back and resumed his rather anti-social and ex-
tremely distracting activities. He also managed to take my left glove with him! The situation was not improved. Not improved at all. His attacks were continuing, and now I could not reach him.I was startled to say the least. The combination of the force of the throw, only having one hand (the throttle hand) on the handlebars, and my jerking back unfortunately put a healthy twist through my right hand and into the throttle. A healthy twist on the throttle of a Valkyrie can only have one result. Torque. This is what the Valkyrie is made for, and she is very, very good at it. The engine roared as the front wheel left the pavement. The squirrel screamed in anger. The Valkyrie screamed in ecstasy. I screamed in…well…I just plain screamed. Now picture a large man on a huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a slightly squirrel torn tshirt, and only one leather glove roaring at maybe 70mph and rapidly accelerating down a quiet residential street…on one wheel and with a demonic squirrel on his back. The man and the squirrel are both screaming bloody murder. With the sudden acceleration I was forced to put my other hand back on the handlebars and try to get control of the bike. This was leaving the mutant squirrel to his own devices, but I really did not want to crash into somebody’s tree, house, or parked car. Also, I had not yet figured out how to release the throttle…my brain was just simply overloaded. I did manage to mash the back brake, but it had little affect against the massive power of the big cruiser.
About this time the squirrel decided that I was not paying sufficient attention to this very serious battle (maybe he is a Scottish attack squirrel of death), and he came around my neck and got IN my full-face helmet with me. As the faceplate closed partway and he began hissing in my face I am quite sure my screaming changed tone and intensity. It seemed to have little affect on the squirrel however. The rpm’s on The Dragon maxed out (I was not concerned about shifting at the moment) and her front end started to drop. Now picture the large man on the huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a very ragged torn t-shirt, and wearing one leather glove, roaring at probably 80mph, still on one wheel, with a large puffy squirrel’s tail sticking out his mostly closed full-face helmet. By now the screams are probably getting a little hoarse. Finally I got the upper hand…I managed to grab his tail again, pulled him out of my helmet, and slung him to the left as hard as I could. This time it worked…sort-of. Spectacularly sort-of, so to speak. Picture the scene. You are a cop. You and your partner have pulled off on a quiet residential street and parked with your windows down to do some paperwork. Suddenly a large man on a huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a torn t-shirt flapping in the breeze, and wearing one leather glove, moving at probably 80mph on one wheel, and screaming bloody murder roars by and with all his strength throws a live squirrel grenade directly into your police car. I heard screams. They weren't mine...
I managed to get the big motorcycle under directional control and dropped the front wheel to the ground. I then used maximum braking and skidded to a stop in a cloud of tire smoke at the stop sign at a busy cross street. I would have returned to fess up (and to get my glove back). I really would have. Really. But for two things. First, the cops did not seem interested or the slightest bit concerned about me at the moment. One of them was on his back in the front yard of the house they had been parked in front of and was rapidly crabbing backwards away from the patrol car. The other was standing in the street and was training a riot shotgun on the police cruiser. So the cops were not interested in me. They often insist to “let the professionals handle it” anyway. That was one thing. The other? Well, I swear I could see the squirrel, standing in the back window of the patrol car among shredded and flying pieces of foam and upholstery, and shaking his little fist at me. I think he was shooting me the finger… That is one dangerous squirrel. And now he has a patrol car… I took a deep breath, turned on my turn-signal, made an easy right turn, and sedately left the neighborhood. As for my easy and slow drive home? Screw it. Faced with a choice of 80mph cars and inattentive drivers, or the evil, demonic, attack squirrel of death… I’ll take my chances with the freeway. Every time. And I’ll buy myself a new pair of gloves.
Indoor Bike Night at JD’s Tap House What can a fun-loving biker do in Western Pa on a cold November night? Well leave it up to Dan and Michelle at JD’s Tap House to come up with something fun, creative, and just down right crazy. I had the pleasure of attending their indoor bike night on the 17th of November that also included three birthdays for Shawn, Sam and Dan from JD’sTap House and consisted of 115 candles in forest fire formation on cupcakes. The gang in Meadville can really pull of a fun night with a DJ, bike games with prizes, a new exotic drink menu and 34 beers on tap including a lot of craft beers that I have never heard of. Oh and you can’t forget the food and hot barmaids. The night started off with what looked like a forest fire in the back of the trolley car when they lit candles on cupcakes for all three birthday boys at the same time. By the time they got the last of the candles lit the first ones lit were pretty melted down. After blowing out the forest fire of candles it was announced to let the games begin. They started out with the Slow Ride race but they were using the smallest two wheelers that I have ever seen. In the
beginning I was looking for a good vantage point to get a few photos of the race when one of the racers took off down the road on the bike. I could just imagine someone driving down the road and being passed by a large full grown man on a bicycle made for a three year old. After a few minutes he returned and the races began. The races went off without too much problems except for two people. I think Michelle purposely tried to take Dan out on their try. With a full crowd watching it was determined that the slowest person there was Shawn. This event was held in the parking lot so when it was over it was time to head back inside to a full house for warmth and a little more alcohol to get the blood flowing. Next we had the Pole and Roll race. Now in watching this I am wondering how the human race continues. In this race the girl puts a roll of toilet paper between her legs and the guy has a plunger between his and he has to stick the handle of the plunger in the tube of the roll of toilet paper and they have to walk down to the finish line with the first one reaching it being the winner. Oh and no hands are allowed to be used. This made for some great laughs and created a little ani-
mosity between a few couples as their performance was evaluated. In the end when it was all said and done Sam and Autumn were the winners. As you know, practice makes for a better chance of winning so I think I am going to find a partner for next time and spend a lot of time practicing. Last before I left was the Weenie Bite contest. Now this is a little different than the weenie bite contests than you normally see. What they do is the guy pushes the girl on a tiny tri-cycle under the hot dog and the winner is the girl that can bite the biggest piece of the hot dog. Now this has to be the tiniest tri-cycle that I have ever seen. Once again, things were a little crazy and went off smoothly except for one couple. I think this time Dan was out for revenge from the first race and Michelle ended up being a casualty in this game. On purpose or by accident I am not going to say but it did seem a little fishy. Michelle ended up crashed on the ground with everyone just standing around laughing. The winner of the weenie bite was Steve and Tammie. The crew in Meadville and at JD’s Tap House really know how to have a great time and I look forward to spending time up there again.
Renting and test driving the Can-Am Spyder I was on the phone one day with Jeff Richards and he was telling me that Leisure Time Powersports was now renting out the Can-Am Spiders. So with that said, I did a little research and then went up and talked to Jeff about it. He was able to tell me a lot about their history and answer any questions that I had from the little research I did before going up there.
Now this really intrigued me because I know most of you all have seen these bikes on the street, but I would be afraid to buy something that I wasn't real sure about. Everyone I talked to who has bought one after owning a conventional motorcycle has said it will take a little while of riding to get used to it and comfortable riding it. The Spyders are fairly new, with the first one with the serial number of 001 being delivered to Jay Leno’s garage in Burbank, California in October of 2007.

Steering is a lot different because you do not lean and to steer it is more like turning a car, or even a little more like steering a four wheeler. That seemed a little odd but after about 10 miles an a semi windy road it becomes natural.

How to rope a deer Some recommendations by Anonymous I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it. The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. I figured that since they congregated at my cattle feeder and do not seem to have much fear of me when we are there (a bold one will sometimes come right up and sniff at the bags of feed while I am in the back of the truck not 4 feet away) that it should not be difficult to rope one, get up to it and toss a bag over its head (to calm it down) then hog tie it and transport it home. I filled the cattle feeder then hid down at the end with my rope. The cattle, who had seen the roping thing before, stayed well back. They were not having any of it. After about 20 minutes my deer showed up…3 of them. I picked out a likely looking one, stepped out from the end of the feeder, and threw my rope. The deer just stood there and stared at me. I wrapped the rope around my waist and twisted the end so I would have a good hold. The deer still just stood and stared at me, but you could tell it was mildly concerned about the whole rope situation. I took a step towards it. It took a step away. I put a little tension on the rope and received an education. The first thing that I learned is that while a deer may just stand there looking at you funny while you rope it, they are spurred to action when you start pulling on that rope. That deer EXPLODED. The second thing I learned is that pound for pound, a deer is a LOT stronger than a cow or a colt. A cow or a colt in that weight range I could fight down with a rope with some dignity. A deer, no chance. That thing ran and bucked and twisted and pulled. There was no controlling it and certainly no getting close to it. As it jerked me off my feet and started dragging me across the ground, it occurred to me that having a deer on a rope was not nearly as good an idea as I originally imagined. The only up side is that they do not have as much stamina as many animals. A brief 10 minutes later, it was tired and not nearly as quick to jerk me off my feet and drag me when I managed to get up. It took me a few minutes to realize this, since I was mostly blinded by the blood flowing out of the big gash in my head. At that point I had lost my taste for corn fed venison. I just wanted to get that devil creature off the end of that rope. I figured if I just let it go with the rope hanging around its neck, it would likely die slow and painfully somewhere. At the time, there was no love at
all between me and that deer. At that moment, I hated the thing and I would venture a guess that the feeling was mutual. Despite the gash in my head and the several large knots where I had cleverly arrested the deer's momentum by bracing my head against various large rocks as it dragged me across the ground, I could still think clearly enough to recognize that there was a small chance that I shared some tiny amount of responsibility for the situation we were in, so I didn't want the deer to have to suffer a slow death. I managed to get it lined up to back in between my truck and the feeder…a little trap I had set beforehand. Kind of like a squeeze chute. I got it to back in there and started moving up so I could get my rope back. Did you know that deer bite? They do! I never in a million years would have thought that a deer would bite somebody so I was very surprised when I reached up there to grab that rope and the deer grabbed hold of my wrist. Now, when a deer bites you, it is not like being bit by a horse where they just bite you and then let go. A deer bites you and shakes its head…almost like a pit bull. They bite HARD and it hurts. The proper thing to do when a deer bites you is probably to freeze and draw back slowly. I tried screaming and shaking instead. My method was ineffective. It seems like the deer was biting and shaking for several minutes, but it was likely only several seconds. I, being smarter than a deer (though you may be questioning that claim by now) tricked it. While I kept it busy tearing the bejesus out of my right arm, I reached up with my left hand and pulled that rope loose. That was when I got my final lesson in deer behavior for the day. Deer will strike at you with their front feet. They rear right up on their back feet and strike right about head and shoulder level, and their hooves are surprisingly sharp. I learned a long time ago that when an animal like a horse strikes at you with their hooves and you can't get away easily, the best thing to do is try to make a loud noise and make an aggressive move towards the animal. This will usually cause them to back down a bit so you can escape. This was not a horse. This was a deer, so obviously such trickery would not work. In the course of a millisecond I devised a different strategy. I screamed like woman and tried to turn and run. The reason I had always been told NOT to try to turn and run from a horse that paws at you is that there is a good chance that it will hit you in the back of the head. Deer may not be so different from horses after all, besides being twice as strong and three times as evil, because the second I turned to run, it hit me right in the back of the head and knocked me down.
Now when a deer paws at you and knocks you down it does not immediately leave. I suspect it does not recognize that the danger has passed. What they do instead is paw your back and jump up and down on you while you are laying there crying like a little girl and covering your head. I finally managed to crawl under the truck and the deer went away. Now for the local legend. I was pretty beat up. My scalp was split open, I had several large goose eggs, my wrist was bleeding pretty good and felt broken (it turned out to be just badly bruised) and my back was bleeding in a few places, though my insulated canvas jacket had protected me from most of the worst of it. I drove to the nearest place, which was the co-op. I got out of the truck, covered in blood and dust and looking like hell. The guy who ran the place saw me through the window and came running out yelling "what happened" I have never seen any law in the state of Kansas that would prohibit an individual from roping a deer. I suspect that this is an area that they have overlooked entirely. Knowing, as I do, the lengths to which law enforcement personnel will go to exercise their power, I was concerned that they may find a way to twist the existing laws to paint my actions as criminal. I swear….not wanting to admit that I had done something monumentally stupid played no part in my response. I told him "I was attacked by a deer.” I did not mention that at the time I had a rope on it. The evidence was all over my body. Deer prints on the back of my jacket where it had stomped all over me and a large deer print on my face where it had struck me there. I asked him to call somebody to come get me…I didn't think I could make it home on my own. He did. Later that afternoon, a game warden showed up at my house and wanted to know about the deer attack. Surprisingly, deer attacks are a rare thing and wildlife and parks was interested in the event. I tried to describe the attack as completely and accurately as I could…I was filling the grain hopper and this deer came out of nowhere and just started kicking the hell out of me and BIT me. It was obviously rabid or insane or something. EVERYBODY for miles around knows about the deer attack (the guy at the co-op has a big mouth). For several weeks people dragged their kids in the house when they saw deer around and the local ranchers carried rifles when they filled their feeders. I have told several people the story, but NEVER anybody around here. I have to see these people every day and as an outsider…a "city folk"…I have enough trouble fitting in without them snickering behind my back and whispering "there is the dumbass that tried to rope the deer.

“The Most Important Motorcycle Purchase Ever: Your Insurance” If you own a motorcycle choose your insurance wisely. Many people think of motorcycle insurance as just another bill. Moreover, many motorcycle owners believe they only need insurance to fix the chrome on the bike should an accident occur. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of minor motorcycle accidents. If you or a family member are seriously injured or killed in a motorcycle accident, insurance choices that you made prior to the accident will absolutely dictate, and all too often limit your right to recover money damages. The most important insurance for safeguarding you and your family involves the underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. Always purchase this coverage. If you are injured or killed in a crash and the at-fault driver is inadequately insured, you or your estate can make a claim against your underinsured motorist coverage. Keep in mind that the minimum liability coverage in Pennsylvania is a measly $15,000.00. If your injury claim is worth $100,000.00 and you failed to purchase underinsured motorist coverage, you are stuck with only the $15,000.00 offered by the at-fault driver’s insurance. If you are seriously injured and cannot work for a period of time, you can see the importance of this coverage. Uninsured motorist coverage allows you to make a claim against your own insurance coverage if you are injured by an uninsured driver. You would be surprised at the number of irresponsible uninsured drivers on our roads. In sum, underinsured and uninsured coverage allow you to insure yourself and your family against inadequately insured and uninsured drivers on our roads. I recommend you purchase at a bare minimum no less than $100,000.00 in underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage, and I recommend even higher limits if you can afford it. What if your injuries took away your ability to work for the rest of your life? If you can afford it, purchase $250,000, $500,000 or $1,000,000 in underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. Finally, if you insure more than one motorcycle be sure to tell your agent that you wish to “stack” the underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. This allows you to effectively increase your coverage by a multiple equal to the number of motorcycles insured on your policy. You should also be sure to purchase stacking on your automobile policy. If done properly you may be able to recover additional underinsured or uninsured coverage from your motor vehicle policy as well. Purchasing motorcycle insurance is critically important to safeguarding you and your family. How to cure the Winter Time Blues. On the Saturday after Christmas I took my son an a short day trip to Ravenna, Ohio to meet up with Bear from Bear’s Vintage Metalworks. I have been past there several times because we do a hot air balloon event every year in Ravenna. I have also seen some of his flyers and information at different events in the area. We knew this was a truly friendly place when we were greeted by a friendly canine and his wife offered everyone cookies. Another thing that states that this is a very friendly place are the photos lining the display cases of their regular customers (and a few hot chicks) that frequent Bear’s It was a great experience to meet Bear, his wife Sharon and the crew who works there. Bear claims to have always been into Harleys being the only one in his high school class that rode one to school. After meeting his wife Sharon he included her in his love of all things Harley and joined the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. A short time later Sharon actually traded her wedding ring in for a 1962 Harley Servi-Car 3 wheeler that she still has on display in the back of the store. Bear went on to work on and sell parts in the basement of his apartment for several years before opening up his first store called Bears Bike & Welding that was located at 415 W. Main St. In Ravenna. Opening in 1980 Bear was now working his dream job until January 21,1984 when tragedy struck and a fire leveled the building, totally destroying everything. The fire destroyed Bears bike along with a large collection of Harley parts and memorabilia that could
never be replaced. After the fire, Bear and Sharon moved on to different business ventures, but still rode as much as possible. Bear also continued his love of Harleys by rebuilding old Panheads, Knuckleheads and antique Linkert carburetors in his barn.

23 years after the fire Bear and Sharon bought the old feed mill in Ravenna when it went up for sale and remodeled the store to create Bear’s Vintage Metalworks which opened March of 2007. Motorcycle and Memorabilia Museum NOW OPEN at Bear's Vintage Store!!
Bear has a Harley-Davidson key that is reportedly one of only three that exist at this time. Willie G. has one and Buzz Walneck has one. One of the better items in the museum that Bear pointed out to us was a 1918 Harley-Davidson horizontally opposed-cylinder air compressor. Another one of the real gems in Bear’s museum is a 1942 HarleyDavidson UL74 that was the last civilian model that was made by Harley-Davidson before they shifted production entirely to military models. The specific image is borrowed from Wheel of Time, which is one of my favorite reads, and the serpent is because I have kept reptiles for the majority of my life. It celebrates a decision to reinvent myself and move forward with life, plus my connection to reptiles, and my love of reading.

Vadori Designs a new look at bike building Years ago I was doing a lot of shooting for Rod Action magazine located in California. They were always wanting to feature many of the cars that were being built in the Western Pennsylvania area and with my continuous curiosity (not that I minded because they were paying some of the bills ) I ask why they were so interested in the cars built in this area. To my surprise they told me that the knowledge and work of the steel workers from this area were far superior to anywhere else in the world. That along with many of the steelworkers had built up a little extra money to play with and the family life of this area created a situation where many of the children were getting educations but were still learning to work with their hands along side with their dads. I was at the Quaker Steak and Lube on a bike night in Cranberry and I met up with Joe Salvadori from Vadori Designs which is a newly formed motorcycle restoration company specializing in “Retramods” and is located out of Beaver County. Joe is from Western Pa and has had a passion for wrenching on anything with an internal combustion engine since adolescence. Over the last two decades Joe has turned towards motorcycles but his background is a little different then most of the other small shops. Joe is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pa and Ohio getting his civil/structural engineering degree from Geneva Collage in Beaver Falls, Pa. On top of that he has had vocational training in machining and welding along with several years of experience in manufactur-
ing and management. The first thing that I noticed when I walked into his shop was that he ran a spotless almost hospital-clean premises. I have been in many of the local machine shops and I have never seen anything like this. His lathes and drills etc. didn't have a single chip laying around. I have never seen anyone run a place this clean. Now at the Lube he was set up with a really unique blue bike that turns out to be a 1977 FLH that he had picked up out of a garage fire. Now I did a little talking to him about this bike and he told me that what he does is called Restamods. Now I do follow Jay Leno’s garage a little and some of them out there but I have never heard of this term before. The definition of a Restamod by Joe is a vehicle that has undergone a matching numbers frame and engine restoration, but has had its stance, attitude, style and performance modified from factory. Restoration modifications is what Joe specializes in. You say the word and they will transform your wreck or recent barn/garage find into a work of art. By being a restoration adapting of the original motorcycle there is no problem with the titling and insurance on that motorcycle. This 1977FLH was stripped down to the frame, lowered the seat and moved it back, installed a 93” S&S stroker kit with state-of-the-art electronic ignition, split rocker covers with left hand side oiling, early model round swing arm, rear struts that look like shocks – it is a rigid. Then to top that off he had the paint done by Nub of Nub Graphics out of Walden New York.
Split rocker covers are nothing new but oiling those rocker shafts from the left and splitting the cover is something that he said he has never seen before. He does offer complete kits that include new, after market rocker covers split and plugged by them and finished to your taste, left drilled rocker shafts, left brass acorn nuts, Viton O-rings and NPT brass fittings. When I stopped in Joe was working on a Triumph that he is redoing for Kevin who is also his tattoo artist down at Flesh Mechanics Tattoo in Monaca. As you can see by the picture on the opposite page he has a good start but a long ways to go. I was informed that this bike will be ready for the riding season. Keep your eyes here because this will make a great feature to have a Restamod Triumph and a girl that frequents the Flesh Mechanics Tattoo shop. I think I can see some pin-up work coming out of this one. If you want to see some of Joe's work stop by the Quaker Steak and Lube in Cranberry Twp. as he frequents their bike nights and watch for him at other events in the upcoming season. With his unique prospective on his way of working on bikes I think we will see his work around for a long time. Three Rivers Harley-Davidson Chili Cook Off

I had the pleasure to stop in at Three Rivers Harley-Davidson on February 23. 2013 for their Chili Cook Off. When I pulled up there there wasn’t a parking place to be found. Great job guys on a fun day. They had The Lava Game for the days entertainment, a great selection of chili to taste and a great staff there to help you with anything that you needed. Jim Miller took 1st place, Jim Morton who got 2nd place, and Melisa Kaiser took 3rd. I think the real winners were the people that got to enjoy the great food. We had several people send in e-mails nominating Lori from the Rock Ann Haven to be our bartender of the month. Their reasoning was that she always has a smile on her face and is a friend to all. She always remembers what you drink and usually has it ready before you sit down. Lori always makes your day brighter ! When I stopped in she was having fun with the customers while keeping the full bar served. I had the pleasure of seeing Mike and AJ keeping the crowd interested at Hot Metal HarleyDavidson during their performance seminar. They spoke to a standing room only crowd and there wasn't even very much standing room left. In the seminar they covered LED lighting, air ride, motor work, exhaust, and got into performance, covering the different stage kits. They also covered a lot on audio, covering everything from speakers, speaker placement, and amplifiers, covering everything from individual parts, up to complete Harley-Davidson systems. They did get the crowds attention when they were discussed the performance of the different pipes and perked a few of us up when they were talking about being able to get the most performance from two into one pipes. And we cant forget the one thing that every Harley-Davidson owner is after, that distinctive sound that no other company can produce.

Eagerly, the guy wearing the shiny new leather fashions reaches over and slides the bowl into his place and starts spooning it in with delight. He gets nearly down to the bottom of the bowl and notices a dead mouse in the chilli. The sight was very shocking and he immediately barfed up the chili back into the bowl. The old biker quietly says, 'Yep, that's as far as I got, too.'

Adriane’s Run
Adriane’s Run Even though registration didn’t start until 12 pm, by 11:15 we already had bikes in the parking lot. Gary Kline and his wife, of the Legend Riders of Butler County, were the first bikes to arrive, and they immediately threw in, assisting with setting up. Gary came over to the registration table and began prepping the 50/50 tickets, helping to tear them off in premeasured strips, to keep things moving smoothly when other people arrived. We had several members of the community in early, ready to throw their hands in wherever possible; employees of local businesses, members of various clubs, as well as Adriane’s family members assisted with setting things up, brewing coffee, and making sure everything would run smoothly for the day. Adriane herself spent the morning out mingling with riders, talking and laughing with the men and women who came out to support her, despite the surgical mask covering her face. Several of the folk around said that it seemed to do her well to see how many people came out in support, to see how many people in the community cared. All are hopeful for her, and were happy to lend whatever support they can.
The riders started rolling in steadily around noon, and most quickly moved inside Six Packs to warm up with coffee and donuts. All were bundled heavily, with multiple layers all around. The crowd was full of stocking caps, leather chaps, jackets over sweatshirts, and more than one neck gaiter was present. Most people present said that this was the first run of the year that they’d been out for; several even said that they hadn’t even started their bikes until that morning, and that a night dropping to the low 30s was discouraging, but not enough to stop them from coming out. One man commented on it after the run, telling me they’d come from more than an hour away, despite the cold. He told me about having part of his jaw and tongue removed due to cancer himself, and said that he and his friends do anything they can to support the cause. We had more than 100 people register for the run, though several were passengers, and we even had people come out in four wheeled vehicles, register, and follow along with the run, unable to ride a bike but still excited to support Adriane. Over 70 bikes came out and made the run, with most saying that it was a pleasant ride. More than one bike arrived and
registered late, donating generously, despite missing the opportunity to participate. Several joined up along the ride, registering upon their return to Six Packs. They left Six Packs promptly at 1:15, after a brief prayer by Reverend Wimer of the God Chasers Motorcycle Club. Gary and other Legend Riders headed the pack leading the way to New Castle Harley-Davidson, then proceeding to the Rock Ann Haven in Butler. The Rock House was added as a third stop when we found that the weather would be as warm as it was, to extend the ride for the participants. After the Rock House, the riders returned to Six Packs, where they were greeted with free food and a DJ. The general consensus of the day was that it was a good run; the participants were happy with the length, and most said that it was just warm enough to get out for a first run of the season. We at the Bikers Trading Post are absolutely thrilled with the presence and support that our community has showed a family in need.

Walking proudly, he sauntered into the kitchen and said to his wife, "Notice anything different about me?” Maria looked him over, "Nope." Frustrated, Brian stormed off into the bathroom, undressed and walked back into the kitchen completely naked except for the boots. Again he asked Maria, a little louder this time, "Notice anything different NOW?" Maria looked up and exclaimed, "Brian, what's different? It's hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, it'll behanging down again tomorrow!" Furious, Brian yelled, "AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT'S HANGING DOWN, MARIA?" "Nope" she replied. "IT'S HANGING DOWN, BECAUSE IT'S LOOKING AT MY NEW BOOTS!!!" Without changing her expression, Maria replied, "Shoulda bought a new helmet, Brian!" Happily Married. Badass Biker Bob wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins and a glass of water on the side table. He sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. Bob looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotless, clean. So is the rest of the house. As soon as I get up in the morning, I think about women; when I shower, watch TV, eat, whatever, everything seems to make me think of women." Then she got up and left. "Just a few minutes ago” Wearing your jacket backwards! Two guys were roaring down the road on a motorcycle when the driver slowed up and pulled over. His leather jacket had a broken zipper, and he told his friend, "I can't drive anymore with the air hitting me in the chest like that." "Just put the jacket on backwards." His friend advised. They continued down the road but around the next bend, they lost control and wiped out. A nearby farmer came upon the accident and ran to call the police. They asked him, "Are they showing any signs of life?" "Well," the farmer explained, "the driver was until I turned his head around the right
Mens Night Out Thunder Harley-Davidson in Sharon. Sharon has always been known for a place where youcan have a great time. I did a lot of the promotional photography for the original Quaker Steak and Lube back a few years ago when they had the bike nights where they were counting almost 5000 motorcycles on special nights. Well, Thunder Harley keeps up the Sharon tradition of knowing how to have a good time. On March 16th they had Men's Night Out and it was posted no women allowed. I think that was not a true statement, because they had two extremely lovely ladies serving the beer, and you can’t top the girls that work there, and then the Miller Girls, but female customers were not admitted. They had everything that the average guy would like. First the big boys’ toy the Harley-Davidson and all of the accessories, then beer and food, supplied by The Quaker Steak and Lube and La Isla Mexican Grille, Elite Firearms brought a few of their toys, along with one of the local cigar dealers and an archery shop. Topping off the night was live music and great people.
I made it down to McMahon’s St. Paddy’s Day Party in Beaver Falls on the 16th. Brian told me ahead of time that “We are Irish and we go all out,” and he wasn't kidding. They had the normal green beer but, they had enough corned beef and cabbage that I thought they could feed an army. When I turned around it was gone. They had a full house and an excellent bagpiper that even kept the kids entertained.
Harley-Davidson of Erie Easter Egg I had the pleasure to join Harley-Davidson of Erie for their 6th Annual Easter Egg Hunt. On March 30. It was a blast to see all of the kids having a good time. I think I am a sucker for any group that caters to the kids. I was running a little late getting there and when I showed up about fifteen minutes before the activities started, I had to take up the last visible car parking spot in the parking lot. There were kids everywhere and one of them even rode their bike and parked in the bikes only parking lot. When the egg hunt started the kids went wild, but I really wonder who was having the most fun. This brings back memories of when my son was young, when we would have to sit down and try to figure which one of us was the responsible adult in our relationship. There were many other large Easter egg hunts in that area on that day so you have to give Kelly and Susan along with their staff credit for putting on such a great event to fill the place. After words they had a full house inside with people planning and dreaming as they checked out all of the toys.

Legend Riders of Beaver County The Legend Riders is an organization that rides for charity. They are not a club nor claim to be a club. They ride for the cause because others can’t. They stand so others don’t stand alone. They ride strong to be an example for other motorcycle riders. All proceeds they raise for charity will go directly to that charity, NO money will return to the Legend Riders. They set themselves apart from other organizations because we will lend a hand in our community when and where help is needed, a charity organization that likes to work with people in need. The Legend Riders of Beaver County had a benefit at Little Traverse Inn Bar And Grill on February 23, 2013 for little John Schutte, a 10 year old boy that was battling Cancer. They really did a good job with great food, and a lot of good, caring people. Their member D.J. Todd Haywood entertained with with music and karaoke,and the Chopper Chicks were also on hand to help with the benefit. It is always nice to see the biker community put on such a strong support of the people of our community. John L. Schutte, III, 10, passed away peacefully February 27, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side. He had many loved ones from the Legend Riders by his side also. The funds raised from this event paid the funeral bill.

“The Most Important Motorcycle Purchase Ever: Your Insurance” If you own a motorcycle choose your insurance wisely. Many people think of motorcycle insurance as just another bill. Moreover, many motorcycle owners believe they only need insurance to fix the chrome on the bike should an accident occur. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of minor motorcycle accidents. If you or a family member are seriously injured or killed in a motorcycle accident, insurance choices that you made prior to the accident will absolutely dictate, and all too often limit your right to recover money damages. The most important insurance for safeguarding you and your family involves the underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. Always purchase this coverage. If you are injured or killed in a crash and the atfault driver is inadequately insured, you or your estate can make a claim against your underinsured motorist coverage. Keep in mind that the minimum liability coverage in Pennsylvania is a measly $15,000.00. If your injury claim is worth $100,000.00 and you failed to purchase underinsured motorist coverage, you are stuck with only the $15,000.00 offered by the at-fault driver’s insurance. If you are seriously injured and cannot work for a period of time, you can see the importance of this coverage. Uninsured motorist coverage allows you to make a claim against your own insurance coverage if you are injured by an uninsured driver. You would be surprised at the number of irresponsible uninsured drivers on our roads. In sum, underinsured and uninsured coverage allow you to insure yourself and your family against inadequately insured and uninsured drivers on our roads. I recommend you purchase at a bare minimum no less than $100,000.00 in underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage, and I recommend even higher limits if you can afford it. What if your injuries took away your ability to work for the rest of your life? If you can afford it, purchase $250,000, $500,000 or $1,000,000 in underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. Finally, if you insure more than one motorcycle be sure to tell your agent that you wish to “stack” the underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. This allows you to effectively increase your coverage by a multiple equal to the number of motorcycles insured on your policy. You should also be sure to purchase stacking on your automobile policy. If done properly you may be able to recover additional underinsured or uninsured coverage from your motor vehicle policy as well. Purchasing motorcycle insurance is critically important to safeguarding you and your family. As you choose your motorcycle insurance remember that what matters the most is insuring yourself in case of a cracked head, rather than just a cracked taillight. -Attorney Grant C. Although the following isn’t what I had in mind when I set out to write the first of hopefully many installments of my little corner in the Trading Post, I decided to devote this rant about the below subject in lieu of my initial intentions. The first “motorcycles” were powered by steam. The first gasoline internal combustion two wheeled motorcycle – the Daimler Reitwagon – is credited to Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Daimler was an engineer, industrial designer and industrialist born in what is now known as Germany on March 17, 1834. Daimler is probably best known for his pioneering efforts of the internalcombustion engine and automobile development. Maybach, also born in Germany and on February 9, 1846, was an engine designer and industrialist. The duo set out to create a small, high speed engine suitable for land, water and air and became lifelong business partners. In late 1885 they succeeded with their first internal combustion gasoline engine… an air cooled, single horizontal cylinder with revolutionary hot tube ignition (aka a sparkplug) capable of 600 rpm (at the time most engines could only achieve up to about 180 rpm). Later that same year they created the first carburetor which mixed evaporated gasoline and air for an “efficient” fuel. After developing the carburetor, the engine grew slightly to 100cc. The configuration was changed to a single vertical cylinder and produced 1HP @ 600 rpm. They assembled a smaller version of the vertical cylinder engine and mounted it in a two wheeled wooden frame with outriggers, albeit training wheels, named the Reitwagen. The two wheeled motorcycle powered by an internal combustion engine was born and although credited with it, this creation was not their end game! They decided to use the smaller two wheeled cycle for engine R&D since, at the time, the engine wasn’t powerful enough to propel a 4-wheeled buggy. Daimler and Maybach went on to co-find Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG) (German for Daimler Motors Corporation) in 1890 and sold their first automobile in 1892. Daimler died in 1900, while Maybach continued their efforts and designed a new, faster, more powerful car called the Mercedes 35hp (unheard of for the time of 1902). This vehicle was designed and built to the specifications of Austrian racer Emil Jellinek. The engine was named DaimlerMercedes after Mercedes Jellinek, Emil’s 10-yr old daughter. DMG registered the Mercedes trademark in 1902.

Thunder in the Cascades Turns 18 It seems like yesterday when the gates of Cascade Park in New Castle opened and bikers started flooding in for a weekend of non-stop over the top fun. Eighteen years later Thunder in the Cascades is still true to its roots as an ‘old school’ rally for bikers. This year the event is June 27-30th at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds in New Castle. Thunder has been at various venues over the 18 years. Our welcome at any one spot usually lasts about 5 years. Thunder riders are just having way too much fun! One constant however has been Thunder’s association with non- profit groups. For the past 18 years Lawrence County ABATE and the Christian Motorcyclists’ Association have used Thunder as an opportunity to raise funds and/or create awareness. That tradition will continue this year. Thunder in the Cascades 2013 will include a number of new events, rides, bands and attractions like a flame eating biker from Texas. Business is Business... A boy and his date were parked on a back road some distance from town, doing what boys and girls do on back roads some distance from town. Things were getting hot and heavy when the girl stopped the boy. “I really should have mentioned this earlier, but I’m actually a hooker, and I charge $20 for sex,” she said. The boy just looked at her for a couple of seconds, but then reluctantly paid her, and they did their thing. As I sped up to pull into it, I looked up to the heavens again, smiling that I would just make my appointment, and I said, “Dear God, never mind, I just found one!” Bring Me A Beer
The Slacker Harley-Davidson, feeling it was time for a shake-up, hired a new CEO The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning on a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He walked up to the guy leaning against the wall and asked, “How much money do you make a wee?” A little surprised, the young man looked at him and replied, “I make $400 a week. Why?” The CEO then hands the guy $1,600 cash and screams, “Here’s four weeks’ pay, now GET OUT and don’t come back!” Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, “Does anyone want to tell me what that ******g slacker did here?” from across the room came a voice: “Pizza delivery guy from Domino’s.” Parking Space So I’m riding in the city the other day, late for a very important appointment, and I can’t find a parking space
A biker came home from the road, sat down in his favorite chair, turned on the TV, and said to his wife, “Quick, bring me a beer before it starts.” She looked a little confused, but brought him a beer. When he finished it, he said, “Quick, bring me another beer. It’s gonna start.” This time she looked a little pissed, but brought him a beer. When it was gone, he said, “Quick! Another beer, it’s gonna start any second.” “That’s it!” she blows her top, “Are you crazy! You waltz in here, flop your fat butt down, don’t even say hello to me, and then expect me to run around like your slave. Don’t you realize that I cook and clean and wash and iron all day long?” The biker sighed. “Oh, Hell, it’s started.” The Ex Wife Tim decided to tie the knot with his long-time girlfriend. One evening after the honeymoon he was assembling some gear for a hunting trip. His wife was watching him. She finally speaks. “Honey, I’ve been thinking, now that we are married, I think it’s time you quit hunting, shooting, and fishing. Maybe you should sell
your guns, your boat, and the motorcycle.” Tim gets a horrified look on his face, and she says, “Darling, what’s wrong?” “For a minute there, you were sounding like my ex-wife.” “Ex-wife? I didn’t know you were married before!” “I wasn’t.” Painful But Understandable Story Told by a Loving Wife The pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. Suzie Smith stood and walked to the podium. She said, “I have a praise. Two months ago, my husband Bob had a terrible motorcycle accident and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn’t know if they could help him.” You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation as they imagined the pain that poor Bob must have experienced. “Bob was unable to hold me or the children,” she went on, “and every move caused him terrible pain. We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and it turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remains of Bob’s scrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it in place.” Again, the men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Bob. “Now,” she announced in a quivering voice, “Thank the Lord, Bob is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely.” All the men sighed with unified relief. The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say. A man stood up and slowly walked up to the podium. He said, “I’m Bob Smith.” The entire congregation held its breath. “I just want to tell my wife... the word is... Sternum.” Ammo’s Getting Scarce! Saturday morning I lucked out and was able to buy several cases of ammo. On the way home, I stopped at the gas station where a drop-dead gorgeous blonde was filling up her car at the next pump. She looked at the ammo in the back of my Chevy and said in a very sexy voice, “I’m a big believer in barter, big boy. Would you be interested in trading sex for ammo?” I thought for a few seconds and asked, “What kinda ammo ya got?”
Blessing on the Diamond
Sunday, April 28th was the first annual Blessing of the Bikes on the Diamond in downtown New Castle, Pa. What started out in the mind of Rich Shira with dinners in the basement of the Family Worship Center turned into a public event with more than 50 bikes attending, despite inclement weather. Bikers flocked to the event to seek a blessing performed by Reverend Kris Kauffman, asking God to look out for them while they ride. The event included a blessing for all who attended, as well as food and music by the bluegrass gospel band Lifegate, from Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Butler, Pa. They alsoin performed blessing for Lawrence County police store. officers,Installation firefighters, and veterans. Bring this adafor an extra 5% off at either not included.
With a trip to Johnstown for their annual Thunder in the Valley I discovered a Rally that is as good as any in the area. Johnstown is layed out to where it can really accommodate a lot of mtorcycles and the crowd that follows. Parking is not a problem if you are in a car or on a motorcycle. There is a veriety of good vendors and lots of entertainment. Thunder in the Cascades 2013 This year tattoos were a hot topic at Thunder in the Cascades. The Bikers Trading Post was set up directly across Liane at Impressions of Expressions, and body art was one of the main topics of discussion through the weekend. Tattoos are a big part of biker culture, and over the weekend, it seemed like everyone present had at least one. I talked with dozens of people over the weekend about their art, and nearly everyone could give me a name and location of their artist, along with stories that went along with them. Friday afternoon brought us a contest to find the best tattoos at the rally. There were more than 20 people who signed up, anxious to show off their art. If they had
waited until Saturday they would have had twice as many entrants, due to the weather delaying the large turnout we saw later in the weekend. The art showed a wide variety; the most unique piece at the contest was Doug Altman's scorpion done on his back. This was the single largest tattoo present, and showed an amazing amount of detail. The scorpion was done by Chris Blinston, of Coral Springs, Florida. One of the highlights for me was seeing Maria, and her husband Randy, who both entered. They were quick to share that their ink was done by the same artist at Ink Assassins. While their pieces don't exactly match in theme, they look great next to each other, and seeing so much ink from the same artist was a treat.
Another treat was seeing Tim, sporting his many portrait tattoos all over his body, and both of his motorcycles on his forearms. He explained to me that each one had an outline traced, but that the details of each face were done entirely freehand. The portraits are a surprising quality. While we were talking, his son stood next to him, and showed us an identical portrait, also done freehand by the same artist. The contest may not have had many participants compared to the masses of people at the rally, but the art was truly top notch. Audience participation narrowed it down to the single best woman's tattoos, but it was impossible to pick between three men, and the three finalists each walked away with a prize.
ia and Our cover model Mar her husband Randy I have been going to the Thunder in the Cascades for 19 years now and enjoyed this year, hanging with the same people that I did in 1994, my son Ronnie and the ever so lovely Barbie, who is now owner of Mirth Promotions, the company that supplies the Coors Light girls. This year's Thunder had Joe Smith joining the management team after working at the registration for the past 12 years. The weather was very uncooperative this year, but in between rain storms the near capacity crowd was out and about having a good time with their family, friends and many new acquaintances. I met a lot of new people that I hope to have as friends for many years to come. Year 19 moved back to the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, giving a lot more flat space and many buildings to hide from the storms and extreme sun. This year had all of the pleasures that we like at Thunder, like the Wet T-Shirt Contest, Bike Games, The Bull, a Stripper Pole and the best bands that they have had for years that packed the dance floor every night. I am now looking for the 20th anniversary on June 26th through the 29th of 2014, where I know they will put on a real blow-out show.

July model of the month. I had the pleasure of meeting our model of the month, Maria and her husband, Randy, at the tattoo contest in Thunder in the Cascades. As we were talking they asked how we found our models, and as I explained there is no one source, she expressed interest. I told her I was waiting for the bike show to find a bike she told me that she had a Big Dog Chopper. Now that turned my head real fast. I have never photographed a model with her own bike, let alone a bike of this caliber. In learning a little about her she was in a Columbus, Ohio bike shop and saw this bike. She fell in love with it, and three weeks later went back and bought it. She had never ridden a bike before, so she trailered it home and learned how to ride on this bike. Not only is she an extremely lovely lady but she also has a Bachelors Degree in nursing and works in management at a hospital. Maria has competed in bodybuilding and physique classes since 2001 earning her pro card this year. She plans to compete in pro shows next year. Her hope is to become a model/spokeswoman for some type of supplement/fitness magazine and for bike magazines.

Roar on the Shore Week in Erie Pa. Last year I was looking for some solid information on Roar on the Shore and came across a website that rated it as one of the top ten bike events in the United States. July has become a bikers paradise in Erie Pa. Roar on the Shore was July 18 - 20, of 2013 with one report claiming to have 100,000 bikes on Friday night. I have no idea how you would ever count the bikes because not only did they fill the downtown are but they were filling every hotel and motel along with all of the side streets and empty parking lots in the Erie area. They kept a never ending stream coming and going from morning till night. Bikefest at Harley-Davidson of Erie ran July 13-21, and was nonstop entertainment. This year Joe from Dream Air Campground opened up his place for some unique entertainment of a type that I have never seen before. I foresee this week of activities to do nothing but get bigger and bigger. I attended all three of the events and it was great because you could ride back and forth between them and make a great day out of the events that were happening. Hopefully next year I will be able to list all of the happenings and times of all three events so you will have a time frame where you can bounce back and forth to be able to cover the type of events that appeal to you. Like in the other bike rallies, the more that is happening in the area the better it is for all of them. I will start with Roar on the Shore. Erie is the perfect place for an event like this. First it is a very easy town to get around, and in my opinion, is the most beautiful place in the whole United States. The streets are wide enough for all of the activities and they are able to park four rows of bikes on the street with ample room to still gave driving lanes to get around. This is the only event that I have ever been to where the riders make the most of the parking on their own. I didn't see one gridlock all weekend, and that made it enjoyable to ride around all weekend coming and going as you please. As with every year Roar on the Shore brought in some great entertainment for the people
attending their event. They always bring in some national talent to perform and like always it was superb. They had Saturday headliner Queensryche as a main attraction and had nationally renowned No Limit Team stunt drivers Jason Britton and Eric Hoenshell Stunt riders. They put on a show that was unbelievable. There were vendors with everything you would need in the bike world to accessorize your bike along with accessorizing yourself. Yamaha and Victory were both offering free demo rides along with many other bikes there. The businesses in the area are used to the tourist trade so they are very cordial to all of the bikers. It is nice to see an event where you can bring your family and safely walk the streets, find reasonably priced food and drinks and have people waiting on them with a good friendly attitude. Erie has always been a great host to all of the events that happen in that city. The only down side and this is something that happens at all big events and that is there are never enough hotel rooms. If you plan on going and staying downtown you need the book a long time ahead. Harley-Davidson of Erie put together 9 days of fun and entertainment. They had Bands, Bike Runs, Games, Bikini Bike Wash (mom I didn't look), Vendors and Demo Rides along with a very friendly staff to wait on customers and keep the event running smoothly. Both times that I stopped in they had wall to wall bikes filling the bike only parking lot. The had arranged some of the neighboring properties for parking of cars and trucks. The vendors were top notch but catered a little more towards the Harley market (go figure). Leading many of the rides was Paul Yaffe. This is also an event that I see doing nothing but getting bigger every year. Being out of the downtown area there is a little more in the line of motel rooms due to Presque Isle being one of the most popular federal parks in the United States. Both of these events are very close to Presque Isle with its great sights, wildlife and beaches. Presque Isle is rated as being one of the top places in the
world for sunsets. The road around Presque Isle is aproxamently 13 miles of a very smooth flat scenic ride. The other location that had activities was the Dream Air Campground. This is a 50 acre location with a large pond that was open to catch and release fishing. I really foresee this place to grow over time along with the others. First it is adult only and BYOB. It is an affordable location to camp out at and run to the other events and there were also activities there to entertain. On the campgrounds there is a paved airplane runway that is 300 feet over a quarter of a mile long. This was opened up for whatever people wanted to do as long as they had proper gear and proof on insurance. Joe was a little late this year in starting to plan and promote for this event but things did turn out well with at one point about 100 bikes. Some of the fun was drag racing of all types including a run of a corvette against a golf cart with an Artic Cat motor in it. The golf cart, actually beat the Corvette on the takeoff and that he did. When he started off he pulled the front end up so high that the back bumper dragged on the pavement.

It’s July. Time for picnics, fireworks, warm weather, and long rides. Unfortunately, it is also that time of year that we see an increase in careless drivers running into motorcycles. In last month’s column I wrote about the importance of purchasing adequate underinsured and uninsured motorist insurance. This month I am providing you with information on what you need to do if you, a loved one, or a friend are in an accident. If you are seriously injured some of the steps below will obviously need to be handled by fellow bikers or others at the accident scene. After an Accident: 1. Stay Calm. Keeping a cool head will help get you through this stressful ordeal. 2. Get Medical Attention. Above all, your well-being is the most important thing. Insist an ambulance is called immediately. Don’t try to be a hero by rejecting medical treatment. 3. Exchange Information. If you are physically able, be sure to get the other driver’s name, phone number, license number, license plate, and insurance information. 4. Gather the Facts. Write down the date, time, location and situation surrounding the collision. Take photos of: -the bike and other vehicle -the other driver’s license plate -scene of the wreck (including any posted speed limit signs, tire marks, debris in the roadway, and anything else that may be relevant). 5. Gather Witnesses. Get names, addresses, and telephone numbers. Witnesses greatly improve your chances of proving your case. 6. File a Police Report. If it is a bad wreck the police will be there. Insist that they file a report. 7. Notify Your Insurance Company. Get a claim number. DO NOT sign anything for any insurance company! You have a duty to cooperate with your insurance company. About our model of the month and the motorcycle Our model this month is the lovely Brandi. Not only is she a lovely young lady but she is also a strong caring soul. Her moms best friend had cancer and passed away a week before Breast Cancer Awareness Month so Brandi and her friend decided to shave their heads as a symbol for breast cancer. She spends a lot of her time working and is a student at Kent State University for Communication Studies. Lloyd Kildoo bought this all original Harley-Davidson FLH in 1975 with 50 miles on it and he started the Syria Motor Corps for the Mid Atlantic Shrine Association which has now expanded nation wide. Lloyd and Jack Weaver started with a poster child every year to support disabled children. The Syria Motor Corps members ride so burned and Disabled children, along with their families do not have to worry about the child's finances. Lloyd Kildoo passed away in June of 2010 and left his son James L. Kildoo with the memories of riding with his dad to help the children. James L. Babe of the Month Each month we will feature a biker babe on the cover of The Bikers Trading Post, as well as a centerfold posed with a motorcycle. Both the cover and the centerfold will be conservative enough to display in any retail setting. The ladies will be wearing bikinis or similar outfits that show skin, but do not display full nudity. These Babes will also appear occasionally in promotions for the magazine or for our vendors. Readers can submit a photo of a Babe of the Month candidate by sending 1-4

Meadville Pa. Thunder in the City Weekend. July and August are the months that we wait all year for. Last month we went to press the weekend of Thunder in the Cascades. Even with the rain it was one of the best times we have had at an event. Non-stop entertainment, along with all of the bike games tattoo contest and who can forget the wet T-shirt contest. I have followed Torch since then and he is keeping a crazy schedule hitting all of the major biker events in the country. There are many good events still coming up but is is so sad to think of summer being almost over. Hopefully the weather will be with us for the rest of the riding season and we will be able to get out a lot more. Make sure you get out and enjoy whether it is one of the many up coming events or just a nice weekend ride. We still have the Steel Horse Stampede Weekend Biker Bash, Rumble on the River, Celebration of the Fallen, Western Pa. End of Summer Motorcycle Bash, along with many runs and charity events coming up. Watch our event pages for many of the local events that are happening in western Pa. But remember that many dates and times change so be sure to check ahead of time. I see on facebook many times they will post changes but if you are not in that loop you will not know. This month in addition to the Roar on the Shore weekend there was Thunder in the City
in Meadville. This is a growing event and I was really impressed with their bike parade on Saturday morning. The line of bikes seemed to be never ending and then was followed up by the Corvette club. This is a little different event than a lot of the other bike events in it is held downtown and a lot of the merchants get involved. It is very family friendly along with having all of the bands and the runs they have vendors and a kids zone. Street Track’n Trail had a very impressive selection of machines down there and seemed to be the main sponsor in the bike section.
the local charities. They had all of the standard bike happenings there from bands, bike runs, vendors and bike games. They also had the BBQ trailer going with the best chicken and ribs you ever ate.
This is a nice mellow event with some of the nicest people in the bike scene. I was suprised how many people that I saw there that I had met in Erie, the Beaver Valley and other places. We were there signing people up for the Fun Run and we had more people sign up there than at any other event. Street Track’n Trail was also set up here with a nice selection This event is run with the classic car show and of clothing and some of their collection of with the two of them they fill the whole Harley-Davidsons. On Saturday there was a downtown area. There was every thing there guy that I really don't know what to call him so from art to the standard event t-shirts and a ton we will go with a shirt cutting artist. He would of food. I like all kinds of the biker events but cut designs in the shirts that people bought at it is great to see some of them this family Street Track’n Trail. After hanging out in the City I went up to JD’s Tap House for their event, called Bikes, Babes I don't know where they find their staff but and Brews. once again the people working at JD’s were really on top of things. I was amazed at how long the very cold water. Dan and Michelle really put crowd stayed. They had a large presence of the on a great event and I really want to give Keystone Riders and my highlight of the day Michelle credit for being the first person to get was getting to see the lovely Tammy. Thank in the dunking tank to raise money for one of you Dan and Michelle for such a great event.
Show us your Tattoo. This month I met a young lady Brittiany, that was home on leave from the Army. I was admiring her tattoo’s so we did the whole page on her. Enclosed is also a pphoto of her with her husband Jim.
The purple flower on my chest represents beauty. It starts out as an ugly seed and turns into a big, beautiful flower.
I’m 21 and I’ve been in the military for almost four years. I started out as a mechanic, and two years ago I switched and now I work in the morgue. I love my job, and I’m currently stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia. The snake on my thigh is very powerful to me because it’s a sign of strength and power. I decided to get it because I was going through a very hard time.
My left arm says, “for God so loved the world.” This has a lot of meaning to me because I’ve lost eight of my very close fellow soldiers in the span of 11 months.

MCO discovered a local child with down syndrome that the insurance co. would not cover her special needs glasses. Support.. other groups such as Eagles Riders/American Legion Riders and A.B.A.T.E. of different towns from Uniontown to Hookstown PA in events for children and assist any way we could. RESULT Gain Respect and support of other like minded organizations while helping the children. October 4,2014..Rainbow Dreams..this is a learning center located in Unointown PA who was in need of school supplies. RESULT They compiled a wish list and we filled the list and delivered to the children October 12,2013..LIFE FOR NOAH..held motorcycle run for a child with stage 3 kidney disease from Burgettstown PA to assist him and his family with medical expenses on the long road ahead of them. RESULT raised $2,875.00 to deposit in NOAH'S account October12,2013..Russell..a child in need of some guidance and assistance. We met with him at our event and discussed things such as Chivalry,Code,Morals and Respect. RESULT we presented him with a plaque of Knighthood and explained there are 2 paths before him he must decide the path he is to take, the correct path will lead to MCO attending his birthday party on March 20 2014.
GLAD TO SAY RUSSELL IS DOING GREAT AND HAS CHANGED HIS WAY TO DATE November16,2013 Today MCO PA went to visit a little girl from Washington pa. she has seizures and a hard time getting around. it has been some time since she was able to get upstairs to her bed room. Result while we visited we made the proper adaptations with her parents guidance to make it possible for her to have the ability to sleep in her room tonight when we left. We also donated a wheel chair to them to assist her and mom to have the ability to go to the store ,she gets tired quick and this made mom unable to take her out. Now they can share some time out side as well as her having her own room back. THIS HAS ALL BEEN POSSIBLE DUE TO EVERY MEMBER IN OUR ORGANIZATION TOGETHER WE SHARE THE IDEA FOR HELPING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN OUR LOCAL AREA. EACH FUNDRAISER WAS A TEAM EFFORT, EACH EVENT WAS A TEAM EFFORT AND MUCH FAMILY SUPPORT FOR WHAT WE DO AS OUR MOTTO IS..‌ TOGETHER WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE In addition we have conducted monthly picnics together with family and children. Held monthly meetings to discuss our task and future organization duties. Carried out fundraisers to assist the efforts of helping children of PA. Established with Secretary of State of PA as REGISTERED as non-profit organization. Met new people and explained to other enthusiast of the USA how we plan to help the community as a Motorcycle Charity Organization for the local area. “Garet‛s Dance to Knock Out SBS” March 15th, 2014 at the Slovan VFW Garet was born in Nov. 2012 with Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS), causing him to lose 2/3rds of his small intestine. Garet spent 10 months with a central feed line and colostomy bag. Today, Garet is doing well; however, some of his friends who suffer from SBS are not as fortunate and they could really use some help. ALL PROCEEDS from this event will be donated on
behalf of Garet to Children‛s Hospital of Pittsburgh SBS Research to help Garet‛s friends in their battle against SBS.

Annie B Run KNIGHT'S CREED MCO June 22,2013..Annie B run...MCO holds first annual bike run to raise funds to promote child safety in the Bridgeville community in the name of a local girl that passed in motorcycle accident RESULT raise $2,320.00 and assisted in collecting donations from local business owners to be used for child safety plan of security cameras in local school and raised awareness of the Annie b fund to the community. Annie’s goal was to become a child social worker, her dream was to keep all children safe. Tragically she never got to finish college, while on an internship Annie was taken from us in a motorcycle accident. Her family created the fund in her name to continue her dream of keeping children safe. The funds are used by the local police dept. to take different precautions to protect the children of Annie's hometown. The first project was camera's at the local school with a monitor at police dispatch center to always have an eye on the children. The next steps are to move into the parks. Knights Creed holds an annual event in Annie's memory and all proceeds go to the Annie B. fund at the local Northwest savings bank in Bridgeville PA. This years event is being planned for June 28, 2014 check out Knights Creed MCO on face book or on the web at www.knightscreedmco.org for more details and other ways they help children.
