Tour de France returns to Limoges

The 103rd edition of the Tour de France will once again be visiting the Limousin. After a 7 year absence, Limoges will host both a stage finish and a departure in July next year. The race will also honour the Limousin's most famous ever cyclist, Raymond Poulidor. cycling heritage and it is a pleasure to come back.” The following day will see the riders head east out of Limoges and towards a tricky finish in the Massif central, but not before passing through Masbaraud-Mérignat, just outside Bourganeuf in the Creuse, the hometown of French cycling great Raymond Poulidor. The Tour de France often tips its cap to former greats and the route of the 5th stage is a clear nod to the popular cyclist in the year of his 80th birthday. Nicknamed “Pou-Pou”, Raymond Poulidor was one of cycling's biggest names, although his career coincided with those of Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx - two of the greatest riders to ever take to the roads.

fter much speculation, the route of the 2016 Tour de France has been unveiled and the world's largest annual sporting event will once again be passing through the region. Seven years after it last welcomed a stage of Le Tour, Limoges will host a stage finish as well as a stage departure the following day. Expect traffic disruption in the region's capital, therefore, on Tuesday 5th July when the peloton arrives in Limoges following the longest stage of next year's race from Saumur. “The welcome is always warm in Limoges,” said race director Christian Prudhomme after the route was unveiled. “It's a city and a region with real
