Welcome from the Duke of Roxburghe It is amazing to think that this is the 25th year of the Horse Trials at Floors and the event continues to grow in stature and reputation, as the changes to both Ian Stark’s and Angus Smales’ cross country courses continue to bed in and mature. We hope that the top riders will descend on the Scottish Borders to compete in the top classes where the total cash prize pot is an astounding £7,500!! The winner of the CIC** will take home a cheque for £1,750 while the winner of the CIC* will earn £750. Over the weekend more than 500 horses will complete in the various BE Classes, as well as the additional classes such as the Burghley Young Event Horse Classes, Retraining of Racehorses, Pony Club Games and Arena Event, etc. Floors Castle International Horse Trials is a non-profit making organisation so none of this would possible without the fantastic support of our sponsors and the terrific work carried out by a multitude of volunteers including the valiant committee. Best wishes for a very successful event to all participants.
Floors Castle, the largest inhabited house in Scotland, is one of the leading visitor attractions in the Scottish Borders and home to the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe. Built by leading architect William Adam in 1721 for the 1st Duke of Roxburghe, it has undergone periodic changes to create the dramatic building you see today. Displaying an outstanding collection of 17th century French furniture, magnificent works of art and beautiful, newly restored tapestries – Floors Castle is a must see attraction. Next to the Castle, and just a short walk from the Horse Trials, we have our wonderful Courtyard Café which offers delicious light lunches and tasty snacks all prepared in the Castle Kitchens. The Castle Gift Shop is the place to stop to purchase a memento of your visit as well as locally sourced gifts. Whilst the Horse Trials are run in the parkland, Floors Castle also has some more refined gardens including the Star Plantation, a woodland garden, and the Millennium Parterre, a French style garden with trained fruit trees and manicured lawns. In 2016 there was a major redevelopment in the Walled Garden with the creation of a new Perennial Garden and fruit cage, with the glasshouses opened up to the public for the first time. The Terrace Café is the place to stop for a delicious café latte and homemade scone or something more substantial like our famous fishcakes or kedgeree. The Terrace Café offers a fresh garden café atmosphere with our trademark spotty tea pots to alfresco dining in the gardens. 1

TIM FINCH
( 1935 – 1917 )
Sadly Tim died in February, and with it we lost a great friend and wonderful Commentator. Tim came north with his Family from Exmoor, having been born in Norfolk. He bought Ruecastle Farm, Jedburgh. He started commentating at Floors in the early days of Team Chasing, then Floors Castle Horse Trials started and he was our main commentator over the last 25 years. He also commentated all over Scotland and The North of England, at Shows and Point to Points. His voice was known as “The voice of Scotland “ minus the accent. He will be sadly missed on the Scottish circuit.

SCALING NEW HEIGHTS The Scottish Borders are proud to be home to Floors International Horse Trials. And as a near neighbour, Kyowa Kirin International is also proud to be able to call the Borders its home. Like many of the beautiful horses you see here today, we’re stretching ourselves to excel at what we do. In our case, that’s working with clinicians across the globe to develop new medicines aimed at improving the lives of patients – and creating high quality jobs in the process, right here in the Borders. So much so, that we’re currently expanding our presence in Galashiels to match our growth. Like the competitors we see here today – we’re scaling new heights too. www.kyowa-kirin.com

Thank You
from the Organising Committee of Floors Castle International Horse Trials.
We are hugely indebted to all our volunteer helpers, who give generously of their time before, during and after the event. We greatly appreciate all our starters, controllers, scorers and score collectors, jump judges, stewards, writers, timers, caterers and roles too many to list, without your support we simply could not run this event. 143
