INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS 2023
If you’ve been searching for the right opportunity to add more style, vigor and comfort to your space, you’ll appreciate this list. We checked in with professional designers and industry players for their take on the top interior design trends for 2023. Some of their picks confirm that certain things like: shades of blue, personality-packed rugs fit for maximalists, statement window treatments and high-style marble slabs in kitchens, stand the test of time. After all, a few of these were also highlighted in our feature on the leading design trends for 2022. But other trend predictions may surprise you: high-gloss wood finishes and full-on craft rooms are just a few examples to note.
“I am a little surprised with how much color that we are going to see,” ... “However, I think people are tired of allwhite everything and are ready for something more exciting.”
All in all, use this list of the biggest design trends for 2023, including trending kitchen ideas, to bring your own space to life in the coming year. And remember that this forecast isn’t a mandate to embark on a gut renovation if that’s not in the cards for you right now. Sometimes the smallest design upgrades — the right color palette, hardware style, piece of furniture or decorative accent — are all it takes to give a room a fresh, picture-perfect look. Get started on your dream kitchen, living room, bedroom retreat or just about any other space that could use a refresh.
1Listening Rooms
Listening rooms, or music rooms, have always been coveted by audiophiles, but they’re gaining popularity with the masses as vinyl record sales continue to climb. Essentially, a listening room is a dedicated space for music, whether it’s creating your own or playing your favorite tunes to unwind and enjoy, solo or with a group of people. Even if you don’t have an entire room to spare, a dedicated corner or nook of any room can be transformed into space to enjoy music.” — Molly Torres Portnof, Founder,
Color will continue to be popular in decor, particularly jewel tones.
2Tactile Textures
Danielle Blundell, the executive home director at Apartment Therapy, told Insider that texture is going to play a big role in home decor for 2023, in everything from pillows and couches to wallpaper and backsplashes.
“It’s one of the easiest ways I think to up the warmth and visual interest in a room,” Blundell said. “For 2023, we’re going to be seeing more dimension on everything from wall treatments and textiles to furniture and decorative accessories. So texture just everywhere.”
Andi Morse, the founder of Morse Design, told Insider that textured fabrics like boucle and leather will also continue to be popular.
“I think texture can give a room a highend look, but you can find textured items at any budget if you’re a smart shopper,” Blundell added. “What’s so great about texture is that you can really lean into layering and that’s what sort of gives a room that finished look and it really works with any color palette.”
Tactile textures will be popular in the coming year.
Statement Rugs
“ There will always be neutral rugs, but I am loving the shift towards rugs being functioning floor art. These statement rugs will become a fixture in the home — a form of artwork that must also be curated to create the perfect space.”
— Alex Alonso— Davina Ogilvie
Unique Window Treatments “
3“ In 2023, I expect to see more embellishments on window treatments, from fringe trim on drapery leading edges to scalloped-edge Roman shades and shaped cornices. These details make window treatments more personalized and add punch to simpler, more streamlined alternatives.”
— Davina Ogilvie
Trends from the last few years will also be refined in 2023.
In recent years, people have been embracing joy and whimsy in their decor, as Blundell told Insider.
“Bright colors, whimsical shapes, fun patterns like checkerboard, all of that stuff,” she gave as examples.
Blundell anticipates these trends will evolve into a more elevated form in 2023.
“All these things are still going to be relevant,” she said. “I just think you’re seeing a little bit more of a refinement now.”
For instance, people started incorporating squiggly shapes into their homes around 2020, and next year, Blundell anticipates that will transition into a more elevated scallop.
“Joy is still at work in our interiors and that can mean something a little bit different to everyone,” she said. “But a lot of these ‘make you smile’ shapes and colors are softening a little bit and getting a little more refined.”
5Desert-Inspired Tones
For people who don’t want to embrace jewel tones but still want something different from an all-white home, Blundell anticipates a surge of desert-inspired hues becoming popular.
“I think anything from pinks and oranges of a sunset to the taupes and beiges of the sand,” she said of the colors that will inspire people. She added that the softer tones pair well with textured fabrics.
“It’s sort of a simple palette to work with, but it’s still cozy and can transport you and bring a little bit of the outdoors inside,” Blundell said. “It’s a little more nuanced, a little bit more artful.”

neighborhood feature NORTH BUCKHEAD /BROOKHAVEN
NORTH BUCKHEAD/BROOKHAVEN REAL ESTATE ESSENTIALS
North Buckhead and Brookhaven are adjacent communities north of Atlanta’s urban core. North Buckhead is a neighborhood within the district of Buckhead. Brookhaven became a city in 2012. Both communities have histories that date back to the pre-Civil War era. Today over 11,000 people live in North Buckhead. Br ookhaven, h owever, has a population of over 54,000, making it the largest city in DeKalb County. North Buckhead and Brookhaven have many similarities: both are affluent communities with bucolic settings and upscale amenities, restaurants, and shopping. One difference is that North Buckhead public schools are part of Atlanta Public Schools, while Brookhaven is served by the DeKalb County School District.
IN A NUTSHELL
Brookhaven, a northeastern suburban neighborhood of Atlanta, was one of the first planned golf course developments in the United States. It is on the list of National Historic Places and is a popular residential area with a mix of housing that includes smallish bungalows as well as larger single family homes, interesting townhomes, condominiums and modern lofts. Peachtree-Dunwoody Road separates Brookhaven from North Buckhead to the east and together they represent some of the most affluent areas of the entire city.
GETTING AROUND
Marta’s red and orange lines serve the neighborhoods, so it is possible to avoid city driving, for the most part. You’ll enjoy these neighborhoods on foot occasionally, but you’ll definitely want to keep your car close for convenience, even if you only use it on weekends or to get to nearby parks and recreational facilities. If you love bicycling, jogging or taking your dog for a run, feel free to do so around the neighborhood.
THE SCENE
Buckhead has a reputation as a ritzy place; North Buckhead and Brookhaven fall in the same class but with a more residential feeling. Brookhaven has five city parks, one with a lake, and at least an equal number of celebrations and festivals. It may not have as many restaurants and clubs as some other neighborhoods, but you won’t lack for activity if you settle here.
THE BACKSTORY
There are so many neighborhoods in Atlanta that it’s hard to keep them separate. Brookhaven, h owever, is now a city. It became DeKalb County’s newest municipality in 2012, but most people still consider it an Atlanta suburb. That’s probably okay.
