A MESSAGE FROM THE WSA PRESIDENT Greetings! It is a great time to be involved in the Shorthorn breed! This continues to be an exciting time to raise Shorthorn and ShorthornPlus cattle. As you flip through these pages, you will find Shorthorn breeders who are ready, willing, and able to meet your cattle needs with some of the best genetics the Shorthorn breed has to offer. Please use the commercial advertisers as a resource, as they too would like to partner with you in your cattle ventures. The Wisconsin Shorthorn Association and Wisconsin Junior Shorthorn Association continue to build momentum. This is demonstrated by WSA and WJSA members’ participation in and presence at activities and events such as: the WSA annual meeting, the Bull and Female of the Year Awards, the annual WSA State Shorthorn Show, Farm Technology Days, WSA Pasture Walk, the representation of several Wisconsin Shorthorn Lassies, and the spectacular Shorthorn exhibitor attendance at state and national shows.

The Wisconsin Shorthorn Association held its annual State Show in June. It was a very successful show, with 55 head in the Junior Show and 49 head in the Open Show. The show is gaining numbers every year and drawing exhibitors from several states. Thank you to all who helped plan, work, and sponsor the show! Next year’s show will be held June 13 and 14 in Lodi, Wisconsin. Please plan to attend! Go to WisconsinShorthorns.com for up-todate information and details. I also invite you to like the WSA/WJSA Facebook page and to become a member of WSA. If at any time you have questions about our great association, do not hesitate to give myself or any of the board members a call. We would love to answer your questions or just talk cattle with you! Wishing you all the best, Dennis Schlimgen 2019 WSA President

FRIEND OF THE WJSA Each year, the Wisconsin Junior Shorthorn Association recognizes a supporter of the organization and its members. For her unwavering support of youth in the Shorthorn industry and her belief in the WJSA, we are proud to announce this year’s Friend of the WJSA.

Connie Lehman

Lehman Cattle Company Cazenovia, Wisconsin

WJSA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Fellow Shorthorn Enthusiasts, Hello! My name is Courtney Stelzer, and I am currently serving as the Wisconsin Junior Shorthorn Association President. I have been blessed with the opportunity to be an active WJSA member for the past four years. I have also served as the WJSA Secretary for two years and a Wisconsin Shorthorn Lassie Princess for two years. I got started in the Shorthorn breed when I purchased my first Shorthorn steer, Prince. I had been showing cattle a few years prior to Prince but fell in love with him for his docile temperament and roan color. He also won Grand Champion Ultrasound and Live Market Steer at my county fair. After a fun and successful year with him, I knew this was a breed I wanted to be involved in. My sister and I now have our own small herd of Shorthorn cattle, consisting of twelve cows. Currently, I am a junior at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, where I am majoring 22 > Wisconsin Shorthorn Association

in Animal Science with an emphasis in Meat Animal and a minor in Agricultural Business. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I plan to further my education by earning a master’s degree in livestock nutrition. WJSA members recently completed the National Junior Shorthorn Show in Lebanon, Tennessee. It was a great week competing in contests and representing the Wisconsin Shorthorn Association! The WJSA Board will be hosting a meeting and pizza party at the Wisconsin State Fair. I encourage junior members and Shorthorn enthusiasts that would like to become involved in the WJSA to attend! I am excited and look forward to serving as the Wisconsin Junior Shorthorn Association President! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. The WJSA Board is here to serve you! Best Wishes, Courtney Stelzer, WJSA President

We recognize a Friend of the WJSA and award that individual with a personalized gift.

The annual WSA State Show offers junior exhibitors a chance to show twice in one weekend.

We put together a Wisconsin-themed basket each year to help fund the National Show.

We also participate in educational and photography contests, recreational activities, and more.

An annual t-shirt sale helps us raise funds for our association while promoting our great breed. Membership Directory > 23
