Eleven Division CPLC to award first scholarship
®
creativity rocks
Students recognized for academic achievement, community support LISA RAINFORD lrainford@insidetoronto.com The 11 Division Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) will award its first-ever Community Safety Scholarship in recognition of high school students’ efforts to make their neighbourhood a safe place to live. The scholarship is unique for its recognition of community and civic engagement and pro-
motion of safer communities. Currently, the CPLC is looking for donors to help fund the scholarship. While it is the first for 11 Division, scholarships have been presented across several Toronto Police Services divisions for years, said local CPLC co-chair Linda Martin. Those who are eligible are students who are working hard to give back to their community, Martin said. >>>BREAKFAST, page 17
Reflexology footpath plans unveiled in honour of cyclist LISA RAINFORD lrainford@insidetoronto.com Jennifer Morrison’s family and friends are still reeling from her sudden and untimely death last November. The 38-year-old expectant mother was riding her bike on her way to pick up her fiveyear-old son from school when she was struck and killed by a
truck. Those who knew the woman, who lived in the Dundas Street West and Sorauren Avenue area, are taking solace in a project they are launching in the yoga instructor and health practitioner’s memory: Canada’s first-ever reflexology footpath to be constructed in Dufferin Grove Park. >>>COUNCILLOR, page 6

Residents wants to make electrification ‘the’ next provincial election issue ERIN HATFIELD ehatfield@insidetoronto.com Residents in Roncesvalles Village are drawing a line in the sand and vowing to make electric trains the hot button issue during the next provincial election.
At a recent meeting of the Roncesvalles-Macdonell Residents’ Association (RMRA), Doug Bennet, the director of the Clean Train Coalition and the Chair of the Wabash Building Society, gave the nearly 50 residents in attendance an update on the issue.
The Union Pearson Express will operate on a 25-kilometre rail route, the bulk of which will share Metrolinx’s upgraded Kitchener GO rail corridor (formerly the Georgetown corridor). Trains will depart Union Station and Toronto Pearson >>>NOISE, page 16
