ROOTED CONFERENCE Saturday, August 13th was an exciting day for our church as we hosted our very first Rooted Conference! Financially supporting our missionaries is a crucial way to assist them in taking the message of Christ ‘to the ends of the earth.’ However, supporting missions doesn’t just stop with writing a check. Here are 5 other ways that you can support missionaries throughout the world.
3. GO HEAR MISSIONARIES SPEAK, ASK QUESTIONS AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE MEETING A missionary will come into town and the church may have a special meeting or dinner for them. Go and hear stories about how God is moving around the world. Shake their hand and sincerely thank them for the work they are doing. You may not be able to support them right now, but you might in the future. Invite a friend and maybe they will feel called to support them. If they speak on Sunday morning, then go shake their hand after the service. Join their mailing list.
4. GIVE YOUR TIME TO YOUR CHURCH’S SHORT TERM TEAM If the church is sending out a short term mission’s team, then pray about signing up to go with them! If you can’t go, then you can give your time and help one of their fundraisers. You may not be able to buy the meat for the brisket fundraiser, but you can pass out plates and help clean up. You can help work the bake sale or rummage sale. You could even help advertise the trip on Sunday mornings and recruit the team. You could help train the short term team. Be involved in the church’s missions projects.
5. COORDINATE CARE PACKAGES 1. PRAY FOR MISSIONARIES
You could ask a Bible Study Group to collect items and money
Commit a certain day of the week that you pray for
for a care package to mail a missionary. Perhaps your small
missionaries that you know. Pray for a specific country and
group class could do this?! Most people are willing help and
their missionaries for a month. You may already know people
give, but most don’t want to step up and lead the project. You
who are serving Jesus as missionaries, but you can also find
could spend your time and little administration time and mail
out who your church supports financially. Then you can get
a care package.
to know them yourself. You can also ask friends who they support or look for missionaries through larger organizations
Serving in missions isn’t always traveling or giving money.
such as agwm.com
You give your time and talents and God will honor that. Missionaries will be encouraged and you get to participate in
2. WRITE ENCOURAGING EMAILS AND LETTERS
exciting events in the Kingdom of God.
If the missionary you support writes a blog, then comment on their post. If they send an email, then send a quick reply. Get on a missionary’s newsletter list. Recently a missionary from Rwanda sent out an email indicating that in the next two weeks of her ministry were going to be intense for her team and she requested prayer. I sent a quick two lined email. Letting her know that I read her email and that I was praying. I knew she was busy, so I kept it to the point. What if she had sent out that email to 100 people and heard back from 85 of them? Don’t you think that she would be encouraged that so many people were praying for her? THEBRIDGEAG.ORG / 9
