Dear distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to welcome you to the Annual ANPA Southern California Chapter end of the year Gala. You are all in for a treat tonight. The Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) was founded in Los Angeles in 1995. The Association has since grown in numbers and deeds. It was founded to provide a platform for Nigerian healthcare professionals practicing in the Americas to interact and share scientific ideas that will benefit our communities here and in Nigeria. ANPA has since been formed engaged in scientific presentations yearly in its national conventions. These presentations have focused on the medical conditions that affect our communities both here and in Nigeria. The 20th annual convention will take place in 2014 here in Disney Land. You will all be invited to our 20th year anniversary celebration.

In 2008 the association took its convention to Nigeria for the first time. This enabled ANPA to foster a symbiotic relationship with similar organizations in Nigeria and the UK, the Nigerian medical association (NMA) and the medical associations of Nigerians across Great Britain (MANSAG). ANPA has continued to work with these organizations to foster a healthier Nigeria in a healthier world. These efforts have of course met some challenges.

ANPA initiated medical missions to Nigeria shortly after it was founded. Many Nigerian

Community organizations have since engaged in medical missions to Nigeria. In 2011/2012, ANPA under the sponsorship of USAID ANPA spearheaded the review of medical college curriculum in Nigerian medical schools. We will tonight roll out our newest program, medical and Allied health mentorship program. We certainly want to encourage our kids to take up careers in Medicine and Allied health. This will certainly reduce the shortage of these disciplines in our community and beyond. We promise you all a fun time tonight. There will be lots of entertainment. You will laugh until you cannot anymore. You will dance until your dancing shoes fall off or your heels start hurting. So please sit back, relax, put on your dancing shoes and have the time of your life. Julius Kpaduwa, MD (For the Steering Committee)

• Our Vision is "A Healthier Nigeria in a Healthier World." • Our Mission: • To foster personal and professional growth of its members through camaraderie and unselfish exchange of ideas. • To promote altruism, professionalism and scholarship among its members • To identify and stimulate interest in all matters affecting the health of Nigerians and provide the forum for debating evolving health issues • To encourage the development of practical solutions to Nigerian health care problems through strategic initiative and field activities inside Nigeria • To seek collaborative research opportunities in the international medical community and contribute to improved health care in the Americas and worldwide Our Vision and Mission is achieved through the following activities:

• The Annual ANPA Conventions - We address current issues of healthcare in Africa, such as HIV, women’s health, child health, environmental health, health care financing in Africa, mental health, capacity building, education and training of physicians and other health workers. • Our Medical Missions offer us the opportunity to provide free healthcare to the medically indigent, in rural parts of Nigeria, Africa, the Caribbean, and other needy regions of the world. We get firsthand experience of the issues and the nature of health problems of the local communities. It enables us to exchange views, share experience and participate in collaborative care with our local counterparts. We are able to educate local health institutions, governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other stakeholders on the best practices for improving the health of individuals and populations. • Capacity building – Through our training initiatives, advisory roles, and active en-

gagement with health workers and institutions, we help to develop critical skills and infrastructure needed to run an effective health service in Nigeria and other countries in Africa and the Caribbean. • Internet Communication - ANPA was the first organization to provide internet connection to a number of major Nigerian Universities. We have also webcast our conventions and hope to facilitate internet links between African institutions and their U.S. counterparts. • Through this web site and our other online resources, such as the e-group, message forum, and blog, we engage in lively on-going discussions on current healthcare issues that are of interest to our community. • Directory - We publish a directory and maintain a database of Nigerian physicians in the US, Canada and the Caribbean with the specialty and location of their practices. Thus we are able to reach Nigerian physicians in general and when necessary, can call on the appropriate expertise of our members. • Networking - With over 4,000 Nigerian born or trained physicians in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean, ANPA's Annual Conventions and local chapter activities provide forums to share our experiences and pool our expertise for a healthier Nigeria in a healthier world. • Policy Advocacy - We meet with African

This gifted young talent with the winning smile, dimpled cheeks, and impeccable comedic timing, is groomed to make Variety Magazine's 2011 list of "Best Comedians Under the Age of 30". Highly respected Nigerian Comedian, Wamilele, has been making Africa laugh for the past decade. Whether hosting widely publicized government and state events, performing at some of the most prestigious church functions in Nigeria, acting as the official M.C. for all Chevron/Shell Oil events, or doing stand-up alongside Kings of Comedy Ali Baba, Basket Mouth and Basorge, Wamilele's versatile style of comedy has made him one of the most sought after comedians in West Africa. "Wamilele has defiinitely become one of the Big Boys in our industry", Ali Baba said. "He's the type of guy that will quickly become an international sensation. He even makes me laugh!" Although a funny man by nature, Wamilele does not joke when it comes to his relationship with God. He is also a motivational speaker who uses his platform as a comedian to encourage others. "From a young age, I always knew that putting God first would help to make my dreams become reality. When people ask how did a young boy from Warri reach the status of becoming a successful comedian, I let them know that my faith in God has gotten me to this point, and will continue to take me to greater heights. Eyes have not seen nor ears have heard the plans God has for all of us". Blessed by Bishop Mike Okonkwo of TREM Lagos, one of the largest churches in Africa and North America, Wamilele has always stood firm in his committment to providing quality entertainment within the church. "Wamilele is well embraced

and respected in our community", Bishop Okonkwo states. "His comedy is clean, uplifting, and has a positive message. Wamilele is one of the few comedians I've met who can sing, dance, and make people laugh all at the same time!" Wamilele's touring schedule for 2011 is already filling up fast. For those who have not yet heard of this young comedian, sit back, relax, and watch as Wamilele "The Comedian" takes the comedy world to a whole 'notha level. www.wamilele.com
