SGA member steps down after impeachment charges

By Courtney Schultz Editor In Chief

Campbell’s Student Government Association broke a 20-year record March 14 when they impeached Sophomore Class President Mat-

thew Williams. Executive Vice President Nolan Perry said such an occurrence is very rare. In his experience in Congress, he has never seen these proceedings. Perry has served on the SGA for multiple years.

“We’ve had people who have been removed from office, but it was more of a voluntary removal under advice of administration,” Perry said. “However, administration has not stepped-in in this case. This is the first instance

The debate surrounding the need to strengthen gun laws continues. A new study conducted by the Pew Research Center reveals almost half of America’s gun-owners purportedly buy the weapon as a source of protection. When this same survey was conducted in Aug. 1999, it revealed that firearms were Johnson purchased primarily for the purpose of hunting. Although more than half of Americans support stricter gun laws today, 58% of the nation fears that stricter laws may prevent them owning a gun--and defending their homes. Until almost 20 years ago, Dr. Ed Johnson, a Campbell University communication studies professor, believed the main use for guns was to hunt and to kill varmints. “I grew up on a farm and was around guns,” Johnson said. “I didn’t think much of it until I was at Central Missouri University and one of the professors was shot and killed by a student.” The event motivated Johnson to study self-defense and become a certified pistol and concealed carry handgun instructor.
