INDIA Take a minute to look at the people around you as they carry on with their everyday lives. You will find them stressing about meeting deadlines at work or rushing to be on time to college or flipping through different Television channels or even confused between choosing which restaurant to order from! Now, pause for a moment. Can you take in the fact that 9 out of ten children in India stand no chance in getting through to college? This statistic implies that 90 percent of India’s youth don’t get to lead your lifestyle. They don’t get to worry about which movie to go watch or which book to read before going to bed. Instead, they are forced to spend their lives trying to meet their basic needs- food, shelter and safety. All this simply because they were born into different families with different backgrounds, call it bad luck if you may. ‘Teach for India’ is a not for profit organisation that wants to eliminate the role that luck plays in a child’s education. It’s a task, yes, but they are well on their way to achieving that vision. THE FELLOWSHIP Teach for India works on a fellowship model. They take on college graduates, train and hone their skills. Once the fellow completes the two-year responsibility, he/she enters the proud alumni of TFI. THE ULTIMATUM For TFI, it is not only about academic grounding but also about the values and mind-sets of the children. FUNNY - LEARNING TO WRITE COMEDY FROM THE WORKS OF AMERICAN SCREENWRITER ELAINE MAY
Incongruity is the main reason we laugh. When logic and familiarity are replaced by things that don’t normally go together, humour stems naturally as our minds recognize that things are out of place and try to find a way to make them connect. But incongruity is effective in other ways, too. Even if your goal isn’t laughter but simply to keep your viewers engaged, you can use incongruity to keep things fresh by finding ways to combine unexpected elements. Unlike many, American screenwriter Elaine May had an ingrained funny bone. Her lengthy sketch comedy collaboration with director Mike Nichols influenced her style. She had a loopy sense of humour, and he was a walkingtalking study in timing and deadpan delivery. By Nikhil Krishnan

here are few things that are as inherently full of adventure as the open road. It has inspired countless people, books and songs so much so that a road trip is on anyone’s bucket list. Nishigandha is someone who’s lived these road trips.
ROAD NOT TAKEN A Kanyakumari to Ladakh trip is on the wish list of many a biker. Nishigandha has been to >ĂĚĂŬŚ ĂŶĚ ŚŽůĚƐ Ă ŶĂƟŽŶĂů ƌĞĐŽƌĚ͘ ŝĚĞĚ ďLJ dŽƉ 'ĞĂƌ /ŶĚŝĂ ĂŶĚ ^ƵnjƵŬŝ DŽƚŽƌĐLJĐůĞƐ͕ she was the youngest female biker to reach the Marsimek La Pass. It’s no wonder that the roads and highways around the Himalayas ĂƌĞ ŚĞƌ ĨĂǀŽƵƌŝƚĞƐ ƚŽ ĚƌŝǀĞ ŽŶ͘ ͞dŚĞ ƌŽĂĚƐ aren’t great, and driving is much harder. But that’s part of the challenge. The view and ďĞĂƵƚLJ ŵĂŬĞ ƵƉ ĨŽƌ ŝƚ͘͟ ,Ğƌ ŵŽƐƚ ĐŚĞƌŝƐŚĞĚ biking moment was also a part of this trip. ͞>ĂƐƚ LJĞĂƌ͕ ǁŚĞŶ / ĮƌƐƚ ǁĞŶƚ ƚŽ >ĂĚĂŬŚ͕ ŝƚ ũƵƐƚ so happened that I made it to Khardung La Pass on my birthday.
