Our lectures: Hidden Histories of African American Texans and Histories of Tejanos, as well as our partnership with the Art of Equality Contest during Juneteenth in Galveston provided a context and new perspective on history that stimulated insightful conversations amongst all backgrounds. The official establishment of our Education Department in 2021, allowed us to focus on the most important aspect of our mission, the next generation We welcomed back school tours and introduced our first traveling educational exhibit and literacy curriculum into the Houston area The artwork depicting the story of Charles Goodnight was displayed in Northwest Houston at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts for over 6,000 field trip students to experience Partnerships with other museums, school districts, and nonprofits, like The Heritage Society in Houston, have become key to our educational programming and outreach. After the launch of our partnership with iWRITE, we announced that we would be providing students with the opportunity to break a Guinness World Record for the largest published book in the world One thousand students were given the chance to make history and get published in a book called, I Am Texas We immediately saw our school participation rates quadruple Encouraging children to learn more about their shared history and empowering them with freedom of expression that is validated in a VERY LARGE book gives a confidence boost that is life changing Ultimately, the preservation of our Texas history will be in their hands. It is our duty as an organization to find meaningful ways to connect with the next generation. We invite you to learn more about The Bryan Museum’s mission and programs as the organization takes active steps to bring history to life to preserve it for future generations By transforming historical education through compelling stories and a world class collection, we advocate for the importance of our shared history as a source of wisdom and guidance for our institutions, our communities, and ourselves We hope you find pride and fulfillment in giving your support and being a part of The Bryan Museum

Dear Friends and Supporters, Determination and hard work brought The Bryan Museum through the uncertain times of the last two years with flying colors! We are proud to share this report with you It highlights how your investment has been used to achieve our educational goals and preserve our shared history through the museum ’ s collection and programs. Your contribution of time, financial support, and advocacy impact everyone who participates in the one of a kind history experience found at The Bryan Museum In 2020, our response to health and safety protocols was a launch of our first virtual programming This effort increased our online viewership by thousands of people nationwide. Open once again to the public, we prepared for program expansion from Galveston all the way to Northwest Houston. In 2021, our visitors came back in full force with visitation reaching pre pandemic levels Two of our highest attended community days to date were Trunk or Treat and Holiday Delights Our weekends were filled with weddings and receptions for brides and grooms who have always dreamed of getting married at a historic venue.

Education is at the heart of what we do With programs that inspire a sense of discovery and reflection, we challenge individuals to see themselves as part of the drama of history. The Museum is significantly enhancing student tours to make them more impactful by creating new field trip and workshop opportunities to support all K 12 students and teachers at all grade levels. In 2020, The Bryan Museum was one of the very few organizations in Galveston to offer a safe, in person summer camp for area youth The one week program was expanded to two weeks in the summer of 2021 In 2021, the education department created curriculum for a special traveling exhibit that was viewed by over 6,000 Houston area schoolchildren and will continue on tour next year The written curriculum and video introduction are available online for any teacher who wants to use them In addition, the education department has revamped in person school tours to make them more learner focused and hands on The Museum also expanded its offerings for adults and under served audiences through grant supported free field trips for Title One schools and a wide range of demonstrations, films, lectures, and hands on activities

SUMMER CAMP KID’S PAINTING WORKSHOP

Led by teaching artist Becca Hovey, participants sketched out a design and carved their image into rubber to create a one of a kind print.

Students explored different themes each day through art. They completed one painting a day with careful instruction from teaching artist Hahn Tran. The students toured the museum grounds and galleries for inspiration, before creating their painting. At the end of the week, they had a small art show and reception for their loved ones. In both 2020 and 2021, campers from Galveston, Houston and beyond enjoyed learning about Texas history through gallery tours, art projects, hands on activities, writing, and acting Guest speakers included historical reenactors, Texas judges, and real life cowboys. Each week of camp was capped off with dramatic storytelling written by the campers. Hidden History is an online series with the purpose of recognizing the historical contributions, and undeniable influences, of non Anglo cultures in the history of Texas Each lecture is given by academics, historians, and authors. All of whom are the expert authority on their given topic. Season 1 premiered in September of 2020 and the 7 episodes have collectively been viewed over 65,000 times. Our first installments spotlighted African American figures and events in Texas. Season 2 is slated to be released from April through September in 2022 and will focus on the little known history of Tejanos and their impact on the history of our great state. The Bryan Museum is already laying the groundwork for a third season that will highlight the history of indigenous nations of Texas HISTORY SERIES 65,000 VIEWS

On April 16, 1947, three ships the Grandcamp, the High Flyer, and the Wilson B Keene, were docked in Texas City port. They were loaded with cargo, including ammonium nitrate fertilizer, bound for Europe to assist in the post war recovery effort At 8:33 a.m. the Texas City fire department responded to a call for assistance with a fire on the Grandcamp The Grandcamp exploded at 9:12 am, with a tremendous force that was felt for miles around. More than 550 people, including 27 firemen, were killed; flying pieces of concrete, steel, and glass injured thousands more; resulting fires took days to extinguish. Donated by William C. Holt

Making it our best year to date. We can confidently state that we are the busiest rental venue in the city.
