20 21 DECOR TRENDS FOR

After the year we’ve all had, it’s no surprise that home design trends for 2021 focus on comfort—whatever that means for you.

Home decor trends for 2021 are all about creating a home that’s comfortable, functional, and most importantly, a reflection of you.

1 | Japandi

A combination of Japanese design and Scandinavian minimalism, Japandi style is all about sleek lines and neutral color palettes.

2 | Neon Lights

Gen Z is bringing neon lighting back with a modern look. Customized neon word art in fun fonts and neon-hued LED lights are trending - even appearing in nursery decor!

3 | Friluftsliv

As the coronavirus pandemic moved gatherings outside, our outdoor spaces took on newfound importance. Instead of embracing hygge and snuggling up indoors, many people have espoused the Danish concept of friluftsliv, or “free air life,” and are bundling up before heading outside.

4 | Dividers

Both Etsy and Pinterest predicted a move away from open floor plans in favor of more divided spaces in 2021 As our homes now serve multiple functions - home office, gym, creative space - the need for privacy and separate zones has increased.

6 | Oversized Tiles

Skip the teeny-tiny penny tiles with the impossible-to-clean grout lines in favor of larger scale tiles in the bathroom. Fewer grout lines means less cleaning and less visual clutter.

7 | Grandmillenial Style Inspired by the comforts of Grandma’s home, millennials are decorating with a nostalgic sense of style.

Expect to see vintage touches and old-school patterns mixed with bold, modern colors.

5 | Earth Tones Earth tones, including beige, brown, burnt umber, and terracotta, will continue their popularity streak in 2021. Basically any earth tone is surging in popularity these days.

junk drawer Clear out that junk drawer or messy space that’s been stressing you out! Empty the space completely. Throw away any trash or donate unused items. Sort like items into their own dividers or bins. Put away things in a way that allows you to clearly see everything you have.

furniture Sometimes you get done cleaning and your space still doesn’t feel as inspiring or fresh as you might like. See if you can rearrange your furniture or home decor to make the space more functional or visually appealing. Consider upcycling old furniture with fresh paint. Pinterest and Youtube have thousands of great ideas and tutorials to help you turn old furniture into beautiful new pieces.

deep clean

Sweep and mop the floors. Clean the inside AND outside of the toilet. Scrub the tub/shower, sink, and counter. Clean and organize the drawers and cabinets. Throw away anything that is expired or unused. If you have towels you want to get rid of, check if your local animal shelter will take them.

Do a

Declutter your

desk or workspace Whether it’s at work or home, clean and organize your work area. This will help you be more productive and feeling happier while working. Throw away dried out pens. Have a designated space for pens, scissors, tape, paper clips, etc. Create an inbox for papers, bills, and other mail that you clear our once a week. Dust and wipe down the area. Get a plant!

Declutter unnecessary

papers

This might be an easy way to get organized for 2021, or really hard for some if you have years worth of papers. Either way you’re going to feel good once you unload this clutter. Throw out or recycle old magazines, ads, technical manuals, receipts, junk mail, etc While you’re at it opt out of paper bills and old subscriptions. If you’re unsure about something you can always take a photo of it.

digital declutter Delete unused apps, photos, files, playlists, and contacts. Uninstall programs on your computer you don’t use. Unfollow social media ‘friends’ or random people you don’t even talk to. Don’t go on sites that stress you out. Unsubscribe to newsletters you never open. Organize your digital calendar. Whether you use it to track birthdays or your daily to-dos, it’s so helpful. Put everything into categories and color coordinate them.
