Dear Members,
Many of you have been witnesses to the remarkable journey of transformation and growth that The Bryan Museum has undergone in recent years. Today, it is with immense pride and gratitude that I share a monumental achievement that reflects the vision, dedication and hard work of our founder, J.P. Bryan, our Board of Directors, our incredible staff and each of you.
With profound appreciation, I am thrilled to announce that The Bryan Educational Institute and its flagship platform for education and programming, The Bryan Museum, have successfully concluded a rigorous five-year journey, attaining permanent Public Charity status. GALVESTON ORPHANS HOME
THE LEGACY PROJECT
Long before housing The Bryan Museum, our historic building at 1315 21st Street in Galveston served as a refuge to children in need. For almost a century, The Galveston Orphans’ Home served our island community and provided care for orphaned children, as well as those whose parents were not able to support them.
In honor of the 6500 young lives who passed through the Home, as well as the people, organizations, and local businesses that helped to keep it operating, The Bryan Museum is proud to announce our current exhibit spotlighting their stories.
Featuring the Museum’s most interactive displays ever curated and video interviews from former orphan residents, this exhibit transcends the cataloged history of the building by sharing personal stories of some of the individuals who experienced it firsthand. Please join us in an immersive retelling of this important part of Galveston’s history
"This collection is my life's work Each artifact, each document, each piece of this world-class collection brings Texas history to life, punctuated by the stories of those who shaped the greatest state in the Union I invite you to join me on this extraordinary journey to find yourself in the captivating pages of Texas history and become part of the Museum's legacy for generations to come "
J P Bryan
In an unprecedented project, The Bryan Museum invites you on an epic historical journey told by the greatest living champion of Texas history today, J.P. Bryan.
Exclusively offered to Old 300 members, you will join a select group of Museum founders in the creation of The Bryan Museum Legacy Project, a professionally produced documentary highlighting the rich history of Texas and the American West. You will see and hear Texas history come to life as we join J.P. for colorful commentary and an insider’s look into each of the Museum’s five world-class galleries

Santa Anna’s Walking Stick
On View October 18
The Library Gallery
Antonio López de SantaAnna lost his left leg below the knee during a battle with the French at Vera Cruz, Mexico in 1838, two years after the Battle of San Jacinto. The Bryan Museum has acquired the walking stick he used during his exile on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas, around 1864. It is German silver, mounted on wood. On the pommel is the figure of Bacchus The Roman god of wine reclines – cup in his right hand and seemingly in a drunken stupor
Hidden under the detachable pommel is a glass vial with a cork stopper Santa Anna kept a couple of shots of rum in the vial to fortify him on his walks. There is a steel blade in the cane ’ s shaft for defense against an attacker
