Matthew Luckiesh a physicist and Director of General Electric's Lighting Research Laboratory at i Nela Park pursued research on light and vision, he was known as the "Father of the Science of Seeing" and authored a variety of books and articles on light vision and colours and their phychological and physiological effects on Humans. A true pioneer in his field remains rather unknown today but his writtings stand out in the limited bibliography of the lighting expert.In his book ''Artificial Light and its influence upon Civilization" Luckiesh examens the history of artificial light in paralel with the evolution of mankind in an 'original' reading regarding lighting as early as 1920.
