In recent years, research psychology has revealed the three places in American society where people are most likely to pose or pretend to be something they’re not: hotel lobbies, car dealerships, and church buildings. The reasons may differ from venue to venue.

I believe that fear is often at the root of why we’re inclined to “pose” or “pretend” in places of worship. Some may fear not being accepted, others may fear “not knowing enough” as it pertains to matters of Scripture or faith, etc....

We hope that you find The Branch to be a community of faith where those kinds of fears die quickly in the midst of grace and love. We’re seeking to be a church that helps people to become, grow, and live as disciples of Jesus. He came “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). In His steps, we’re growing in our understanding of what it means to love God with our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40). We’d love to have you on the journey with us! So take a moment and enjoy this latest Branch Out, maybe even download our app, and get to know a little bit about us! We’d love the opportunity to get to know you!

Grace and Peace,

THE BRANCH CHURCH

BRANCH ORIENTATION

You were designed to be a part of a church family. That’s exactly what The Branch Church is intended to be — your family. A healthy family has common beliefs, purposes, and commitments. That’s why we want to share what we believe and where we’re going.

What is your next step at The Branch?

If you haven’t been to Branch Orientation, it’s officially your NEXT step in your journey with us. Whether you’re new or you’ve been here for years, we want everyone to attend this important class. Come to ask questions and hear the philosophy behind why we do what we do. This class will help you to become more involved at The Branch, and will introduce you to others who are also looking to get more involved.

What to Expect

Branch Orientation is our basic introduction to our church family, and is designed to clearly explain who and what our church is. It also provides the next steps for getting more involved and active in The Branch family. At the end of the Orientation, you will have an opportunity to decide whether to complete the process by filling in your information on the Membership Application, or to wait and decide at another time. No pressure whatsoever. We want you to be comfortable with whichever you choose.

Lee Scott Seniors Minister
Branch

Meet Jason Duke

What an incredible start to a new season of ministry this has been. I was both humbled and thrilled to be given the opportunity to become the Campus Pastor of the Vista Ridge Campus. Michelle and I couldn’t be more excited. WE’RE BACK HOME!

In 2001, while attending Dallas Christian College (DCC), I was trying to catch the attention of this beautiful young lady who would later become my wife. She, too, attended DCC and was madly in love with Jesus. In order to spend more time with Michelle, I began attending The Branch alongside her. We spent the next 5 years of our relationship, and then, marriage, growing closer to God and being challenged in what it meant to follow Him. It was during that time God planted a seed in my heart and mind to step into ministry. All these years later, having been involved in church planting and other multisite churches, God has granted us the opportunity to come back home. It truly is surreal.

In the last 20-plus years, we have seen God move in so many ways in our family’s life and in the lives of others. We’ve been given four beautiful kids: Caden (15), Tucker (13), Grayson (11), and our special gift through foster/adoption, our daughter Blessing (9).

They are all very active playing soccer, hanging out with friends, playing Xbox, and just driving us crazy at times, but we wouldn’t want it any other way. As a family, we enjoy camping, hunting, riding dirt bikes, and just being outdoors. Michelle serves at Poteet High School in the Mesquite ISD as a mental health counselor working with students to help them find peace and direction in the midst of difficult circumstances.

As I think about this new season, I can’t help but sense what the Holy Spirit has already been doing at The Branch. Like so many have already mentioned, there is great anticipation of what God is about to reveal and do. We know He loves His children deeply and desires for ALL to experience the kind of life He has planned for them. I’m excited for the simple fact that the pump is primed, and we’re about to witness all the ways He is going to reveal Himself through the efforts He has called us to. As a church body, together, we’re going to see God do miracles of salvation, healing, and restoration in people’s lives. It’s going to be amazing, and I’m thankful I get to do this with you. Let’s go!

THE BRANCH CHURCH
12

Hey Branch family, thank you so much for your kindness and prayer as Anna and I have been in transition over the past six months.

Before God called us to The Branch, I was a pastor at Covenant Fellowship Baptist in Stuart, FL. But in 2020, God used Anna’s family and schooling to call us to Dallas and The Branch Church. The hospitality of The Branch has been the greatest blessing to us, and will be key for us as God continues to build His Kingdom in North Dallas.

If you’ve been around me much, you’ve heard me suggest that we are in a great spot to be one of the most welcoming and connected churches in the Metroplex.

God has blessed the ministry of Anna and me for the past 10 years, not because we are the best communicators or throw the best parties, but because we want to lead people to make strangers their neighbors and their neighbors their families.

We believe this is the way of Jesus, and the way of Jesus is the way we want to go.

Thank you for being so kind. There is no better time than right now to hop on board.

Meet Bailey Burrus FARMERS BRANCH CONNECTIONS MINISTER

Hello! If I have not met you yet, my name is Bailey Burrus, and I am delighted to serve as the Farmers Branch Connections Pastor here at The Branch. If I have already met you, know that you have been part of extending a warm feeling reminiscent of a “welcome home” to my family and I already.

My wife Abigail and I have been married for five years, and thank God for our two daughters, Eliza and baby Joan. Abigail is from the Dallas area originally, and I am from Austin. We met while at Seminary and decided to take things glacially slow… just kidding. We got married in a matter of months and uprooted our lives to pastor a church in Massachusetts. Besides learning what a furnace was, the Lord taught us what obedience through faith looked like; we painfully were called to that church to close it down. We then transitioned into government for a while before being called back into vocational ministry.

Our hope for The Branch Church is to believe expectantly that God will give all of us a passion for engagement and discipleship. We know that the Lord is not a God of halfmeasures, but one who asks for a decisive response to costly grace. We pray this for our church and are thrilled to grow alongside all of you.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:1-2)

BRANCH KIDS REDEEM DAY

MAY 28 • FARMERS BRANCH • 4:30 - 6:30 PM

Kids in Kinder - 5th grade earn points each Sunday for memorizing our memory verses, bringing their Bibles, and attending Branch Kids. Kids get to cash in these points for cool prizes and celebrate their hard work at Branch Kids Redeem Day! There will be food, a bounce house, prize tables, and more!

What are Branch Kids Points?

In Branch Kids, your child will be given points that can be redeemed at the end of each school year for prizes. Branch Kids Points are a way we encourage and reinforce the importance of the following practices:

Fellowship

We encourage attendance in Branch Kids. God’s word tells us not to forsake meeting together (Hebrews 10:25). We want to instill the importance of Christian community to each of our kids.

Reading the Bible

We encourage your kids to bring their Bibles each week to Branch Kids (even prereaders). The Bible is God’s word, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).

Memorizing Scripture

We encourage your kids to memorize scripture. We teach kids to hide His words in their hearts (Psalm 119:11).

Journaling and Prayer

We encourage your kids to practice journaling and prayer as part of their daily lives. We model this in Branch Kids by giving time for each child to pray, write, or draw a response to the lesson of the day.

BRANCH YOUTH

Branch Youth (6th - 12th grade) is guiding middle school and high school students to follow the practices and person of Jesus Christ.

We want Branch Youth to be a place where students feel seen, known and loved by our adult volunteers, but most importantly by Jesus! Most of us remember what it was like in middle school and high school. It’s a trying time of change where our identities begin to form and our beliefs are put to the test. In many ways, it’s the most critical time in a person’s development. It’s often also looked upon as the time we had the most fun.

Branch Youth meets on Wednesdays for games, worship, teaching, and small group time. We want Branch Youth to be a place where students want to be, where they feel like they belong, and where they learn about Jesus and how much He loves them. Throughout the year, we focus on how to practically follow Jesus in our everyday lives. We also do events throughout the year, such as Branch Camp, hang-outs, and retreats for students to have fun while growing closer to each other and to God.

BRANCH KIDS

In Branch Kids, we want kids to know, see, feel, and follow Jesus! Here are some of the ways we do that!

We’re shepherding kids from birth through 5th grade toward Jesus. We want kids to know the one true God, His word, and the gospel. We want kids to see people living Christ-centered lives full of love, worship, and service. We want kids to feel the peace and presence of the Holy Spirit in our church. And we want kids to know they can be a part of it all – serving, leading, worshipping, and loving others for Christ.

We pray that kids draw close to the Lord during their time in Branch Kids, and build a personal relationship with Jesus. We want kids to know that they have access to the same Holy Spirit as adults, and that the Spirit fills them with power, love, and a sound mind. Our amazing volunteer teachers demonstrate Christ’s love and what following Jesus looks like each and every week. They meet kids where they are – loving them deeply and consistently, while pointing them to the Lord. We believe every kid that comes to

Branch Kids is a child of God: seen, known, and loved by their Heavenly Father. Our volunteers are an extension of that love.

In Branch Kids, we partner the truth of Scripture with age-appropriate activities that reinforce what we’re reading in the Bible. We incorporate activities that emphasize movement and creativity, because we know kids can connect to God in many ways. We’re connecting the dots that point to Jesus throughout the Old and New Testaments, because we know that the Bible is one BIG story where everything points to Jesus. It is a great privilege for us to share Jesus with kids on Sunday mornings.

We’re seeking to partner and communicate with parents because we know that together, we can speak Jesus over our kids’ lives.

If you’re a parent or caregiver, please sign up for Branch Kids texts by texting “ kids” to (972) 440-2460. We’d also love for you to follow Branch Kids on Instagram to see what our kids are up to!

THE WELL

The Well exists for young adults to gather in the name of Jesus to encounter His love, follow Him wholeheartedly, and witness to others about His goodness and faithfulness. We do this through worship, teaching, table discussions, and fellowship.

The Well got its name from John 4, which tells the story of the woman at the well. A Samaritan woman came for a drink of water and instead encountered the One with living water. Her life was transformed, and through her testimony, the lives of many in her city were transformed as well. We believe this is what the Lord is doing on Monday nights, and we hope you’ll join us!

If you are in your 20s and 30s, come hang out with us! We meet every Monday Night at 7:00 at the Vista Ridge Campus!

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program that meets EVERY week — rain or shine! We all have hurts, habits, and hang-ups, and CR is a program designed to help you find freedom. Come hear testimonies, find encouragement, and step forward in faith THIS WEEK!

“As I look back to the person I was three years ago before CR, I don’t recognize her. She was afraid of everything and trusted no one. God has graced me with people who have shown unconditional love and acceptance through CR. I can look people in the eyes, trust in a way I couldn’t before, and love as God loves me. CR has taught me to trust God to make all things right!”

CR addresses all types of habits, hurts, and hang-ups. Some recovery programs deal only with alcohol or drugs or another single-issue. But Celebrate Recovery is a “large umbrella” program under which a limitless number of issues can be dealt with.

We are seeing hopeless marriages restored and people set free from all kinds of sinful habits, hangups, and hurts as they allow Jesus to be Lord in every area of their lives. To God be the glory! We’ll be praying for you.
